I just installed my 55mm shockstop and gave it a run yesterday. I am impressed no numb hands anymore! I live in Quebec, our roads are in a terrible state…
I'm really glad that they released these shorter versions. My bike doesn't come with too many size options (Surly Preamble) and the medium size frame is just a little bit on the bigger side for me personally at 176cm, and shortening the stem is a logical step. The bike comes stock with a 90mm stem, so the previously available 80mm wouldn't be a massive downsize. I need to have a proper bike fit at some point, but I guess the 70mm option might be just right.
@@Hurricane2k8 same height as me. I use a small frame with 90mm stem but used to have a Giant medium frame that was a stretch. I changed that for a standard 70mm stem, but with hindsight a 55mm might have been better. Redshift has a free return policy so you can change your choice if it’s not right for you.
The 55mm couldn't have come at a better time! I just upgraded my bars to ones with more reach so my palms have more real estate and that stretched my posture out immensely with my current 90mm shockstop stem, so I tried a 60mm rigid stem and you really do notice the lack of shock absorption, gonna use your code thanks a bunch!!!
Hi Roy I live in Canada and have used the Redshift stem for years,, At first i didn't notice much of a difference, I changed the rubber's out to a much softer setting then suggested , and like it a lot more now, using on a trek domane road bike to stop numb hands.
Just bought a Domane last weekend and seriously considering the same thing. Just trying to decide between the stock 90mm length, or perhaps going a little shorter to reduce the reach just a bit...
@@michaelc3416 If you go shorter then 90 the bike can feel a bit twitchy. Treks do come with huge handlebars that make you stretch for the hoods. Have a look at a Deda compact bar.
@@redauwg911 Thanks. I hadn't considered the effect it might have on handling and was only thinking of shortening the reach just a tad. Fortunately, I have freakishly long arms (ape index of +6), so the bike actually fits me well as is. In fact, when they were fitting the bike for me, as the tech was measuring all my angles and such, he actually commented, "Wow, you have really long arms." 😂 So, I guess I'll just stay with the same 90mm length and call it good. 👍

Since the days when I rode bikes with skinny tyres pumped up to 100+psi I think road surfaces are much worse. In France the worse surfaces are through the towns and villages but much better on the D and C roads. I've opted for fatter tyres and lower pressures of around 45 psi to let me ride gravel and rougher paved roads. I was getting severe pins and needles that made cycling miserable. Redshift certainly have belief in their products if they offer what is really a free trial. Are you planning to fit one to your ebike?
@@colinwellman9480 I’ve had one on my gravel bike for a couple of years, and I love it. If I start riding the Ribble more often I’ll definitely be investing in one for that. In our rural location in France I was always amazed at the speed they would repair a fissure in a road before it became a pothole.
Hi Roy, Do you know whether or Redshift has any plans for a suspension seatpost to suit shorter riders having produced a shorter stem? I have only 7 c.m. clearance under my saddle to the top of the frame. 10 c.m. seems to be the minimum requirement.
I’ve had a response, Isobel. Redshift say that to achieve this the seat post would need a complete redesign. They don’t have any current plans to do this but have recorded your comment. I remember when they didn’t have any plans to shorten the stem, so you never know.
Hopefully I’ll get a look at your own stem soon. Just to clarify I’d need a torque wrench to a specific setting? If so I’ll have to get one as I’ve always gone on experience when tightening bolts. 🫣

Just ordered 55mm for gravel and must say state of our roads in Cheshire East maybe good idea for road bike

@greigs9384 if it’s worked in the past I would just go with experience. It’s no different to any other stem in that respect.
Just as well you don't work on engine's there's no place ever were experience replaces a tourqe wrench
