I watched this again this evening for some encouragement . I’ve been struggling with a bit of depression and anxiety. It’s been hard. Life has served me some difficult things through time, but I decided to praise God this evening just because He deserves to be praised. This video is a reminder that His grace is a mighty blessing. Thank you.
I feel it & I See it in your eyes Mr. Clifton God Bless You I Believe you're on to the most beautiful thing. I know you don't need a banjo but Thank you For The Music we all Love
Loved the video, my brother in Christ. We've watched your videos for years. I played the banjo myself but I've had a couple of strokes. I haven't been able to play for a couple of years but I took up the mandolin because I can hold a guitar pick. I truly am a blessed man. God has brought me a long way from what I was a couple of years ago. I'm still getting better, brother, but everything in God's time. I've been blessed by this wonderful video. God has answered our prayers, my wife and I have been praying on and off for you over the last few years. You may wonder why, we don't know, we just felt led to pray for you. Blessings in Jesus Christ, my brother. We will now know each other forever. Shawn and Christy
Boy oh boy, I LOVE that, brother. That’s the kind of songs I especially love because it is about how God saved a sinner like me. God makes us new creations when He does that, and we owe it completely to the work of Jesus Christ. I have never done anything to deserve His sacrifice for me, and I’ve done so much to deserve punishment. Thanks be entirely to God, He chose to have mercy on me by allowing me to see Jesus and be saved. You know, you and I will probably never meet in this lifetime, but I believe we will be singing Gods praises together by and by my brother. God bless you, and have a wonderful week Clifton. I’ve been praying for you just as I promised.
Nearlè 48h hours without sleep because of terrible neuropathic pain, I was at the deep bottom. You can't imagine how much you restaure my faith. May God bless you Clifton.
A great song for Eastern Orthodox Christmas Eve! Thank you Clifton! Would love more like this! Love the talk at the end!!!!!!! “It’ll come to you one day” Now you can play “Rock In A Weary Land” while *knowing* the truth behind it! ❤️🔥🎄☦️
Wait, is Hicks Orthodox? That would be crazy, I have been watching him for a couple years now and it would totally make my day if it turned out that he also found the Eastern church convincing. It really does seem to be picking up steam on the US these days. Probably for the same reason it appeals to me, all the other churches hurried way too much to update and modernize and turned a lot of people off. I don't want a modern church, that's the last thing I want.
@@justforever96 I was talking to someone else about this. Clif posted pictures of his Orthodox baptism (back in 2009) but I don't think he's currently practicing Orthodoxy. As a Catholic I have a ton of respect for the Orthodox church. Y'all have done a *way* better job of staying traditional than most churches. Traditional Catholicism is dying but we're still out there!

My brother Clif! Thanks for all your music, but especially for the songs about Ruby Ridge and Kyle Rittenhouse. I knew you were someone that can recognize evil when you see it. Praise and Glory and Honor to God!
I think because “Ruby Ridge” was composed by Peter Rowan that I may not be able to publish on streaming services. I will look into that. Thank you for reminding me.

