So basically Rin likes winning. Not just winning but proving he is better than other people. It's why his destroyer states bring out the best of his opponents and then destroys it. Winning a game is just the by-product of Rin's Ego. Rin doesn't really care about winning a game Rin only really cares about proving he is better then everyone on the field. And how he does that is by beating someone at their own 'game' (Skills). That is a sick ego no wonder Aiku was grossed out by it. It's an ego that abandons the game and seeks only to satisfy itself. And unless you have a team okay with being used for the sake of showing the world how great you are it's not a ego that can be useful.
When ego types were first introduced I was kinda confused on what rins was but after watching its a lot more simple than I thought lol. great video suzels keep it up :)
Hey thanks so much! In all fairness I think Rin is probably the most complicated case in the manga because he's always been conflicted between measuring himself in relation to others and his true ego (even now in PXG, imo)
Love to hear that! And absolutely, I was worried about getting bored doing this at some point but I genuinely discover new things about Blue Lock every time I make a video
Kaiser's luck goal is making this video, especially your point about the 2 characters sharing parallels as being isagi's new big rival in the upcoming parts of the story, age VERY well. good shit
I got the opposite impression, that in the PXG match, Rin was still playing to a world type and Kaiser is playing to a self type. Rin is only trying to crush isagi because of the words Sae imposed on Rin in the U20, Rin wants to crush isagis position as a striker, not play for his own value which in his destroyer mode is to bring out the best in the opponent and still beat them, which if he can do that he can be the best in the world. Kaiser being a part of the system and thriving in it. Wants to send isagi in despair because he doesn't want to see isagi threaten him in the system. At the start of the NEL kaisers goal was to leave. But after isagi beat him in Ubers he told ness he's good for nothing if he can't beat isagi. So now his aim is to crush isagi, not in a systematic way but with a personal vendetta. He stopped playing like he did initially and he looks like isagi at the start of the NEL stealing plays to just even take a shot. Rin and Kaiser meet in the middle because they're playing opposite to how they would
Completely agreed re:Kaiser, he got so obsessed with an in-between step that by now, he lost sight of what will actually satiate his desires. Regarding Rin, I don't quite see either 'beating Isagi' or 'showing dominance by destroying your opponents at their best' as world-type desires. I think the contrast with Isagi speaks volumes: Isagi wants to beat Rin because that would bring his closer to his goal of being the world's best, whereas Rin has become fixated on the act of destroying itself rather than what he hopes to achieve from that.
@@suzelsmanga Rin has backpedaled as a character a bit. At the end of the U20 he said he wanted to explore his ego. But then immediately goes to say he's going to destroy isagi the next time we see him. While in destroyer he let all of that go. After the match he picked it back up. Rins first shot in the PXG vs BM match, he immediately is trying to dunk on isagi and tells him that this is the vip spot for my goal as the number 1 striker. He's still trying to play sociality, not in his own way. Rins ego was to destroy hideously which was use your opponents greatest weapon and beat them at it. We see in in the lil snippet of the PXG manshine match where he beats Nagi on the trap. We haven't seen that self type ego in the match with Isagi yet.
@@mattarium9408 Completely agreed on the backpedaling, I was actually quite struck by that myself after his scene post-U20. I do get the sense that his playstyle has changed compared to the start of the U20 match though. There are two examples of Rin destroying his opponents at their best: one is him drawing in Isagi by manipulating his spatial awareness and then lifting him up, that was markedly more brutal than how he outwitted Isagi in the second selection. Secondly he destroyed the Kaiser Impact by swiping away the ball right under Kaiser's nose - that one is arguably more 'beautiful destruction' though.
@@suzelsmanga those are good examples, but we didn't see the aura or the eyes when he played like that. He could be in destroyer right now but I am not sure that he is there just yet. When he took the shot against isagi he missed because he didn't account for hiori, which isn't something that Rin normally wouldn't miss, i believe.
What a great analysis, when the Ego types were introduced I immediately deducted that Kaiser being a world type is the only reasonable choice, but I was at a miss with what Rin could be, but him being a self type, through his flow state, has a lot of interesting implications along side with how, both teams have a duo of Self- and World-Type Strikers who aggressively do not get along with one another. I am still not extremely sure what Ego Type Isagi truly is, but given how Yukimiya stated that he and Kaiser are made from the same cut of "cloth", I'd be inclined to agree. Great cooking again
Thanks so much! For what it's worth, Isagi explicitly calls himself a world type in ch 254, the whole realisation was sparked when he compared himself to Shidou, and I've at least always taken that at face value
@@suzelsmanga I am not so sure, the way the TL worded it was in the pursuit of how to pleasure your world type. Because back in chapter 183, when Isagi first and foremost achieved Meta Vision, to me that looked very much like a Self-Type initially. However I can see definitely some World Type tendencies with him as well, Isagi's monologues and type of play involves taking into consideration things beyond himself so I am genuinely not sure
video suggestion :predictions for the rest of pxg vs bm like who will win, whos gon score the goal, who will affect the storyline and how, lastly their rankings. i really like the way you narrate the video.
