Nice video James! You're spot-on about Maidstone, by far their best b-side and on just about every Squeeze compilation I ever made. I always think of that song (and Footprints) in the autumn. I was a bit surprised that you didn't have any singles from Ridiculous because, for me, the Electric Trains b-side Cracker Jack is probably their second best b-side.
Hi James. Great way to show and talk about hits and lesser known songs. I need to check out your favorites because I never really got past the (U.S.) hits. Cheers!
Squeeze are mainly remembered for a handful of songs which is a shame as they have such a big catalogue. There are a couple of good Greatest Hits collections out there. Thanks for watching!
Hi James, excellent collection and ranking, was hoping you do a Squeeze video one day and great video it is! I have near all the singles myself and a handful of their records. Have a great weekend mate and hope to see another Squeeze vid again some day.
Hi James. I love “Maidstone” it’s one of my all time favorite Squeeze songs. I first heard it on a 2 CD set Squeeze Story. Also like What the Butler Saw. Cheers! - Matt
Squabs On Forty Fab, obviously a parody of Stars On 45 which I still see in thrift store bins to this day (or did, pre pandemic). I sort of dimly remember that medley bit being a thing at the time but otherwise cannot recall too much. Fantastic collection of singles James!
Yes absolutely a play on words there. I think Squabs on Forty Five was probably a cannily executed reminder at the time for the benefit of people who knew Squeeze songs without necessarily realising they were by the same group. Terrible new about Toots by the way. Cheers Doug.
@@jamesgriffithsmusic I don't like to upload more than one video per week normally but unavoidable in this instance, tribute to Toots coming up in a day or two...
Hi James I don’t know many of squeezes b sides . As I’ve told you I’m a big fan of squeezes single between take me I’m your to black coffee in bed .. impressive collection off singles though .. I do have Sunday street so I know the song Maidstone .. I could do a jam version of this .. maybe one day .. thanks for sharing James 👍
Brilliant video James. I agree with all your choices but I would make room for Squabs on Forty Fab. I'd maybe take The Hunt out. Maidstone is also my favourite of their B sides.
Hey, James. I do like bands who do good B-sides. It's interesting that early in their careers bands seem to have a surplus of songs to use as B-sides, but later on they seem to use live versions or remixes. It definitely seems that later in a band's career, especially if they're successful, everything they write goes on the album. R.E.M. are a prime example of this. Early on, great B-sides, enough to justify a comp collecting them, but later, post success, dull live takes and remixes. I should really listen to more Squeeze, I do like them.
Hi Hedley. I guess it makes sense that the longer an artist goes on, the less good material they have sloshing around for B-sides and the like. Funnily enough , one notable exception to that is Macca who started doing great B-sides and bonus tracks as he got into his forties. Thanks for watching, looking forward to your Chas'n'Dave special.
I absolutely love the Squeeze song 'Library Girl' which only seems to be included on the deluxe CD version of Argybargy released in 2008. Any idea if it originated before that?
Since Squeeze is so good with singles i'd expect them to be good with B-sides too. There are several bands that were really good with B-sides, i'm always hoping there'd be a compilation of their b-sides collected. Pretenders is an example. btw. i always count live versions and demo versions on the b-sides. They are non-album tracks and as such are always welcome. Pasi
Hi James, This one snuck past me somehow. Nice idea...we seldom talk about B-side tracks from singles here on the VC surprisingly. I saw a copy of the Difford & Tilbrook record the other day? Is it any good? Should I go back and grab it?
Hi John. I'd hesitate to grab the D+T album. It's one of my favourite albums of all time but that's because I'm a fan and have emotional attachments to it. It's quite flawed and of its time production and arrangement-wise. Tony Visconti practically disowned it after release. I would be curious to hear your thoughts on the next record they made though, which was Cosi Fan Tutti Frutti.
Thanks for showing the collection! It's hard to call them a singles band, but they really were a singles band.
They made some good albums too but most of them didn't sell and have been forgotten....watch this space!

I love all the B-sides from that era but I didn't want to get into all the CD singles in this video. I'll have to do a part 2 at some point!

Thanks Sam. Absolutely there'll be another Squeeze video at some point...maybe a deep cuts one or something.

Cheers Matt. Would you believe I've never owned a copy of the Squeeze Story CD. Shocking!

Hey J. Good seeing you. Great overview of the b sides. Cool band.
Cheers Ben, hope you are well. I barely scratched the surface here, but didn't want to start delving into the CD singles....

Oh yes, I'm definitely a b side girl!
Me too! lol

Hi, I don't know when that particular song originated. It's not mentioned in the book Squeeze - Song by Song.
Hi James glen has a great voice seen chris support Costello he had a demotion help him out with the singing.
HI George, agreed Tilbrook has great tonsils. I love his duet with Costello on Whisper to a Scream.

Good point about the live tracks. I wasn't dismissing them, just not including them because they weren't 'new' songs.

Great video, James. I’m gonna have to spin all of those Squeeze singles that you sent me now. Jo’s out so that’s my evening sorted
Cheers John. Don't forget the B-sides!