I think you're right about that. It was certainly the case with me. Raised to be atheist by my 1.5 parents who latched onto every new age "movement" that came along, all the while ignoring the basics; scoffing at the vast spiritual heritage of our ancestors. It was all right here waiting for either of them, or me, to just pick it up. My mother killed herself in 2012, and my father and sisters rejected me around 2020 when I stopped agreeing with their disgusting political fanaticism. Truly tragic. But from that tragedy I finally gained the ability to look at this world through my own lens; through the eyes of my ancestors.
Yes, I think so. It hasn't come all at once by any means, but I received a huge dose during spring planting season last year, right before my 39th birthday in March. Since then my life has been a rollercoaster, but so far the trajectory keeps climbing. I didn't ask for it, seek it, or even desire it. And I'll also allow that I did not _deserve_ it.
Yes, sir! I’ve never been able to drive or even walk down the road without bursting into song a hundred times. Even when I was lost and aimless, “wandering in the desert” these 39 years.
Ya know Clifton. I'm not much older than you and I've wrestled with my faith over the years. Hard times in life can shake your faith for sure. I take my four daughters to a small Baptist church in Ohio, and they love to sing up front. Everyone that goes there is either from Kentucky, W. Virginia, or Tennessee like my family is. They love the banjo, and know that I play. I don't play in church even though they always ask me to, but since you've been posting some good old spirituals lately I think I might. I've gotten Oil in my vessel, and Prodigal Son down(I play it my way, but the tab gave me a good foundation) I just need to memorize the lyrics better first. Thanks Clifton and God bless.
There are so many good religious songs that seem to pair flawlessly with the old-time banjo. Yesterday my congregation sang "Nothing But the Blood of Jesus," which I hadn't heard or sung since I left the Baptist faith in the 1990s (which would've been around the time I began playing music). It brought back a flood of musical memories. Our preacher also gave a pretty intense sermon (which I sat through twice) about knowing whether or not one's name is "written in the Book of Life." That made me think of this song while driving down the highway this morning; a song which I used to sing every day in Iraq, at the top of my lungs from the gun hatch of an armored HMMWV. It was a great thrill for me to sing it on the road again.
That was in Palamartsa, Bulgaria, in 2009. I had to be baptized in the Orthodox church there because a family there requested that I be their newborn's godfather. That family fell apart a few years later, in a pretty terrible way. I was an alcoholic drug abuser at the time myself, and I lost contact with both the parents and my godchild. I am so ignorant of Orthodox Christianity that I just now learned the definition of Chrismation. I'm ashamed of these truths, but they are the truth. EDIT: I did recently find one of the child's parents and am attempting to make contact with them. I hadn't thought about any of this in years.
I feel it!!!! I wasn’t expecting that! Tears in my eyes! Wow! Praise God! I’ve always respected you and now I respect you even more! Thank you for sharing this.
Such a lovely song and lovely singing! I would love to hear you sing Warfare. I'm not sure who was the original writer of the song I do like the Ginny hawker and Uncle Tupelo versions and I think i saw murphy campbell do a wonderful cover But the version i'm most familiar with is willi carlisle. I would love to hear what you would do with that tune! Just wanted to say thank you for your service Mr.Hicks! you are a true American hero sir.
Thanks for writing, Mandi. I'm not familiar with that song, and will have to look it up. I was a pretty average soldier, and I don't think I did much valuable service to anyone during my brief military career. I think the real heroes were my friends who never came back, and the valiant men whom we killed for daring to defend their land against us.
@CliftonHicksbanjo this is what I mean sir you are such a humble down to earth person it is so easy to admire you! Nonetheless I come from a long line of folks who served in the military. I was just a kid but my father served in Operation desert Storm, I have the utmost respect for anyone who is willing to defend this proud country and I support the men and women in service. I don't mean to get all gushy and write an essay but the more I learn about you the more impressed I get! You are a true good old boy and I don't care what any hater on Reddit says
Thank you, Mandi. Like you, I come from a long line of soldiers and sailors--and a few preachers! I remember when the local Guard unit returned to Savannah, Georgia, from Desert Storm. That was the first and last military victory parade I ever saw.
Amen. The best time to have this realization is this side of the grave. And if you ever have a time without this zeal just hold on and trust that it’ll come back. When I see people get excited about God it helps rekindle my zeal if it’s gone down to just coals
WOW. I'm crying as I watch this for the second time. I don't know how long you've been saved, but welcome to the kingdom, brother!!! I have followed your channel for a while, and I distinctly remember praying for you when my dad and I were watching your videos in 2021. This is so glorious. What a praise. What a testimony. I am a pastor in Portland, Maine, and my wife and I have often been encouraged by your music throughout the years, especially when things got hard and we needed some fresh music. My little boy LOVES your version of Soldier's Joy. I was saved at 29, so this breaks me down and resonates deeply. May all hearts be melted in love for Jesus. Enjoy the Lord, brother! Enjoy the Lord.
Sometime in the 1990s, in the Wellswood Baptist Church in Tampa, Florida, I recited some words in front of the congregation that went something like, "I accept Jesus Christ as my personal lord and savior." According to the preacher, I was at that time "saved." But to be honest, I didn't know what I was doing, and I didn't change anything about my life. I think I was 12 or 13. A few years later I found myself stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky, going through army basic training. Because the war had just started in Iraq, and our drill sergeants knew that some of us would be killed, they loaded my platoon onto a 5-ton truck and drove us to a Baptist church to get baptized and saved. I was "saved" again, but declined baptism. I watched several of my fellow recruits climb into a glass tank of water and get fully submerged by the preacher; and I thought it was a little strange. In 2007 I spoke about my wartime experience during the Irak Konferenz at Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany. After I spoke, an Islamic preacher (called an imam) took an interest in saving my soul. He followed me around Berlin during a night of alcohol drinking, making my friends quite uncomfortable! At one point, he asked me if I had killed Muslims in Iraq. I told him that I couldn't say for certain, but that I probably did directly kill one Muslim man, and that I had been involved in the deaths of several others. He told me this was a serious problem, and that I would go to Hell unless I converted to Islam. When I told him that I couldn't, because I didn't believe in God anymore, he responded along these lines: "One day you will find yourself in a dungeon with no exits. On that day, you will give up all hope. And when you do, God will make an opening in the ceiling, and lower a rope. All you have to do is reach up and take the rope." That moment happened to me last spring during planting season in my garden.

