GREAT PRODUCT & WONDERFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM SOFT START COMPANY: I went to install the Soft Start on my RV AC. My particular AC was not listed in the instructions. I sent an email to the Soft Start company and received a very quick reply with the specific reference to how to install. When I got on the RV roof and looked at my AC I was very wary about which wires to connect to the Soft Start. I sent a TEXT (WTH PHOTO) to the Soft Start company and simply said “Need help installing.” I received a phone call from a Technician for Soft Start company within 5 MINUTES. He stayed on the phone with me an walked me through every step of the install.
Have these on my ac’s for the last 6 months and they have done wonderful. I installed myself as they are extremely easy to install. Highly recommend them.
Thanks Eric for the quick response. (I am also 7Iron707 below--used the wrong acct earlier). I have written to Mike to get a clearer understanding. If indeed a Honda EU2000 will generate 24 amps (or 2.8+kw) at startup as shown on Mike's chart, then I am rushing out today to purchase one, and will order the ST from you immediately .
Is it safe to say that the 52amp starting W/out the softstart does not trip a 50amp campground breaker? I'm assuming because it's such a very short period of time?
Great video and very informative. It was straight to the point without “geeking out” on the explanation. I see this question was ask/answer about a year - can you please confirm in 2022 that the soft start system does not damage the a/c/.
Running amp draw Compressor 13.5 btu 12 Evap Fan (Inside) 1.8 Condenser Fan (Outside) 1.3 Total amps 15.1 as to the soft start web site I could run my ac with a predator 2000, 2000 watt is max and running is 1800 ?????????? It cuts the starting amps in 1/2?
I'm not very educated on something like this, but why are the air conditioner companies not installing a SoftStart system during the manufacture process? Great information, thank you
‘Question’ - I understand the process which how the soft start operates but my worry is what it will do to AC motor & capacitor when running for a long time in the summer months? Why wouldn’t these RV/Trailer Company install these on the unit automatically if this works so well? Thank you, AB
Hi AB, The Soft Start assists at start up, so it will not have an effect for long term use during the hot months. Also, some AC suppliers are starting to put a soft starter on them, I hope that eventually all AC manufacturers will do this, but time will tell. I hope this helps. Eric
Great interview, Eric! My travel trailer has two 15K Coleman A/Cs. My main A/C has a MicroAir EasyStart (I wasn't aware of the SoftStartRV) and I've contemplated installing another on the 2nd A/C. Can you point to any information comparing the MicroAir EasyStart and SoftStartRV units?
Both Companies have articles stating why they are the best. I will say it from my standpoint, I know SoftStart works as advertised and I am sure Micro Air does too. We chose SoftStart because of the quality of the unit, the customer service, including phone call install appointments, and I trust Mike Sokols opinion on this type product and he supports the SoftStart. I hope this helps.
Hi Bernie, If you got a tech to do the install then it would just be their hourly rate, and I am guessing it would be no more than a hour, if they were familiar with the product. If this was their first time installing then it may take them a bit longer.
Hi Guy, This sounds like a dual basement unit and it is highly likely that it has 2 compressors. So in this case, you would put a SoftStart on both compressors. This would work the same with any brand, hope this helps. Eric
Hi Shark, this technology has been around for a pretty good while and there are no reports of this being a issue. The different in start up time is a fraction of a second and not even noticeable. Thanks for checking out the video.
Fantastic discussion and demonstration.

That is one of the many reasons we went with them. Such great customer service! Thanks for sharing.
Good video
Thanks Eric!

Thanks for the recommendation!
That dude is awesome!
We agree!

It does not trip the breaker, no.

Ive been using the Wego electrical connectors for years. They are great. This is a great explanation video and thanks for offering it.

Amazing video as usual from TechnoRV!
Thanks Darlene!

I have three Dometic 15,000 A/C units. Two are heat pumps as well. Are there detailed instructions for installing on the heat pump units?
Dometics are pretty common, there will be a wiring diagram, and you can set up a phone call for help while you do the install.
Great Interview and information. Thanks for putting this out on The Tube.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Good question!
@@Technorv Simple answer: $$
Great video Eric. Very informative.
Did I understand that the source for Mike’s test was a Honda EU2200 producing 2200 peak(start) or 18.33 amps?....great video!!
I believe it was a 2200, although he refers to 2000 watt generators also relating to using a SoftStart.

"this" was very interesting, extremely cool and... Great examples / analogies!!!
Thank you!

How much does it usually cost to have a mobile tech install a soft start?
This is an EASY DIY with the Soft Start Company technician assisting over the phone. See my above comment.

I have a 2 stage 27,000 btu heatpump located under my fifthwheel, do you know if this will work on our unit?
If the SoftStartRV won't handle it, MicroAir EasyStart has several sizes of their units. They can suppot 6 ton AC units and up.
Hi Guy, This sounds like a dual basement unit and it is highly likely that it has 2 compressors. So in this case, you would put a SoftStart on both compressors. This would work the same with any brand, hope this helps. Eric
Is there any risk to the a/c slow rolling in the juice ?

Great technical conversion! Thank you for this information :)
Thanks Ron!
