I thought they all sounded cool on viola but my favorite was Bruch. The key of C minor added a whole new element of darkness to the piece which I loved!
Such good interpretations! Funny because I'm playing Bruch as well and yours just made me realize there's a whole world of drama that I could explore even more Can't wait for the day you go on a viola world tour :D
Love how much depth Tchaikovsky gains. The only one that loses on the viola is Sibelius imo. (The 2nd movement would be brilliant though. Could you do Halvorsen's violin concerto on the viola? I like it except there's too much e string. The violawould remedy that.
Although I''m normally not a fan of the Mendelssohn, it was just *chef's kiss* here. The Bruch and Korngold were also great- since I'm learning the Bruch, it was so interesting to see what a different approach you had to fingerings!
Beautiful! Good idea to see if any could be transposed and rearranged for orchestra. The orchestra arrangements could be hard, I guess -- the transposition for the solo part seems obvious, but transposition won't work for most of the orchestral instruments and would have to be reimagined.
I felt the dark character of Sibelius really suited the timbre of the viola, probably better than the violin. The Korngold and Bruch also worked well. To my ear, both Tchaikovsky and Mendelssohn are much brighter sounding pieces, particularly the Mendelssohn and were not convincing on viola. Maybe this could be compensated with a combination of slightly less bow, a little more weight and slightly smaller, quicker vibrato sometimes (I don’t know- haven’t tried this out- maybe you can, it might add a little violin ‘zing’ to compensate for the key change?!)
@@ViolaKing I love his first symphony as well. Check out Walton's Violin Concerto as well, or any of Vieuxtemps's 7 violin concertos, or any of the Rolla Viola Concertos. Some of my favorites.
I wish there were more concertos and similar for viola. I often times prefer them as the solo instrument. The higher register of the violin sometimes just isn't for me. I think the viola is actually my favourite of the string instruments. I don't understand why it is so underappreciated.
@@ViolaKing yea because my viola is not worse but less quality than yours im pretty sure so maybe they will sound different but I’ll still try them out thanks

Great job! Loved the Korngold and Sibelius! Cheers!👍
Very nice 👌. I'd love to hear you play the 3rd movement too
Wow, that Sibelius was incredible!
I think that Tchaikovsky
did not sound that well i
thought the Mendelsohn blended in very well same with Korngold i really liked the playing good job.
Yes, the Bruch sounded like it was meant for the viola! Absolutely fantastic! Korngold was my second fave.
Every single one is an improvement, of course, but the Bruch and the Sibelius were the real stand-outs.

Viola world tour would be a dream

I haven’t heard of it but I’ll give it a listen
Wow, fantastic technique! I loved the Korngold and Sibelius for allowing more resonances.
This Version from Viola is more warm and I really like it , than the screaching Violin one ^_^
I love this. I want to hear complete versions of all of these on viola now. (Bruch was my favorite though.)
At some point I’d like to arrange and perform an entire first movement, probably Bruch
@@ViolaKing oh my god yes please do it with bruch!
Lionel Tertis's viola debut was the Mendelssohn and Wieniawski violin concertos on viola. This video feels like deja vu ... well done!
Didn’t know about that. Tertis was certainly a daredevil
Bruch was my favorite! Absolutely beautiful!
Beautiful!
Oh my, the Sibelius gave me goosebumps :D brilliant!

The Bruch sounds lovely. And the end of the Mendelsohn.
All hail the viola king! Now I want to go home and practice! thanks for the inspiration! #goals
Awesome!
I think the only ones that didn’t suit the Viola’s darker tones were the Tchaikovsky and Korngold. Bruch was great, took on o whole new dimension.

I might tackle a piano arrangement for a first movement of one of these at some point, orchestra would be another monster entirely
Just so you know i applauded out loud for you ;))
omg this sounds wayyyyyyyyyyyy better on viola!! I mean, Caroline Campbell sounds great but this is way less cringy :) thank you for sharing!
that's amazing!
This is so pretty! When my friends make fun of me for playing viola, I'm going to show this to them. :) lol
As a cellist, y'all are much cooler than the violins 💚
I really like the Bruch and Sibelius
could you try Prokofiev`s first concerto?
I’ll consider it for a sequel
👏
Bruch concerto sound perfect!

Try Barber's Violin Concerto. It's not the most virtuosic, but damn do I wish he wrote something significant for viola.
I enjoy barbers writing too, I’ll consider the concerto for a sequel

Sibeliusseemed (to me) to be the best fit. At least the section that was played.
I wish there were more concertos and similar for viola. I often times prefer them as the solo instrument. The higher register of the violin sometimes just isn't for me. I think the viola is actually my favourite of the string instruments. I don't understand why it is so underappreciated.
The higher register of the viola is severely underrated and that’s part of the reason Viola has been overlooked as a solo instrument
@@ViolaKing Well, what a shame.
Hi where can I find the sheet music for mendolssohn concerto on Viola.
4:28
can u do mozart violin concerto 5?
Hey amazing video btw but I’ve just been curious on what size is your viola as mine is 16.5 and still looks way smaller compared to yours
Mine is 16.75
@@ViolaKing .25 really makes a difference. Was thinking about getting the same strings you use
I have 3 pirazzi and a gold pirazzi A, but every instrument is different. My previous viola sounded better with infelds
@@ViolaKing yea because my viola is not worse but less quality than yours im pretty sure so maybe they will sound different but I’ll still try them out thanks
You have a part in pdf?
Where do you find the sheet music
I read off the violin parts from imslp and transposed down a fifth in my head
@@ViolaKing thankss
!
I don’t get it. There should be way more concertos for violas than violins, cuz of the grand sound they make!
Does anyone know if there’s a transcription of Burch for viola anywhere 🥹
