I feel the main problems with this online movement are that there seems to be more than one list and some celebrities won't be affected enough for it to matter to them.

No offense but no one, even common people, can’t even speak their own opinions without getting blasted anymore. They have to remain neutral or keep their opinions to themselves- being a celebrity is a brand, and they’re not gonna bring politics to taint or influence the support of their brand. It’s not exactly a one way, simple answer. They aren’t in complete control of their brand either
@@nafeesanaz you mean like in any war or genocide? Even in the world wars there were neutral countries. Yeah, people should be pissed off, but you are acting as if this is a special case. You are not trying to spread around news about the concentration camps in China or the discrimination against Romani people, whose hate is to this day the most normalised and whose identity is largely erased to this day? There are so many social injustices y'all turn your back to, so much murder and persecution that you don't care about because it doesn't breath in your neck. these celebs can easily save so much lives but jist chose not to:) angelina jolie is speaking about palestine from years and thats the kind of celebs we should support not the ones that are doing immoral things just bc they can lose some money
I think the anger is a bit misdirected. Aren't the governments and politicians more responsible Sure celebrities can have an impact on their audiences if they choose to speak out but i dont think it should be an obligation Also like most people, not all celebrities are selfless so they're not willing to risk their career for it
Well, let’s say for example Taylor swift, a few years ago she made 1 insta post that got thousands of people to vote during that election, so if she were to make a post about Palestine, we can guess that most likely hundreds of thousands maybe even over one million ppl would donate to Palestine.
When you have the amount of impact they have it low-key becomes a moral responsibility to bring attention to it especially when it's the taxes that they pay their governments that's funding it. Especially when they have the amount of money to actually make a difference. It's fine to not want to follow someone who's selfish to such a point. No one is obligated to follow or interact with anyone they don't agree with. Same way celebrities aren't actually forced to speak up, but things have consequences.

They really dont care. These celebs lose thousands of followers daily for a multitude of reasons, this really won't affect them. If you have the time to block over 200 Instagram accounts you have the time to do something actually meaningful
I have about 5 years into activism. there is almost always a bigger, better cause to advocate for. there is always something more impactful you can do. a lot of activism is a big investment of Time and energy [but at a certain point resources and money is required]. personally I believe in the power of digital movements because blocking is something fast and easy basically anybody can do. it's actually pretty easy to block hundreds of people using a chain blocker. also considering how common consumption/overconsumption of social media is, targeting people's social media makes sense to me. it sends a message that people only want to support certain kinds of celebrities
If they don't want to speak out that's fine but it would be really helpful if a big celebrity would do it because they have a lot of influence, and would actually bring more awareness to Palestine!!
@@celemanj2There is already so much awareness regarding Palestine as is. Instead of focusing on what is happening, why not focusing on what CAN be done? They’re not politicians, they don’t have government experience. Why are you looking to them to be responsible for “taking stands”? Stop boycotting celebrities for not talking about something that has nothing to do with their jobs.
I think that people are mostly boycotting them so they could focus on rafah and palestine in general. The media has been trying to distract us from the genocide in palestine, and especially with the met gala people were pointing out how it was incredibly tone deaf considering millions of people in palestine are dying. The people who can make change happen aren’t being followed by millions on instagram. It’s like getting mad at a teacher for not cleaning the school bathrooms. That’s not in their job description. Why should they do something they clearly don’t want to do when it probably won’t even help the situation. People will keep dying and famous people will always exist
There’s reasons why they don’t openly do something like their managers are telling them not to remain neutral. Some that have their own platforms and money so they can openly speak out. But for those that work with recording studios have to stay neutral so that they don’t get affected when shit hits the fan even more.
This is more reason to do a block out once the studios start losing money because their artists can't speak out it will make it more likely for them to let them. More so than if they were an individual because as a rule studios are money hungry.
They have more than enough money to last them a couple lifetimes, I'm sure they can survive saying "I don't support genocide and mass murderer" if they really wanted to

