The first song 'Looking forward to three years' illustrates patience at being separated for 3 years, while the second song 'Three Years' shows exasperation with 3-year separation.
Tn the first song 'Looking forward to three years', the persona is willing to wait - this reveals the value he places on what he's waiting for. Is it that being 'slow and steady wins the race'?
In the second song 'Three Years', the persona thinks it's hard to understand, or even downright unreasonable. Or,that it may a bad decision that drives him crazy. But losing his patience with her will be of no benefit, and it may make matters worse. There's a saying, 'Fools rush in where angels fear to tread'!

In Ihe song, 'Looking Forward to Three Years', it appears that that the persona and his love will be separated for three years; despite the fact it will be more miserable and painful on meeting up again.
However, tarrying one more day before taking leave of each other may do them a world of good; it allows them to relish more time together.
In the second song 'Three Years', the lyricist likens idea of a three-year separation to be a huge atmosphoric cube that hems them in and prevents them from doing what they want to do. In utter frustration, he questions the wisdom of allowing this intervening cube to control their lives.
Both songs dwell on separation, imposed on the couple most probably by necessity such as relocating because of a job.
The persona in the second song is more vocal to shake things up a bit- he asks her to just give up the idea behind their separation.
