the only bad part of this movie was the very ending..................................................................i mean the credits.
cause i would have easily watched for 12 hours straight if it was 12 hours
Tiger death.
Bachte hole karte habe.
aucun besoin de rajouter un commentaire le film se suffit à lui même le jeux des acteurs est a son apogée que dire de la musique si se n est qu elle est en parfait accord
Everything about this movie was almost pure perfection. I remember when I first watched this at 10yrs old and not being able to hold back tears when Maximus starts having flashes of heaven before he dies. And what a beautiful choice of a song to go along with the re-acquaintance of his family in heaven.
I saw this in theaters for my 18th birthday. It blew me away, the story, the acting, the fight sequences. And yeah bro I cried like a little girl when he goes to his family 😂. One of the best movies ever made!
Except for the crappy jump cuts during action scenes. Other than that its pretty good.
I feel so fucking old ….
Other than that a thumbs up meant kill and Thumb down meant let live back then..
Not "Heaven", but the Elysian Fields...The afterlife prepared for heroes.
Maximus is able to control his rage when Commodus tries mock the death of his family.
Being in control and waiting for the proper time to exact revenge makes Maximus a boss.
Thinking beyond the moment moves the centre of power - the future becomes dangerous ground for the antagonist.
Shows how much stronger he is, physically and mentally/emotionally then Commodus. Commodus is visibly upset when he realizes Maximus is a better man
The real Marcus Aurelius would have love it
He got very high emotional intelligence. ☺️
No matter in which condition they are- whether physically or mentally tortured, they always act like champions.
This was the golden age of movies.. just a master piece and incredible work put into a film
Yeah, when you actually had to write a script and not keep making remakes or superhero movies
Agreed
@Reicher Reinhardt Von kesselring ؤؤ
Yeah I love this movie. Definite must own on Blu Ray.
Well...all due respect, it wasn't the "Golden Age" of movies...that would have been, arguably the 40's & 50's when actors, actually had to act. They didn't have the computer enhancements, explosives and blood/gore to captivate the crowds of the theater. They kept you captivated by their dialog, facial expressions and interactions with the other actors.
With that said...this IS one of my favorites of the modern age...80's and up. Well written, scripted, directed and produced.👍
When I was a kid I was blown away by this movie and the “strength and honor” scenes always stuck with me, one of the best movies of this era.
💯💯💯 same here man!!
@@MiadNaghibi Russell Crowe (Gladiator) and Robert Downey (Iron Man) had a lot in Common….even after Endgame.

@Nowel Bobke One, no, the BEST of all time for me. I re-watch once EVERY year.
“Don’t pity me, Praetorians...this is the man you serve...I pity you”

I'll confirm that!!
Likewise Rondarius Decimus!
notice the way that Joaquin Phoenix’s face goes pale after realizing who the Gladiator is. That ghostly white is an awesome detail for this movie, given what the continued survival of Maximus means for him
I've always noticed that. That's why HE should've got an Oscar...for doing that on command. Brilliant movie.
Yeah he hesitated to give his thumps up because he knews it would mean thumps down for his own survival.
Joaquin phoenix is an awesome actor very talented
These were times when actors could act.
Joaquin Phoenix is a more talented actor than Russell Crowe. And that's saying a lot because Crowe can effortlessly command the screen. Little nuances like the intensity of his gaze and (although this video doesn't show the best depiction of it, which happens after Commodus dies) his ability to look like he's genuinely seeing into the afterlife with a subtle smile before his eyes refocus and he snaps back to reality demonstrates his less is more approach to acting. Minimal effort. Maximum impact. Being even better than him is no small feat.
However, compare Phoenix here and especially in Joker and you can see that he has a presence, charisma and emotional range that Crowe simply can't match. Phoenix is the ONLY Joker in the characters long and varied history who rivalled Heath Ledger in terms of performance (Mark Hamill only does the voice, so he doesn't need to deliver the expressions and body language). Granted, I'm not interested in the sequel but that's because I consider the first Joker movie to be as close to perfect as a movie can get. It doesn't need a sequel and I'm worried that it might tarnish the original.
I love how the guards follow his order and sheath their swords. He is the boss.