I mean, I’m just glad that there’s less focus on celebrities. People used to worship them, but at the end of the day, they’re just regular people in the arts that got lucky. They’re not government officials or anything. Making a hit pop song doesn’t mean you have an expertise in history and politics.
You have a very shallow view of the world. Celebs for the most part aren't people who "just got lucky" the most influential ones have connections to the government and most likely own shares in some of these corporations.
No. In all honesty, it's not their job. They are entertainers and nothing more. Everyone is free to look for information on their own, but they don't. Why? They just don't care or have their own lives to live. Especially here in the USA where everything is becoming more expensive, and have to work to support their own families. Also, since when have the rich and powerful ever cared about the poor or what happens in another country.
i don’t see how ‘ everything becoming expensive’ excuses allowing a genocide to take place? After the holocaust, didn’t every country say ‘ never again’? Celebs speak out on so many issues and causes, they aren’t merely entertainment. No one would hesitate to say Hitler was evil yet there is so much silence over such a tragedy
@q76536 I never said that was an excuse. What I said is if people cared, they can do their own investigations. If you have to hear a famous person speak up about something, did you actually pay attention because you cared or are you just a mindless zombie without your own thoughts running through you head. Also, if 2 groups can't fix their own mess, what do you expect a 3rd party to do, that not only do they not live in the area but are also not part of the religion that are fighting and since when have bad people cared or asked permission to do bad things.
@@joestrada-dk4sl it’s not a religious issue, it’s a ethnic cleansing of the palestinian people. As for the ‘ 2 groups’, if the usa and other powerful countries can give weapons to one side then it’s not between 2 groups anymore. It’s a wider issue with multiple parties involved. Also the palestinian people haven’t got an army and isreal controls their food, water and electricity so it’s clearly not a fair fight. They also aren’t allowing any aid in and are responsible for over 33k civilians deaths including the deaths of their own citizens that were taken hostage. And the sad reality that is today, is that people care if their idols care. Celebs have a lot of influence and them speaking out will cause more people to actually look at what’s happening rather then mindlessly following government propaganda.

Attacking celebrities is just as much a distraction as worshipping them. Who in your city/country is in power and what is their narrative on poverty, wars, homelessness?
Finally a sensible comment. This is just another distraction. Do people really think that celebs have that much of an impact on the world that their support can stop wars?
ACTUALLY RIGHT! We shouldn't be attacking people's who's jobs are to create art, instead attack the ones who are actually in charge of not helping the innocent people on both sides
It helps bring awareness to the problem and big celebrities can hugely pressure politicians and media to do something about the situation across the globe like Palestine, Congo and Sudan also having influential people raise their voices helps people all around the world including president and prime ministers to actually stop their funding on all those genocides. @@SihamAhmed-jd4ru I am using my common sense, that's why I am asking because I don't really understand how, e.g., Taylor Swift speaking up about Palestine would convince the US government to stop supporting Israel. It's hard to take them seriously and if anything just does more against the cause then it does for the cause.

Although another comment stated that people will blow up over a political event only to forget about it (i.e. Ukraine and STILL Flint Michigan and let's not forget Ohio) which is very true. If celebrities are expected to care so much about a political event and give their views then that expectation should be put on everyone for the FULL DURATION of the event. No famous person has said anything new or enlightening about it, America shouldn’t be in the war either because we quite literally aren’t apart of it, that only makes helps in turning it into a world war.
I think Palestine and Israel issue shouldn’t be forced upon celebrities. I think it would have been more reasonable to have celebrities donate money to help with taxes which should pay for healthcare, military, economy, and etc. have it help fix our country-especially since the left and right in our country are dealing with our own issues. Middle class doesn’t have enough money to focus on another country because yes, even though other countries are at war, first world countries are dealing with our own battles. What about going against human tra-, drug traff-, criminals, the rights of the people back, ensuring safety for citizens, immigration policies that protect the citizens of the country, capital punishment, inflation, foster care, adoption process, getting rid of obvious cults (Scientology), allowing Christianity to come back and even allow Bibles in public schools, funding the police, protecting not just children but men and women too, bringing back laws regarding marriages, banning inappropriate videos, etc. there’s a lot of things within our country and we do not have enough resources to give to other countries, we’re putting them the wrong way, etc. So I agree, celebrities are not there to be the bridge to donating dozens of money to other countries. Money, resources, and people have been sent to all over. Yet no one can see that we need to help and fix our own economy? Like I stand for Israel, I completely understand Israel’s decisions-even if the media is making Israel look like a criminal while Palestine made the terroristic actions to have Israel declare war on Palestine. Israel gave enough time for any and all citizens in Gaza to leave-but because the Hamas, a terrorist government led party of Gaza is using citizen clothing to hide, of course no matter what Israel does- the world wants to get emotional over a UN vehicle getting destroyed. When war happens, even UN workers and volunteers should stay out of their way . Let Israel wipe out the terrorists. For those who are actively going to Jewish universities in first world countries and are threatening Jewish students. Why don’t you go to Palestine and fight for it? Don’t run away from your violent homeland and come here with your violent mindset. The only reason why you have a freedom to your religion is because of the religion that built the country, Christianity and those who fought against tyrannical, authoritarian, etc people. You escape from a place that’s crappy and you hate the west for the freedom it gives.
People treat celebrities like Gods, their word is law. Theres a difference between not saying anything because you do not understand the situation and not saying anything so you dont piss people off. "In a way, to be indifferent to that suffering is what makes the human being inhuman. Indifference, after all, is more dangerous than anger and hatred. Anger can at times be creative. One writes a great poem, a great symphony. One does something special for the sake of humanity because one is angry at the injustice that one witnesses. But indifference is never creative. Even hatred at times may elicit a response. You fight it. You denounce it. You disarm it. Indifference elicits no response. Indifference is not a response. Indifference is not a beginning; it is an end. And, therefore, indifference is always the friend of the enemy, for it benefits the aggressor -- never his victim, whose pain is magnified when he or she feels forgotten. The political prisoner in his cell, the hungry children, the homeless refugees -- not to respond to their plight, not to relieve their solitude by offering them a spark of hope is to exile them from human memory. And in denying their humanity, we betray our own." - Elie Wiesel, The Perils of Indifference

