@@TheOffenderBlog Old microwaves might still be a problem, or if they have faulty shielding, but in general, it's pretty safe. Maybe don't linger in front of it just in case of the faulty shielding on the microwave. They're still far less sensitive to it than they were a few decades ago.
ALRIGHT I CAN FINALLY USE MY TTRPG KNOWLEDGE! 1-Microwaves and Water. So the one main thing that really separates cyberpunk from our world, ignoring the psychics and nanomachine superheroes running around in the background(I'll circle back to that later), its that materials science is massively more advance in the CYPK world. Taking a look at the Dragoon, which is a top of the line fullborg(brain in a jar) conversion, it weighs 620 pounds, and can lift 800 kilos, or in other words, it can lift more than three times its own weight. You just can't do that with materials that actually exist, meaning the materials that megacorps have access to, far surpass our modern-day materials. This just means you can probably pay 10 times as much to get your gear proofed against water and low grade shocks. 2-What was that about superheroes? So since Cyberpunk was made in the 80s, the idea of psychic and super scientific abilities were seen as a genuine possibility. Meaning you do have the rules for psychic player characters, and then theres pazerfaust, the cyborg martial art that lets you deal more damage via vibrations and somehow allows you shatter a tank in a single kick. 3-Where was I going with this again? Oh right, the implants. To wrap up this nonsense, the wireless update thing is actually why quickhacks work. Netrunners on the table top used to only be data gatherers instead of techo-wizards casting spells at people to set them on fire, but due to everything having a wireless hook up in '77, Runners are a heck more dangerous.
@@TheOffenderBlog also for those unable to afford the proofing against water and other forms of damage, it is another chance for the corps to drain more money from people via “””treatments””” to help deal with the symptoms while barely keeping the equipment functional, because It’s the dark future baby and the only thing people want is money.
please keep in mind that this IS in 2077. Technology has advanced by incredible amounts. Water proof cyberware is not hard to believe. Hell, I WASHED and DRIED by headphones (charger case and all) and it still works. also, pretty sure ive seen a few microwaves. I can understand people not seeing them, as we dont exactly need to look for them. also, yes, people do need to get regular maintenance on their cyberware. Cyberware does degrade over time and sometimes malfunction. In the book, Aya's hand is malfunctioning. Some parts, like the heart, needs to be paid attention to because it can kill you if a heart or even a lung augment goes bad. thank you for coming to my tedtalk.
Basically due to the US and Europe being at each others throats war was far more profitable, and constant economic crashes allowed for certain companies to grab power resulting in a ridiculous amount of money going into research that started with prosthetics after the major wars in Central America (iirc). Basically, mega corporations pumped tons of money into material technology and human augmentation, Arasaka in particular did so because Saburo wanted to extend his life (he’s a ww2 Vet). Long story short, world is different, and they were behind in some ways in 2020 while also being leagues ahead in others which isn’t unfeasible. 2077 is them being way further ahead. A lot of alt histories and even speculation of the growth and develops of technology and civilization of our own and alien species deal in stuff like this, and it’s also speculative fiction, so there will be inconsistencies or changes because we’ve lived to the period the original game was set in and seen how things turned out
There are in lore explanations for all of these, mostly just the fact that this is a fictional super advanced future, especially just the issue with water. You gorilla arms are only active and exposed when being used, like being ready for combat or tearing open doors. This includes the electric aspect your arms have. This applies to all outside bionics and is also why you can't use most gear while submerged in water. Microwaves are actually pretty plentiful and can be hacked to burst into a sonic shock, stunning anyone nearby. We're talking about a future where most everyone has partial augments to allow basic connections and services. The advanced cyberware of this era includes protection against low shocks, which is why an emp or blackout doesn't knockout or kill anyone. High frequencies however, like a sonic shock, can bypass and overwhelm cybernetics.
As a scientist I have to just let myself suspend my disbelief with this game and let go of the many impossible and contradictory realities this game presents.
Well clearly implants aren't entirely safe because you can literally control people to kill themselves with quickhacks, or you can just short circuit them, light them on fire, and even reboot their eyes. However I do think there are references made to needing antivirus stuff and at the start of the game V even catches a neurovirus which is why you go to the ripperdoc. As for if implants can get wet, maybe they just use some waterproof material? Also I think some kinda tech allows people and ripperdocs to check your internals without the necessity of an MRI so I guess that works somehow. At the end of the day it is just a sci-fi typa thing where stuff just kinda works if it has to Edit: I'm not super big into the lore by the way, just kinda stuff I would assume from playing the game and going off what I think I hear/see
The...pacemaker = no microwaves is like WAAAAAY out of date. Like...half a century.
Is it?

Fair enough. I just remember it being a plot point a lot on TV when I was a child. Doesn't come up very much these days

most hacks you have confirm it aint that safe

Fair enough. That is pretty much what most pop science fiction requires
I mean… don’t you have to suspend disbelief with most video games? Or pretty much any cyberpunk, sci-fi, etc.