Joaquin's acting is SO GOOD in this!!!!

@@solaris218 nope just heard this from Maximus himself...such a beauty and true to all walks of life.
@@solaris218 yeah HON got the line from this movie….
That quote comes from emperor Marcus Aurelius in real life. Gladiator movie pays homage to that man.
Thats why you have to WATCH what you do in this life. It does go down in history and effects the future.
This movie is a masterpiece! A Shakespearean-level tale
I remember years ago, in Costco. I'd purchased a DVD of Gladiator. And as it moved along the conveyor to the obviously pregnant
cashier, she picked it up, gave it a glance of disgust, and pushed it to the bagger. As she looked up at me she said, " My husband
wants to name our child Maximus" I burst out in laughter...Made my day.
One of the most satisfying kills in movie history. Especially after what he said to Maximus about how his son and wife were killed....
I was happy he got done that way oh well.
Nah commodus was the product of everyone in the film for treating him so badly he went insane Like that, Maximus was Just Giving commodus the death he wanted, In return he got to see his family again no one won anything in this movie
I was a teenager and lived with my grandmother and this was her favourite movie and since she passed I come here to watch some scenes and pretend I’m back at her place with her watching this
Whenever you watch she'll be right next to you
That's so great
Nice one / important memories that can never be replaced
Wish you all the best
You will see her again some day... but not yet
"Death smiles at us all. Sometimes all a man can do is smile back."
My Dad used to say "living is fatal. No one gets out alive".
Brrrrrr.
Sublime.
Truly a masterpiece. Rusell's performance wouldn't have been a pinnacle without an equally matched Joaquin's. You will never be bored of these scenes ever.
I like Joaquin Phoenix performance much more than Russel Crowe. I actually did not like Crowe performance all that much.

Maximus' stare at Commodus could crack ice
I think Joachim Phoenix should have won best supporting actor
He was robbed and should have won not Martin Landau
The tragedy of the protagonist role... This guy's performance was absolutely genius
True that ! Great acting from Joaquin ; Equal to RC
@@randicollier1367It was actually Benicio del Toro who won for Traffic.
Phoenix did a masterful job at playing the villain. I hated Comodus with every fiber of my being.
We're never gonna see something like this again, true and sad.

Thats bc sjw make the movies today.
Because it's unique.
Best movie ever made, no other movie ever created like the Gladiator. The man knows how to fight.
Still the best…Gladiator,Spartans 300 and Troy. They are old yet classic

Wait... what about Braveheart you guys !!?
300... meh... too cartoonish
@@ironcito1101 I have to respectfully disagree with you on that one, but I also think he’s talking and the one that came out in 1962
@@MrJamb0ree I didn't even know there was one from 1962, but I don't care much for the newer one. It's not a bad movie, but I don't find it great, either. I respect your opinion, though.
Maximus is so deadly even when he is on the doorsteps of the afterlife he still manages to kill an emperor
🤣😂
Hearing Maximus say his full name to the face of his treacherous emperor is chilling
The quote starting “My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius” is certainly my favourite from the film - the build up to it with the tension and the music is outstanding, a quality of course that applies to the whole film. Ridley Scott showed that outstanding sword and sandal epics can still be made and the film thoroughly deserved its Oscars. Like other comments have said, Joaquin Phoenix deserved an Oscar for his performance as the evil Emperor Commudus and it was a shame he did not get one. However, he finally got one years later for his performance in The Joker. But it was his performance in Gladiator that firmly established him as a very talented actor.
I watched this movie numerous times. The integrity of a man is the gift he gives himself
Thank you for all the love and support, dedicated fans like you are the reason I have attained this greatness you're highly appreciated.where in the world are you watching from?
The Leadership depicted in this movie was inspiring. Makes one yearn for such greatness.
Jesus said (and I'm paraphrasing), "Whoever wants to be great must be a servant." Marcus and Maximus had servant hearts, seeking the good of the people; Commodus wanted only glory for himself.
@@RobinPM86 they led by following. Anyone can be a great leader, but it’s the simple things that end up being the hardest.
Do what you say you’re going to do
Be humble and a servant to others
Speak the truth and do the right thing even when it’s not easy, and even when everyone else is doing the opposite.
Лидерство? В чем величие ? Ты веришь в бога?
I love this movie! It still gives me chills! Did you notice he didn't give orders? "Have any of you been in the Army?" "You can help me." These guys were all super Alpha macho males and they fell in right with him. Amazing! I put this film right up there with the original 1958 Ben-Hur!
Thank you for all the love and support dedicated fans like you are the reason I have attained this greatness you are highly appreciated
You realize what real leadership is.
Maximus technically did give orders like "single column!" but he balanced it out with praise and encouragement like "well done!" in addition to throwing himself at Hagen to push him out of the way of the chariot. He leads by example and never asks anybody to do something that he won't do himself.
True leadership has, for the most part, been forgotten in the modern day. That's why it's important to see genuine displays of it that will inspire people to step up.
@@russellcrowe7768You're most welcome Russell; this was such an Epic movie; well crafted and expertly implemented. A true classic that will never age; and definitely something to be extremely proud of!