Hey man great video! Ill be honest i didnt really get the relevance of ego types very well up till now. But i think there is another reason why Kaiser and Rin fell down similar paths. Its a little bit of a stretch but hear me out. If we go all the way back to the first chapter what was it that caused Isagi such pain. It wasnt the loss i think. Rather I feel it was what Isagi in that moment perceived the world to be like. Where certain people are superior, and no matter how much you try, even if the values you follow supposedly go against that nature, it exists all the same. For the rest of this very very short rant i will refer to that perception of the world as “the absurd” even if its not one to one to the actual concept. Isagi, either because of the concept or with it leading to that perception, has very low perception of himself. He assigns little to no value to himself reffering to himself as nothing or something similar, seen in his inner monologue both with the bike scene and during egos scene. However when Kira assigns value to Isagi, his despair is resolved somewhat. And of course as blue lock continues he is able to value himself more and more and create a new system of beliefs that is better able to work against “the absurd”. Seen in the movement from the state of nature to various government systems or at least societal systems. And that i feel is where Isagi diverges from both Kaiser and Rin. Initially Rin shared a dream with Sae. But that dream was crushed when Sae was broken by the absurd. Of course Rin couldnt accept this, because that dream was everything to him. And like you said in the U20 match Rin evolved past that. However there was nothing left to fill that same spot except acting on his own urge. Which is of course destroying Isagi. On the other side is Kaiser who is also very similar to Isagi from the beginning of the series in that he has little self value. That seems insane since Kaiser appears to be a massive narcissist. But if we take the self harm combined with how fragile his ego is and how many mental breakdowns he has whenever he fails it seems to me he kind of hates himself idk. The reason,at least i think, Kaiser is so desperate to win is like Isagi from the beginning he needs some kind of validation to feel as though he has value. Whether that beingn the emperor of bayern munich or doing the impossible. Its all a little bit convenient that all this is happening in the arc where every player is given monetary and objective value, AND the Ubers match before this was all about self love AND the art with Kaiser having a dirty and messed up football hinting at a backstory where he was of lowbirth and possibly had little self worth. Thats all. Also if i catch any of yall stealing this before i make a video on it i will kaiser impact down your door.
I feel like ever since we met Rin he’s been trying to live up to world type ideals originally learned from his brother but like in the U-20 when he reverts back to his most original form of who he realizes he dosen’t really care about being the worlds best or being the best in Japan but more soo what he first said to Isagi bachira and Nagi in the 3v3. The field is a battlefield and he just wants to destroy all his enemies at the end of the day originally just being Sae but now I see it as Sae,Isagi,Kaiser and Shidou
I was looking for this type of content for Blue Lock and I'm so glad I've found your channel. I dunno if you ever think about that but there are actual athletes trying to gain an edge over the competition. That will include different mindsets, perspectives and philosophies which can be derived from all sorts of media, of course including blue lock The point is that there are athletes that watch you to get better. Or at least one, that one being me. Love them vids ^^
Oh wow, that's really cool to hear! I honestly always assumed that folks looking to incorporate teachings from Blue Lock into their life would be more inclined to watch creators like Lessons from Anime or DrUpauli rather than myself. I'm not particularly athletically inclined so I've never really considered real-life applicability as a potential draw for my videos tbh, so thanks for sharing 😊
We can see that you cant play with 2 player with the same ego on the pitch like rin and shidou both self ego type and isagi and kaiser both world ego type
Love the analysis as always! With the release of the Episode Nagi Movie, Kaneshiro and Nomura put out a bonus, one chapter oneshot for an "Episode Rin". It takes place just after the infamous confrontation between Rin and Sae. The chapter is yet to be properly scanlated and translated into English, but it really serves to emphasize the point you brought up in regards to him. Rin is single-minded in his quest to defeat his "rivals", to the point where he doesn't take notice of the world around him - something that almost gets him killed or seriously injured in the oneshot. I look forward to you being able to check it out once it becomes more available. On another note, I'm deeply disappointed in the Blue Lock community's mentality in regards to Kaiser... With his loss in the last chapter, people keep saying that he's done for and that his performance is a disappointment for someone of the NG11 caliber. It makes me wonder if they had their eyes closed during the awakenings of Barou, Rin, Bachira and for examples from this arc, Yukimiya and Hiori. I should be happy that Kaneshiro is fooling people so successfully, but I can't help but be bothered by it. lol I'd love to give an in-depth breakdown on how well the conclusion of the PXG match has been set up and how it'll perfectly lead into the U-20 WC, but I think I'll save it for the next video.
Hey thanks so much! I actually hadn't heard about the Episode Rin chapter, I'll make sure to check it out once it gets translated. Main reason I don't tune in too closely for the chapter to chapter discourse haha, the most fun part for me is realising all the things we missed from the chapters in retrospect. 259 is very interesting in light of Kaiser's overall arc, so I'm sure I'll talk about that soon enough.