Thank you brother for sharing that beautiful woman's voice with me. Thank you thank you thank you. I reminds me of walking past the Black churches in Savannah in the 1980s. Fills me with the Holy Spirit.
Not a drop of alcohol since last summer, and I think I have finally beat it this time. One month without smokin. It’s a positive change in the body & mind.
God is good, and as they say in Iraq, God is also the _best_ _planner._ I didn't seek it, didn't ask for it, didn't deserve it, and wasn't even interested in it. Yet, like so much in this life, it happened.
@@CliftonHicksbanjo IMHO Gods greatest gift to us is an incomprehensible Universe that we can attempt to comprehend. We are truly blessed. I also believe in Gnomes. Like Rip Van Winkel. That song you sang brought back a lot of good memories. God Bless you, and all of yours.
Not hard to find the Holy Spirit in the old timey tunes...started my Christian walk 25 yrs ago through the living word that I heard coming through the Oh Brother Soundtrack!
Isn't it something that they managed to sneak some real, honest to God spiritual music into a hit Hollywood movie?! It blows my mind to this day! I know hundreds of people who found traditional music thanks to that movie. How many found God as well?
Alter! Wie siehst du denn aus??! *Hallejuja* Musste so lachen ... the song's is just f*g großartig. Like ever. Did i mentioned it: Thou makes me like the banjo soooo much. // wise words, 11 miles ahead.

Last year, around early June (our planting season). I have watched many seeds sprout in my garden over the years, but I noticed something last spring that I had never noticed before, in the new green shoots of my vegetable garden, and the fresh buds of my fruit trees. I can't explain it. I kept quiet about it for weeks. I have _never_ believed in God, and never been _able_ to believe. But watching those seeds come up last spring, it all came together in my mind. It was more powerful than any experience I'd had up to that point. I skipped believing and went straight to _knowing_ God. Inexplicable. Unsought and undeserved.
@@CliftonHicksbanjo that is wonderful. It reminds me of CS Lewis's testimony of going one day to the zoo in Oxford in a sidecar, his brother Warnie driving the motorbike. He says that when the left for the zoo he did not believe that Jesus was the son of God, but somehow when they arrived at the zoo, he did. Inexplicable! Yet undeniable. Our loving God reaches in and reveals the truth to our inner being. It happened to me as well. All praise to him. Thanks for sharing.
@CliftonHicksbanjo actually, it all happened on the way to the zoo and Lewis said he wasn't even really thinking about the issue of who Jesus was on the way there. Again, inexplicable.
Yes, I see, "on the way." But still, I bet he had some profound thoughts whilst _at_ the zoo! Anyhow, it was the same for me. I couldn't have cared less about religion, God, or certainly about Jesus when he hit me like a load of bricks.
Ah, you seem to have reached that point of your life where you officially look just like your father. Me too. I'm proud to look like my dad though, he was a smart guy and he knew all the old songs and sang them to us at any opportunity he got. Although really in this video you could pass as a British officer, you have the aristocratic features and the moustache and the sweater. Now you just need an upper class British accent, maybe a revolver and a disdain for physical labor, and you are there.
The revolver and “disdain for physical labor” is a family tradition. LOL! Although I do love working in my vegetable garden with a long, heavy how. I’d have to go back several generations in my paternal line to find a man who was given to physical labor; they are mostly preachers and army officer types. On my maternal line, however, the love of honest work starts immediately. My mother’s father was a migrant farm worker from birth; and although he was scarred by the Depression and 2nd World War, he died with a beautifully tended citrus orchard at his fingertips, which he’d planted himself.
The account I was referencing is attributed to Dorotheus of Tyre. He claims that "Saul, later called Paul" was present when James was thrown down from the wall of the Temple in Jerusalem for refusing to deny Jesus' divinity. The account goes on to claim that when the mob found James to still be alive (which is a miracle in itself), that an unnamed man stepped forward with a "fuller's club" and bashed his head in, killing him.
"I know every second of this trip has been planned out by the creator of this universe", earlier you said "I spend 39 years in this satans world", boy, what is it?
Yeah these trucks are a bit noisy. Still a lot quieter than my '99 Silverado V8! I need to work this out on banjo and re-record with my good equipment. Thanks for listening and writing.

