Have fun and be creative. 👇
I don’t always love your artistic choices but I love watching you make them. These are exactly the kind of videos that brought me to your channel, then to your school, and that will keep me watching your channel.
Just popped in to say how nice it is to see you again Ben. I've missed listening to you ponder all things creative as I toddle on throughout my day. Good health to you sir
#namethattool Foldable stand looks like a clothes peg when collapsed... how about "Crimson Ben-chpeg Stand'" or if you want something more in keeping with the video... The Crimson Guitars Verbose-Peg Stand
Couldn't you have just painted the Gold Size on something like a jam jar or jam jar lid? Or any small bottle or lid really. Glass or plastic would be fine as they are basically non-porous. Polyethylene may be best as not a lot of glues bond with it. I would think that either would serve as a transfer medium of the Size to the wood of the guitar. Easier to hold too. Perhaps even just dip and stamp - especially since you were expecting non-perfect results with the gold leaf. Oh - and that guitar will be shedding gold leaf from the interior for the next few decades. Should call her Tinkerbell.
Couldn’t you use some rubber O-rings from the hardware store and glue them to blocks of wood to get stamps? Do you often develop ideas using what you have on hand? My brainstorming process largely requires me to go on multiple shopping trips to search for the parts I need and ideas can rarely be tested immediately after they come to mind. They often fail and I’m left wishing I hadn’t left the shop or spent the money.
Ben, please explain your reasoning behind the unusual neck attachment where the neck radius ends with a skinny tenon. I'd like to know why you chose to do that and if it works.
Hmmm. I was thinking about names like "Elvis," or "Leo," (as in Fender) or, "Les," (as in Paul), or even Jimi, or Jerry, but I'm not sure that naming it for a real person is kosher Voodoo. So.. Zedd (Zedd's dead baby), or Disco Dan (also dead), maybe Ned (Stark), or dose it with that pink stain and call it Floyd. #skullname
Murray #skullname The name of the skull in the pirate themed computer game series "Monkey Island", in which the skull is ignored by everyone, but thinks it's terrifying, and always says "I AM MURRAY".
#skullname Richard My previous attempt triggered autodelete, so let me try and subvert the censor this time. Richard because ... nickname would be D ick and it's a head. Other suggestions Myles (MY Last Employees Severance) Cal (cium) There's probably some skull joke about "this viewer was a teenager when I started the hand tool build", but I'm struggling to condense it. Peavey? PV /Patient viewer. Ivy / IV / Impatient Viewer.
A Guitar Slide would also make a very smart looking 👀 small disc too oh and PVC Pipe, eggcup ,the soft in your hand, your Wedding Ring..just make sure to retrieve it before usage…😂 Egg Rings, empty Crimson Smart Stains bottle, an empty gladwrap roll ..not a toilet roll because POO 💩…or Ben’s favourite.. His own Personal Coffee Cup ☕️ And perhaps a cookie 🍪 cutter Just off the top of my head for now 😂😂… Good Shit Ben am always loving your Creations come together.. ✌️😎👍🇳🇿
Suggested name for the new Crimson tool ………………… a “neck chair”. Get it, so your beloved guitar can relax while it’s pampered, preened and perfected. Or it can just get a Summer rest whilst you’re on your deck chair with an ice cream 😎🙄😝👍🏻🎸 #namethattool
#nametheskull - I was immediately reminded of the old Bugs Bunny cartoon where he meets the abominable snowman, who says “I will love him and hug him and squeeze him and I shall call him George…” So. George. 👍🏻
I absolutely LOVE that body shape- so much so that I don't know if there is anything you could do with finish work that will alter how much I lust after this instrument- but I'll let you know if anything does change. In the meantime, I must say how pleased I am that you've returned to Making! I'm looking forward to see what you're going to come up with next, just as I did when I first discovered your videos about 6 or 7 years ago. I've been having some possibly serious medical issues that have been preventing me from doing much of anything at all- creative or otherwise, so even though I do love watching your creative process, it does sting just a bit, knowing I'm not able to use the creative urges you have always inspired within this old woman's soul. So just think of me when you have your moments of impatience if they begin to mission-creep towards resenting the process- - - -and just stop it, already! oh, yeah.... #SKULLNAME - the skull's name is Dali. Don't ask me why- ask HIM, for crying out loud. I'm just passing on the message. Mad Love, as always :)
This is where I would recommend a 3D printer to wither print a ring that you can then make a rubber coating for, or (if your printer can do it) print the ring directly in TPU. Love the look, though. Very nice.
Scary sharp moulds! As for the tool - that hardly takes up more space than the one I have anyway - although it IS much smaller than the ones you currently produce. How about “neck scissor support”?
I can't build a damn guitar Ben.. I don't have the space at the moment. I've been watching your channel since 2017 or so and I started on my first build in my office space but the sawdust on my computers, printer, keyboard, monitors, and electronics experiments drove me mad. And now that I've got a girlfriend, she'd probably kill me if I make sawdust in the office again.. ;) But I have a plan.. I've done some maintenance on my shed last year because the wood panels on the outside were completely rotten through to the point that rain was getting inside and some of the wooden frame even had to be fixed. I then insulated the walls of the shed with rockwool and now almost done screwing some 18mm pine floor panels to the inside of the walls to protect the insulation and be able to hang some tools. When that's done, I'm planning to make a work bench in there and then I can continue to build a damn guitar. But it's far too hot right now with the sun burning on the flat roof of the shed. (Yesterday it was 30 degrees here in the Netherlands) When I step into the shed, I feel like slowly getting roasted. It must be 40 or 45 degrees C or something in there.. :)
Btw my beautiful with has named every room in our house Windsor Wesix Whales and the master Buckingham Palace. I've got a dog named merlin and a female (aka appropriately bitch) named Morgan and my street name I won't say but it is in this theme lol
A bit of a school boy error with the new intro showing the finished guitar 🤦🏻♂️ Probably would have been better to wait and use it after this build is complete. Just checked and it’s also in the intro on the previous video 😂
Sometimes you tend to have a tendency to overdo things a little IMHO. I like the gold leaf idea, but it would have been so much nicer if it hadn't been all over the guitar, just on a few selected spots.
Hey Ben, the neck rest is cool n all. But wouldnt it make sense if crimson would redistribute gold leafing goods too. You use leafing quite a lot and are an inspiration for hobby makers. A crimson leafing kit could be appealing to these makers, because Amazon can lead these makers into a rabbit hole of correct size and leaf materials. Cheers V
You should name your skull in accordance with the finest of Vershire traditions: his name shall be Larrabee. (is it even legal to possess human remains in that fashion?)
I really don't want to add to your plate but as much as you love burning stuff. The question comes to mind Why haven't you done a sho sugi effect or style of a guitar? I'd send you of what I've done but you could do much better but this app won't let me lol
I think he has. In the "old" days when his studio was upstairs next to the office, I think he blowtorched a whole body and then oiled it. Comments insisted it would warp, crack, soot the playing arm etc, but after a light brush down it seemed to be ok.
Once again Ben made a perfecly fine istrument and could not stop there. No, he needs to push it and as always it is way too much for me but this is what I love the most in this channel. Thank you Ben for these amazing videos.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks this. I love watching Ben work, but often think he over-eggs things. He had some beautiful wood on this guitar, which was covered up with the stain - but that was actually rather beautful in the end. Then he's covered the stain up with... what is that? A pub table with a hundred beer glass stains, photoshopped into pink and gold. It detracts from the wonderfully eccentric shape of the body too.