Obviously, the whole Palestine thing is a horrible thing that is currently happening, but I don’t think not having a Met Gala would change anything. People are going to be mad at celebrities no matter what they do
either way, calling for a cancellation of the met gala is absolutely the wrong move. that event is practically the sole source of funding for the costume institute of the met. without it, historical preservation could not be kept up with. now of course you could argue that lives matter more than old dresses, but my point is it shouldn’t be a debate of which one matters more. both should have a chance to be funded, meaning both the met gala and drives for palestine should be allowed to occur, regardless of how dystopian it may seem for them to coexist.
It’s because of Hailey Baylee’s elitist video in which she quoted an elitist quote at one of the most elitist events. That’s when blockout2024 started. It isn’t the cancellation of the Met Gala, which she got completely wrong in this video.

Even I got kinda caught up in the blockout stuff and was happy it was happening until you said this. Good point. Two wrongs don’t make a right.
I would think that you would have the same energy when G/za is getting mistreated. Being ignored and left to suffer alone hurts, and it's unkind to not recognize one's suffering. However it hurts more physically when you have b/mbs and debris flying in on you and your loved ones. I guess the perspective can be shifted both ways except celebrities will live even if they have less revenue coming in but the same can't be said about G/za.
Boycotting is still useful. It can show that we are not going to stand for the indifference. The people make a Celebrities career and they need to be reminded of that. What's happening in Gaza is a literal genocide and I think thats far worse than being blocked online.

This is from an article I read about the "pin": Let’s talk about the red hands on the Oscar pins and why it’s a fraught and painful issue for many of us who care about Israel: You didn’t know me then, but back in 2000, I was a freshman at UC Berkeley when things got crazy in Israel when the Second Intifada erupted. I will never forget the first time it hit me hard - I had just finished taking an anthro 1 quiz. I was drinking a green tea boba tea. And I was reading CNN online when I saw the story about the lynching in Ramallah. Two Israelis, Yosef Avrahami and Vadim Norzhich, had made a very wrong turn, and would never turn back. They were swallowed by a lynch mob whole, who beat them, stabbed them, gouged their eyes out, and disemboweled them as they lay on the floor of the Ramallah police station. And when one of the Israeli men’s phones rang and rang and rang - his wife, worried that she hadn’t heard from him - his killer picked up the phone and said “your husband is dead.” The words were enough to make me sick - just as I’m sure they’re making you sick, too. But it was the photograph that ran alongside the text that left me screaming, screaming, screaming out of my mind, a keening wail from across ten time-zones, as I stared at the picture of one of the men who did this to them, who squeezed their lives from their bodies with such brutal inhumanity, and who then stood by the open window and waved to the cheering crowd below. His hands, like two bloody flags waving from the window, his hands like something from the darkest recesses of the mind that drags us to that place where humanity shambles off to die. His hands, those two hands with five fingers each, just like mine, just like yours, covered in the blood of another man… a Jew. A Jew like me. So when I see the Artists for Ceasefire pins with the red hand on it - that’s what I think about. I can’t NOT think about it. And I wonder if the designers knew about this story. I wonder if they knew but didn’t care. I wonder, also, if it was done on purpose… I’d like to think it wasn’t, but I wonder… I wonder if the celebrities wearing the pins knew the history of the Second Intifada which nearly brought us to our knees in Israel, or about the lynching in Ramallah and those horrible hands out the window red with human blood and if they did know about any of this, I wonder if they made the connection and just didn’t care. And, I have to wonder why they couldn’t also bring themselves to wear a yellow ribbon in solidarity with the suffering of the hostages held captive in Gaza alongside the red. Surely, the human heart is big enough to care for both Palestinians and Jews who bleed the same color anyway? I wonder.
It's also like everyone forgot about how h-mas rworded and paraded women naked through streets St the beginning of the current eruption of war....and about all the hostages etc. Also I agree, ppl can care both about the innocent in Palestine and the Innocent in Israel