What a movie! Hats of to the makers, actors & people involved in making this movie. A TRUE MASTER PIECE!
*4:42** - "You simply don't... die."*
A line that would be perfect if Phoenix's Joker spoke to Batman.
"My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next" I'm love this movie a lots, it always going to be in my heart great movie all time!!
My favorite line in this movie,…..”I will see you again…..but not yet………not yet.”
I quote it often. I say it to my Mom and Dad, who have gone on before me……….
By the way, the reason you love this movie is because Joaquin Phoenix is such a good actor and plays such a convincing villain that he actually makes you hate him. The story and script and other actors are all good, but Joaquin is what makes this movie memorable.
Read a while back on a history site there actually was a real Commodus, just as hateful & crazed as the character. I've watched this many times yet still hold my breath when the reveal scene comes on. Phoenix & Crowe were the absolute best.
In your opinion.. but I like Russell Crowe and plenty of the other characters as well
I remembered crying like a baby with this movie
The best of Russell Crowe role..🔥
He is a A level actor since he is in Romper Stromper movie
Just so moving. I could feel how he was feeling for his family. Bravo!!!
Hello
I love how the crowd stops cheering at 9:35 as they realize the Emperor is about to die.
😏
Joaquin Phoenix. What a legend! Brilliant acting. In joker as well.
you can tell quintus was ashamed of the emperor he served. you can also tell that the praetorians were also pretty disgusted.
The real Praetorians were worse than the emperors
@@Cabbage-Enjoyer how?
@@Batgod211 they took bribes and murdered anyone who doesnt bend down to their requests and replaces them with subservient people instead even seeling the throne of Roman emperor to the highest bidder one time
@@Batgod211 The Praetorians were pretty much soulless monsters with no conscience and with a serious thirst for violence. They lived for only two things, war and killing. And they definitelly were worse, way worse, than some of the emperors. The roman empire actually hade some skilled and fairly decent emperors inbetween all the psychopaths.
Bravery, adeptness, loyalty, love, agony, loss, vengeance, sadness - all characteristics / feelings of Maximus are effectively portrayed by Russell Crowe. Commendable acting!
Joaquin Phoenix's performance is equally praiseworthy!
I always liked how at the end Hagen walks with a limp after being shot in the leg with an arrow. That's a detail that could have been easily been forgotten by the actor, filmmakers, and the audience.
Gladiator's Soundtrack was so good, Hanz Zimmer kinda revised it and use it for Pirates of the Caribbean
Joaquin as well as Crowe were just absolutely incredible
What a fascinating epic feat. I doubt Hollywood is ever going to make a film of this grandeur again...
This is probably the best movie ever made
Maximus still gave Quintus the Strength and Honor salute! What a badass.
