Perfect! So glad I found your channel. This is so inspiring to watch. My dad is 98 and was trained as a cabinet maker. He apprenticed when he was 13. I grew up watching and helping him do all sorts of wood work. I am the fifth generation of wood workers in my family, although I don’t do wood work professionally. For me it is only a hobby. Thanks for sharing your work with us. Your level of workmanship is fast becoming extinct. I am glad documenting it with filming like this can keep it alive. Thanks again.
I'm sorry but I don't agree with you. I don't think this craft is fast becoming extinct. I see more and more people both restoring and upcycling old pieces of furniture. This has increased alot over the last fews years, and especially so during Covid lockdowns. With so many sitting around with so much time on their hands, they looked around trying to find things to do. And a new group of restorers have been born. Whether they restore, upcycle, refurbish or repurpose, it's a wonderful thing. Giving old furniture a new lease of life is better for the planet, than throwing it away to buy new pieces.
Congratulations to you to have such a old dad, I hope he’s in good health! I’m also fascinated by wood work but didn’t have the opportunity to test it yet. What profession did you choose? And did you pass on some of your knowledge to your kids? Cheers :)
@@verasreckovic4443 That is true, too. But per numbers, more and more things are made on production lines these days. You would most likely not be able to survive today as a carpenter using hand tools alone.
This restoration is a mix of old world and modern techniques and more than a little humor. A great save as well. The use of animal glue (we guess rabbit skin) sawdust and pigment (guessing again carbon black) and the final finish of wax is the old world part. Some of this craftman's tools are to enough to make any one envious. Power tools for efficiency and hand tools for fine points. Great thought went into the videography with no promotion or infomercial additions. Danke!

I have a couple simple suggestions for you to try out in the future if you're up for it. While this walnut is beautiful as is, its natural beauty can be enhanced even more. First, when left completely sanded out like this all of its depth is removed since the rich patina that develops from age is actually very very thin. You can knock out that rawness and increase its patina with an application of potassium dichromate. Comes in powder form, just mix with water. It's very simple and you can do as many applications as you want, just apply and let dry and you'll see the results within minutes. Works very well also to match up a new piece of wood inserted into an old piece that you haven't sanded all the patina out of. Second tip is before you apply any coating, be it wax or whatever, apply a very thin diluted dewaxed shellac to the wood and let dry (1 or 2 campaigns is up to you). You're not trying to build any film coating on top, you're going to use the shellac because it is a low molecular weight material and it will sink deep into the fibers and pop the chatoyancy in a way that wax alone will never do. Experiment on some scraps and have fun!

Hello from the Oberbergisches in Germany. 😊 Yes. I will put a restoration / refurbishment online every month. The next one is in 1.5 - 2 weeks. Regards

Gorgeous work! 💯
Thanks. Sorry
Another breathtaking piece! The grain in the wood is so beautiful ❤️
You really are a master craftsman.
Thanks once again.
That was a beautiful restoration. I rewatched parts because this felt like a master class.
That makes me happy. Many Thanks
All that hard work, and then, you don’t ruin the look by staining bits or all, with some random colour. Just love the grains, some of the best I’ve seen. The beeswax not only does such a beautiful job, it smells divine too. Great work, nice video.
😊
Hello from Texas! So interesting! It’s so enjoyable to see a talented craftsman. I hope to see more of your videos.
Hello from the Oberbergisches in Germany. 😊 Yes. I will put a restoration / refurbishment online every month. The next one is in 1.5 - 2 weeks. Regards
Wow! Just Wow! Amazing restoration.so beautiful.
😀
Beautiful thank you for saving this wonderful piece for future generations! 👍🏼👍🏼🍀🍀🍀❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸
Many Thanks. 😊😊😊
I loves his restoration in dramatic silence way. Don’t need his voice. His dramatic silence is best ever! I loves his body language showing through
Many Thanks :-)
Such beautiful wood! You did a wonderful job. I love the natural wax finish showing off the wonderful grain and color in this wood.
😀
