- The second piece of my renaissance rackett collection. The rackett has always been one of my favourite renaissance instruments, and it's a shame its use declined so vastly into the Baroque era and beyond. Lately though, the rackett has seen a slight renaissance. :)
This needs more views....forgotten music...
The sound of the rackett, especially the deeper notes, is similar to that of a sawtooth wave, so I can see why one might liken this to 8-bit music.
If anyone's trying to find this piece in Terpsichore, it's pieces 152 & 154 (or LCII & LCIV, as it's written). This recording is played as 152, then 154, then 152 with no repeats, and generally the soprano voices improvises on repeats
This has got to be my favorite piece from the compilation...
It's called Tanz der Fischer & Tanz der Bauerinnen, and it's from Michael Praetorius' Terpsichore, from 1612.
Do you know what number the piece is in Terpsichore? I can't find the piece in the book
Edit: Found it
WOW I finally found what this thing is called! And I've actually heard all of these recordings before but just thought that wonderful drone was just a big shawm or crumhorn type thing. What an awesome instrument...the complexity of instruments like this and the hurdy-gurdy make modern instruments look primitive.
had a feeling it was Praetorius's work. Most probably are. Refreshing to hear something rare, with history.
I love these things. They're like that one B movie that is pretty terrible but you love it with all your heart anyway.
I couldn't say from what time the rackett on the picture is. I just searched on google and found it, so I guess it could be baroque. ;)
Um, no.
I was talking about a CD album. This is still the rackett, or I wouldn't call it rackett collection now, would I?
Prachtig!!!
gesundheit! X3
What's the title of this piece? It's got a few bars straight out of "Grimstock" starting about 00:31, but I don't recognize the rest of it.
grimstock :D