Reminds me of crocodile teeth for electronics. So I'll go with Crocodile Rest.
#namethattool it’s clearly a Crimson Neck Horse
nEquus in Latin?
Hickey
The Infinity Rest
Great to have some build series back instead of reels
I don’t always love your artistic choices but I love watching you make them. These are exactly the kind of videos that brought me to your channel, then to your school, and that will keep me watching your channel.
Yep, along with videos that show ‘how to’ do things with the most important aspect - context.
Projects like this is exactly why I bought a 3D printer. I would model and print those stamps in TPU.
I would use pieces of plumbing pipe.
@@ianbennett5245 you would have a hard time with the curves on that top, though
The skull should be named Yorick, as in, "Alas, poor Yorick, I knew him well."
New product name crimson guitars neck hammock and the skull can be call Eddie lol
Nice to see the biltong chisel back in action!
It reminds me of that 4-string guitar that Wes Borland uses on stage for some songs. Great work!!
You could call the neck stand Peggy.
Because it’s peg-y.
Collect all the gold flakes and put them in a bottle of schnapps, lol. The "Cup Ring" guitar is born. Looking good.
How about, The Infinity Rest ?
Just popped in to say how nice it is to see you again Ben. I've missed listening to you ponder all things creative as I toddle on throughout my day. Good health to you sir
Thank you, good health to you too.

Ugh. As a neat freak when it comes to my work spaces, gold leaf just looks horrible to me lol.
I dabbled in gold leaf. Your brushes are all far too aggressive. Need some make-up brushes.
#namethattool. Jimmy Di Resta
Why isn't the child's study already an 18th century study!?
#namethattool.... the NeckRomancer, or the Neck-rophiliac
Good to see ben back building guitars. Good health sir
Thank you, it is good to be back in the right headspace again.. I'm having a blast and there is a lot more to come!
Zero Days Glitter free.
Ben will find Gold flitter even in the next years 🤣
#NAMETHATTOOL I'd call it a slingshot neck rest because it just looks like a slingshot :D
Um... Couldn't you just go ahead and buy circular stamps? I mean you bought putty. Why not buy rubber in the shape you want?
You have a good natural feeling for good designs. So many great designs except your tattoo.
Thank you
Silk screen the size?
"there must be a better way" (for scooping two equal parts) ...
Melon ball scooper?
Ben needs a 3d printer to make silicone stamp moulds. I used my printer to make the working parts for a fret press, big tr40 threads on the screw.
Ben you are doing an impersonation of michael jackson !
Ben it looks great !!!!!!!
Obviously, your headphone-wearing skull friend should be called Yorick. #skullname
Anything other than Ed really wouldn't be descriptive enough of a name...
#namethattool The Scapula: Two part semi-flexible arrangement below the neck

