My husband introduced me to this song not long after we met in December of 2010. He would regularly play it to me, telling me he was the luckiest. We were married on 31.3.18, this was our first dance wedding song. Sadly he gained his angel wings aged just 55 on 9.2.22 and I've been drawn to listen to this tonight, and many other versions of it. I truly was the luckiest to be his wife and to call him my soulmate and partner. Love you and miss CJP!

I'm sorry for your loss. In a similar circumstance, last year (3/18/2023) This song was on our wedding playlist. After almost 36 years together, I finally married my best friend. It was the happiest day of our lives, with all of our guests being restricted to our extended families. I was the luckiest. Six weeks later, my beloved didn't wake up, having suffered a fatal cardiac event in his sleep. I will always do my best to remind myself that I am the luckiest.

I know this song is meant for couples, but I have dedicated it to my beautiful son who is 6 months old.

I did a baby video for my 1st daughter's bday. Pictures from when I found out I'm pregnant until she turned 1.That was 15 years ago.I always cry on that song and my daughter too because represents our love for one another.

This song has been a part of my life for almost 20 years. My father died when I was only 11, it was devastating. Something about this song struck a chord in my grieving childs heart. I've listened to it many times with tears on my cheeks. As I grow older it takes on different meanings. Meeting my wife, having children, and finally this past week my grandfather passed away in his 90's. I came back to listen again and let the clean emotion wash my tears away. Thank you Mr. Folds.

I lost my father when I was 16. I feel the same way. Maybe it's the kind of broken and wonderfully ridiculous way this song approaches love and mortality; it just speaks to us.

I grew up with a brother who is a prodigy first time I heard this song was at one of his shows called piano men he played songs from who gave and gives him inspiration and I have loved this song ever since thanks Mr fold for giving us great music
I discovered this album when you performed that a capella version of Not the Same on The Sing Off. My wife and I were about to get married, and we then checked out the album on RUclips, and decided that this song was going to be our first dance. The album is still in our car to listen to whenever we drive together.
Today is my 21st anniversary with my wife. My 1st without her, as she passed away shortly after our 20th anniversary last year of brain cancer. This was our wedding song. And it encompasses everything that she was to me. If only i could have just stayed a couple of days and passed away…but life doesn’t always work like that.

I do not know what happened this very moment that I got awashed with gratefulness for my current partner. I never experienced this kind of love from my past relationships. She has been the most amazing supporter of all sorts, especially during (most) times that I lose confidence in myself. This song came to me as I kept muttering “I’m so lucky. A lot of people criticize Ben's singing voice. I'd think even Ben would agree he's far from the best singer. But neither is Bob Dylan or Tom Waits. Like Dylan and Waits Ben is a good song writer and passionate about his craft and that makes up for any shortcomings in his singing abilities.
I honestly like his singing voice, even if it isn't amazing. He's got a unique voice.

When I was a teen I had a close friend. I played bass and he played piano!
In 2002 I was in the AF and had gotten married a year earlier, but had to leave my wife back in the states for a remote assignment in Korea. I made a mix CD for her before I left and gave it to her to play on the way home after she dropped me off at the airport. This was the first song. I didn’t talk to her for a few days until I got settled in Korea, but she said she listened to it on the way home and had to pull over cause she was crying so bad. This likely saved my marriage.

The original is an absolutely gorgeous recording of one of my favorite songs. It hurts me to say, but this performance comes off like a guy who's played this song too many times and doesn't feel it anymore. It's over compensated with an intrusive orchestral arrangement and they all seem like they're going through the motions.
Do listen to the recent rendition by Kenton Chen and the enchantment will come back to you, I'm sure.👍

Fun fact (well not really but I'm feeling mischevious) - Perth in Australia is named after Perth in Scotland, and the old version of that was "Peart", which was the surname of the best drummer ever Neil Peart [Rush] ... and Ben studied drums at college if I remember correctly :) I'm sure he must've liked a bit of Rush, or respected it, given his fun early stuff.