If a famous person does want to speak out. We shouldn't pressure other famous people to speak out if they don't want to speak out.

This is more reason to do a block out once the studios start losing money because their artists can't speak out it will make it more likely for them to let them. More so than if they were an individual because as a rule studios are money hungry.

Let's be real here, but from what I remember correctly, every time the USA stepped up to help, it didn't work out that way. 911 happened because the USA stepped up and gave weapons and training.

genuinely asking, why do people think that if celebrities speak up about it Israel will stop??
It helps bring awareness to the problem and big celebrities can hugely pressure politicians and media to do something about the situation across the globe like Palestine, Congo and Sudan also having influential people raise their voices helps people all around the world including president and prime ministers to actually stop their funding on all those genocides. So if you could use common sense and see the huge impact this does that would be appreciated.
But why though? Why do they HAVE to have the same political views and talk about things you want them to?
I mean, it's about where your morals stand and how much you value them.
Never heard of this to be honest
And in denying their humanity, we betray our own."
- Elie Wiesel, The Perils of Indifference

Entertainers are there to make us escape the real world, not remind us about the horrors in the world.
Absolutely
Lmao people are dying everywhere people are suffering and they're boycotting celebrities and not doing anything meaningful the people doing this are also not doing anything to help they should rest
This is from an article I read about the "pin":
Let’s talk about the red hands on the Oscar pins and why it’s a fraught and painful issue for many of us who care about Israel:
You didn’t know me then, but back in 2000, I was a freshman at UC Berkeley when things got crazy in Israel when the Second Intifada erupted.
And when one of the Israeli men’s phones rang and rang and rang - his wife, worried that she hadn’t heard from him - his killer picked up the phone and said “your husband is dead.”
The words were enough to make me sick - just as I’m sure they’re making you sick, too.
What do they mean by inaction celebrities are not obligated to take part of foreign affairs
When it’s a genocide, yeah 🥰 many people that specialise in learning of genocides have stated this is one (forgot the career name) and multiple holocaust survivors have come out and also stated it’s a genocide like the holocaust. So uhhh, YEAH. It’s human decency to at least call for a ceasefire (which halts the murder of literally any human being on both sides).

I think its a mix of both, everybody has their own political priorities.
It's actually both, people dying of starvation and not being able to afford basic necessities and the genocide going on in gaza

I dont get why celebrities are FORCED to share their political or views on world events, when that’s not their job. Blame the government and political figures, not celebrities 🤦♀️
I see your point because when a celebrity do they tend to get more people after them
It is, actually. Once you reach a certain level of recognition, it is your job to use that platform for the better. Politicians are swayed by money and public opinion and celebrities recognizing and vocalizing an issue is a major step in change. Especially since their political reach is much wider than that of the average person. Ignoring an issue when you have such a large following is, unfortunately, a political take in and of itself.
@@FrostB1teFPSit’s rlly not tho. I def think ppl w huge platforms should speak out, but they aren’t obligated to. Again, I think they SHOULD speak out, but saying it’s their responsibility isn’t ture
@katkay9923 its a moral obligation. At the end of the day, every form of media is inherently political. From music to film to art, everything has political undertones. We like to absolve celebrities of this moral obligation because it makes it easier to support them. Also, we live in an information era, and remianing uninformed and unaligned on a topic is a privilege and bc its a privilege its poltical. If u are in a position to say "i dont need to care or speak out" you are comfy enough to be profiting of the system that is causing injustice thus you are, in your silence, picking a political side.

We don’t need virtue signalling from celebrities. They should do what they do - act/sing/perform (whatever their art might be) and keep to themselves.