Loved this build. Nice one! What an absolutely cracking looking colour and a glorious flame.
Gold is a definite no though. Blingtastic. Yikes.
#namethattool How about The Turtle collapsible neck rest or Fold-n-Go neck rest.
#namethattool - how about Neck Chair... you know, like Deck Chair because it can fold?
Murray #skullname
The name of the skull in the pirate themed computer game series "Monkey Island", in which the skull is ignored by everyone, but thinks it's terrifying, and always says "I AM MURRAY".
#skullname definitely Yorick. I knew him well, Horatio.
#skullname Richard
My previous attempt triggered autodelete, so let me try and subvert the censor this time.
Richard because ... nickname would be D ick and it's a head.

The gold leaf pattern kinda reminds me of Circle Galifreyan from Doctor Who
#namethattool
looks like the chairs of a regisseur during filming. I thing #movieneckrest ore #ressigeur

New tool name. African Ethiopian Tribes use a wooden neck rest called a Kambatta as a pillow

What About Folding Neck Hammock
Saghest #namethattool and I'm sure it's to late but you should use the varrying sizes of circles to bubble diagonally up the center just a suggestion
I think the skull should be called Mortdecai. The foldable neck holder called The Band-it. Love these videos!
You should name your skull The Skull of Morbius like the old Dr. Who story Brain of Morbius
Sometimes you tend to have a tendency to overdo things a little IMHO. I like the gold leaf idea, but it would have been so much nicer if it hadn't been all over the guitar, just on a few selected spots.
I'm thinking while you apply the "glue" : a string could make nice random patterns with a thin line, no ?
Hey Ben, the neck rest is cool n all. But wouldnt it make sense if crimson would redistribute gold leafing goods too. You use leafing quite a lot and are an inspiration for hobby makers. A crimson leafing kit could be appealing to these makers, because Amazon can lead these makers into a rabbit hole of correct size and leaf materials. Cheers V
#NAMETHATTOOL foldy necky thingy (please for the love of God, don't call it this)
You should name your skull in accordance with the finest of Vershire traditions: his name shall be Larrabee. (is it even legal to possess human remains in that fashion?)
Ben.
Perfection can be found in things that are not perfect.
Nice work. 😀
I would have stopped after the fourth or fifth circle. But oh no. NOT BEN.
Last time I saw one of those beautiful rules it was being used to roll fingerprint ink at Highlands Police Station in Harare.
My Hercules neck rest fell over one to many times so I made a wide removable base for it. No more damaged guitar from a tipping neck rest!
The pattern made with the glue could also look nice with paint; a different take on a burst finish perhaps?
Thought i'd put Breaking Bad on by mistake! :D
Down with mediocrity, down with boredom, down with the bland!
Just stick the putty in your mouth and chew it. Nothing mixes better than your mouth. 😂
#NAMETHATTOOL I’d call it the “Red Neck” because who doesn’t love a bad pun?
Ahhh Ben, the truth is gold leaf is the work of the devil! Hellish stuff! Lol! X
Clearly the skull under the glass was a music pirate back in the day.
#namethattool you could name it PICKLE CLIP =)
Those little bits coming off the brush are absolute gold dust!
sorry.
It may not have been a perfect way of doing the leading or how you wanted it look, however, the end result turned out pretty awesome looking
😁 careful Ben, the internet claims “you don’t f#ck with cats” 😅
The leather saddle backed neck rest should be called Blencathra - the original Saddleback
I think that anything other than Yorick is a missed opportunity. #skullname
I once gold plated a donner kebab. True story.
Something that is perfect can be reproduced, you create one off pieces.
Youre gonna be finding bits of gold in random places for months mate.
For some not very apparent reason, the word that ran through my head when I saw the tool was cravat! No idea why.
#namethattool the neck pin
#skullname Crowe Mag Non
you are a madman, thanks for designing a clever neck rest that doesn't take up a ton of space
Me when the sizing is on: Oh no, what has he done?!
Me when the gold is on: Oh, smashed it, nice!
I'd call the skull Duggery
#skullname Heidurr (it’s a Scots thing)
#namethattool - how about “The Hammock”…?
Try to use uv glue, or polygel, that is used for nails.
Help Ben name his skull 11:40 😂 Comment below or use the #skullname 👇
That skull definitely gives me Jeff vibes. Yes my ideas are dumb.
Clarence... don't know why, just looks like a Clarence.
Beans
I'm thinking he should be called Murray, like the skull from Monkey Island
Pretty sure that's the skull of a wizard. Perhaps...some call him...Tim? #skullname #montypython
hew hew hu hoo Weak the Feng Shui in this one is
New tool name. KR24a. Absolutely no reason at all
#skullname Benneth, Monty or Horatio.
#namethattool Looks very like a clothes peg when closed.... so Clothes Peg Stand
or maybe just "the peg?" That could work, too.
The skull has the look of a "Stentor" to me.
I really don't want to add to your plate but as much as you love burning stuff. The question comes to mind