According to the preacher, I was at that time "saved." But to be honest, I didn't know what I was doing, and I didn't change anything about my life.
@@CliftonHicksbanjo Man oh man. Hallelujah. Thank you for sharing. So excited for you!!!
Wonder if you'd ever consider covering "Ride On, King Jesus..." ruclips.net/video/QKl3AQf-HUk/видео.html
Thank you brother for sharing that beautiful woman's voice with me. Thank you thank you thank you. I reminds me of walking past the Black churches in Savannah in the 1980s. Fills me with the Holy Spirit.
@@CliftonHicksbanjo Amen. My pleasure.

your soul is shining brother
Not a drop of alcohol since last summer, and I think I have finally beat it this time. One month without smokin. It’s a positive change in the body & mind.
The Triune is always with us!
Praise the Lord
Beautiful
Thanks!
Beautiful testimony! God is good.
God is good, and as they say in Iraq, God is also the _best_ _planner._ I didn't seek it, didn't ask for it, didn't deserve it, and wasn't even interested in it. Yet, like so much in this life, it happened.
Yes man ❤ great to hear ya Clifton
“The first gulp from the glass of natural sciences will turn you into an atheist, but at the bottom of the glass God is waiting for you.”
That’s the truth. There is no feasible explanation behind this incomprehensible world other than intelligent and perfect design.
Halleluiah!
Sounding good buddy!
You said it, Señor Hicks.
Praise God.
Excellent 🤙🏼 🤙🏼 🤙🏼

If I ever needed a theme sing I would have you write and perform it!

Wow Clifton...the lord has put a new song in your mouth .....
Nice to see you smiling brother
Lord I just pray the world will be filled with men like you. This world full of men in beards and dresses has me real tired
A refreshing rest bite from all the blasphemy and profanity we hear on the radio.
Good by me! I feel it👍
Yes! And a welcome respite from all the blasphemy and profanity yall have suffered from Clifton Hicks these long years. Hallelujah!
Isn't that an old military sweater? Been wanting to buy one.
Uh ok, we got a level 5 Based Alert over here
Where ya headed banjo man?
HOME! 🏡
Alter! Wie siehst du denn aus??! *Hallejuja* Musste so lachen ... the song's is just f*g großartig. Like ever. Did i mentioned it: Thou makes me like the banjo soooo much. // wise words, 11 miles ahead.
New life breathed into one’s lungs has a positive effect. Danke schön, Matthias.
How old are you now?
How long have you been playing the banjo?
When I play mine ...bout half the time it sounds like a Chinese guitar 😂😅 ... love to watch your vids
I’ll be 40 this coming March 14th. I started playing the banjo when I was 13.

He's turning into Ned Flanders!
Spent 51 years lost, but thanks the love of Jesus, I am no longer!
Can you share how God broke into your life? And when.
Interesting that God used the animal kingdom to reveal His Kingdom to Lewis that day.
Looked into James the Just, thanks. Jesus beats Paul.
Honestly it really didn’t hit me until you talking in the end
I'll angle for your soul with any bait that'll get you to bite! THINK ABOUT IT. 🙏🏻
"I know every second of this trip has been planned out by the creator of this universe", earlier you said "I spend 39 years in this satans world", boy, what is it?
This gives me much hope. ❤
Gorgeous! I can’t hear the low notes over the car though. You might wanna record in silence for lower pitched songs
Yeah these trucks are a bit noisy. Still a lot quieter than my '99 Silverado V8! I need to work this out on banjo and re-record with my good equipment. Thanks for listening and writing.
Amen!
