The Pandava army had fared poorly during the first day of battle. Dhrishtadyumna, the commander-in-chief of the Pandavas, devises strategies to avoid a repetition of the first day. Bheeshma, Drona, Kripa and several other warriors shoot arrows at Arjun, but he preseveres and attacks Bheeshma's chariot. Duryadhan's men protect the grandise, but Arjun continues to fight. Bheeshma's arrows hit Arjun and Krishna. Arjun retaliates and injures Bheeshma. Satyaki kills Bheeshma's charioteer and Bheeshma's horses are left unbridled. The horses run wildly and take Bheeshma away from the battlefield. The Pandavas return to their camp in great cheer.
Mahabharat is an Indian television series based on the Hindu epic.

Lord is very merciful. To honour the vow of his devotee he himself breaks his own vow. Lord Sri Krishna had made a vow not to weild any weapon and Bhisma had made a vow that he will compel Sri Krishna to weild weapon. So to keep the honour of his devotee Bhisma , Lord himself broken his vow.

Shree Krishna says that people worship the devatās (celestial gods) as per the prescribed rituals to attain material gains. Material desires have shrouded their knowledge. Hence, they forget that the Supreme Lord is the source of all that exists, including these celestial gods. As a president of a country appoints his officers among different departments. Similarly, these celestial gods also occupy different positions in the working of God’s creation. They derive their powers from God; they are not independent of Him. They can bestow on their devotees only material things that are under their control. But cannot liberate anyone from the bondage of Maya or the cycle of birth and death because; they themselves are not liberated from this cycle. God alone has the power to do so. The celestial gods are also souls like us. However, they have attained these positions in the celestial abodes as a result of their pious deeds from previous lives. Once their account of pious deeds depletes, they have to return to earth. Hence, even the celestial gods are perishable; God alone is eternal.

पितामह भीष्म ने ठीक ही कहा था कि वो श्री कृष्ण द्वारा उन पर उनके विरूद्ध शस्त्र उठवा के की मानेंगे ओर हुआ भी ऐसा ही श्री कृष्ण ने अपना शुदर्शनः चक्र उनपे प्रहार करने के लिए उठा ही लिया था क्योंकि वो अकेले ही पांडवों की सैना के 10000 सैनिक प्रतिदिन मार रहे थे
दूसरा नजरिया ये भी हो सकता है कि अर्जुन को गीता का ज्ञान देने के उपरांत भी अर्जुन पितहमा पर अपनी पूरी शक्ति से प्रहार नहीं कर पा रहा था इसी लिए अर्जुन को फिर से जगाने के लिए उन्होंने गंगा पुत्र के विरूद्ध अपना शुदर्शनः चक्र उठा लिया था |

Needless to say that beauty of B R Chora Mahabharat, and Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana have raised standards of cinematographic arts so high, that it would be very hard for any country to exceed it. I can almost feel that Mahabharat happened, and I am living it as I watch it. I have watched it may be 20 times, since it was made, but it is so beautiful, that I keep wanting to watch it again and again. I have just one humble request. The definition of Promise is changeable at the times of need and changes of circumstances. The Promise of Bhishma was futile and unjustified, since He was stick to the same Promise given to Satyabati in changing circumstances after Panditah.He unjustifiedly pleaded for the same Promise which had given Satyabati for protection of the throne of Hastina occupied by injustified Kauravs, though he didn't support in the core of his heart to those injustices committed by Kauravs. Bhagavan Srikrushna was justified when He himself held Sudarshan to kill Bhishma for the protection of Justice when Arjuna failed to confront Bhishma due to attachments.
In the greatest epics, Mahabharata, Bhagavan Byash have left the scope of analyzing the Hardest Promise of Bhishma before the enlightened readers .
In my view Promise does not mean for evil senses. Promises is always taken for good sense. Promise is also variable and changes as per the need of circumstances. In the Holy Gita Bhagavan Srikrushna addressing Arjuna said that "Dehina' smin yatha dehe kaumaram yauvanam jara,
tatha deha' ntara praptir dhiras tratra na muhyati. 3.(

Likewise it is said that Atman(Spirit) is immortal and the body containing Atman is destructive and material. Bodily condition changes with it impetus with the changing pace of times . The relationship of Atman with every limbs of body is knowledge. At one time taken promise should be changed matching with the demands of Satya or Justice for which Atman, the part and parcel of Lord Jagannath is present in the perishable body. In the respect we should remember in mind that Bhagavan Srikrushna create man to protect and maintain Justice with new creation in justified ways, not destructive ways , otherwise Bhavan himself incarnate to protect justice . So He told Arjuna in IV. 7/8 of GEETA in the following lines,
Whereever there is
Decline of righteousness,
I incarnate myself
To protect the virtuous
And to destroy the wicked,
From age to Age.
Under such circumstances the Promise of Vishma is futile on the ground of it was seemed to protect the wicked characters from beginning to end. To kill Such Bhishma was seen by Bhagavan Srikrushna was justified by vital when He found that Arjuna failed to do so due to Attachments to Bhishma, for which righteous soldiers of Pandavs were at peril.
All the character are played sooooo well......
Especially, Pitamha, Karna, Krsna, Arjuna, Bidur, Sanjay ......are so good.
The negative characters (eg. Dhritarashtra, Duryodhana, ..) are also played very well
Draupadi, Kunti, Gandhari......these female characters undoubtedly played very well

That's why, many kourav warriors tried to kill Krishna(charioteer of Arjun). But it's duty of Arjun to protect his charioteer. So most of them failed to kill him.

And plus, the arrows hit Krishna’s elbows. Not his chest or stomach because, that would be fatal. Don’t you think that Bhishma was capable of piercing someone in the chest with an arrow? Yes! He was! The reason why Bhishma didn’t try to kill Krishna was because he didn’t want to bear the sin of killing such a pure entity.
