Thanks for the video. Excellent tips on using it. It is a great coating for both surfaces. I found that even on older trim that has been restored it tends to have that appearance mentioned on trim as it ages. From my experience it lasts longer on wheels with a second layer.
This is kinda scary. I've been using DLUX on all my new cars and have never had an issue but now I'll be wondering if I should whenever I get another car. It just makes the plastic look so much better, even on new car. Darker and richer, of course easier to keep clean as well.
I know, it looks Sooooooo good!! We are planning to do an update where we show how you would fix it if that worst case scenario ever happens... Hint: It involves a pressure washer and a lot of patience but I have had 2 customers that have done it successfully.
@@curtisbender1945 Hi Curtis, we haven't found a good subject to do a video on but basically you use a pressure washer and a 45 tip from close range to slowly peel the coating off. It is time consuming.

All coatings will last differently depending on how much is left in the bottle. But a good average is just shy of 6 months if there is still half the product left in the bottle and it is stored in a dry cool place. Less product in the bottle will go bad faster.
Questions here. I have some flux that I used about 5 months ago. Is the unused product still good? For new plastics, how long does the plastic need to be installed before it’s not considered new anymore? I added some splash guards about 5 months ago as well and I’d like to coat it. On textured plastic, is there a way to re-prep it to add a new coat on that plastic? This is all on a 21 crosstrek all Subaru branded parts.
Yes, it is still good but I would use ASAP. Once opened I generally figure 6 months life max. On textured plastic there is really no way to remove the old coating to apply another coat in future. Best you can do to prep is wash real good with a strong APC. I would clean it with Retyre and that should do it. Then Eraser and dry and let sit 30 minutes before coating.
I am a little undewhelmed with it, on trim yes, its very good, but on my wheels wich i coated with a double layer after just 2-3 months the coating is super clogged - i wash them weekly, sometimes a full wash with pressure sometimes rinsless (as i have a communal garage) i always wash my car and my wheels with DI water so there should be no mineral buildup - also they are my summer tires so they dont see rain (i dont drive in the rain, its my special car), on my weekly maintenace i use BH Surfex HD 1:20 and i clean them with Hurricane Wash mit, someone advised me to use a Waterspot remover but still, there should be NO mineral buildup as i use DI water. Didn't use IronX yet on them - trying to minimize rusting wich these chemicals induce (i know they remove iron buildup but used long term and often induce rusting on the calipers and rotors). So not a great customer experience as a LOT of effort went to prep these (put DLUX also on my winter wheels)
Hmmmm, that is definitely not a normal experience. I am curious to the culprit and if the IronX solves it or if it did not bond for some reason. What is the finish of your wheel?

Does it have any? I see no reference to it on the product or their web site. I want to use the product to protect a vinyl dashboard in a Mazda SP23.
Thank you! Yes, definitely has UV protection however I would advise against ceramic coatings on vinyl dashboards. They can wear or bond unevenly and there is no way to fix it if so... since you cannot polish the surface with abrasives. I would stick with a less permanent solution.
Do y’all have a surface prep video with the prep /cleaning products mentioned? Hey cory, question... is dlux slick on the plastic... i used another product on my wifes car and after it was put on the next wash i noticed wash mitt drag on the plastic... these newer suvs have all that plastic body molding that is just a pain to keep looking good...dust collection is my pet peeve at the moment. 1st world problems lol
Hey just wondering how long do I have to wait before I drive the vehicle after applying Dlux to my new rims ? Cause you know how to get a new pair of wheels and you want to go for a drive asap 😁.
Hahaha! good point :) The longer the better.... but technically you could do it within an hour... BUT if you hit mud and break dust and tar then 1 hour is not so good... If it was sunny and a short drive without hard braking and clean roads then no big deal. If you wait 12-24 hours then you should be very good. If you wanted BEST case then wait 3 days (but nobody is doing that) ;) Btw, sorry for my slow reply! Corey
I’ve been using Dlux once a year the past 5 years for my wheels and the leftover on the plastics and really like it. I know the wheels should be polished but what about the windshield cowl? Is that something that should/can be removed to apply a new coat?
As discussed in the video - there is no foolproof way to remove a ceramic from textured plastic. You cannot polish the surface so it is very difficult to remove it. If you want to completely remove a ceramic coating then a pressure washer and patience is the only way to do it. HOWEVER, if the plastic looks good then there is no reason to have to try to do that. You can simply prep it well with APC and wash, then Eraser, completely evaporate and then apply another coat if the coating wore of naturally over past 5 years.
Generally you kind of just apply it smooth and work it in until it is perfectly even in smaller sections. If it is being over-applied then I would say wipe off excess within 1 minute depending on temps.
Ive just bought brand new rear lights (plastic) for my car, and ive bought DLUX. My plan was to coat them to protect against UV. Will this be okay, and what could i give the lights a light polish with before coating, as even though theyre brand new they have swirl marks on. Thanks!
Hi Ben, GREAT question. Very important... do NOT polish new headlights or tail lights. The UV protection layer built into them new is stronger than any ceramic coating on the market. Polishing would remove that OEM protective layer. You can go ahead and just wipe them down with CARPRO Eraser and then apply the DLUX. Since they are brand new, there is no polishing needed. Best, Corey
@SkyCarCare thanks so much for the answer. Although my lights are brand new, they do have visible swirls in so i was thinking i need to do some sort of light polish (hand polish?) Just to clarify them a bit?
Ohhhh bummer! Totally understand. In that case you must polish if you want to remove the swirls. But machine is fine or by hand if you do not have machine.@@benbirch2393
Question for ya: I tried the Cerekote on my window side moldings on my 370z - the lower section ( top of door - where glass and door meet - the straight parallel section). It's held up decently - can I buy some time with an application of Dlux on top of it? I did the cerekote about 4 months ago. The main challenge is that half of it is like a hard plastic, the other half is more rubberized. I'm debating buying new ones to have stored as the 370z is nolonger in production.. it's the only black piece on the entire car that's fading faster than I'd like.
Great question, I have not played with Cerakote so not sure how that might hinder the bonding or penetration of another product but I would go with Ultima Tire & Trim Guard due to the two differing materials and its ability to play nice with all.
I purchased a vehicle that is one year old. I will be contacting the dealer to identify what type of product they used on the plastic trim. Would you caution against using the DLUX on a one year old vehicle?
Hi Michele, that depends. I am less hesitant to use ceramic coatings on it after a year has passed but it is still a use at your own risk scenario if it is textured plastic and cannot be polished.
Just a matter of if you want to take the risk or not. If you go to the CQUARTZ Dlux product on our website and read the description it will explain in detail near the bottom of the page.
On polished aluminum I have not seen any coating stop it from oxidizing. It seem the moisture still reaches or is absorbed into the aluminum and it can discolor under the coating. I would recommend using the Ultima Aluminum Guard Bundle from our site for this and just do it once or twice a year
So Dlux is suited perfectly for headlights! Reload can be used an hour after. Life range of an open bottle varies depending on how much is left. Usually on a 30ml bottle that is half full, you have a few months to use the rest of that product.
@@vincentt8764 Great question! I considered mentioning that if you can NOT do it in less that 90 minutes then waiting a full day is best. If you do it after 90 minutes and before 6 hours then you have a area in there somewhere where it just interrupts the first coat and messes it up. Basically it is turning from a liquid to a gel and then a gel to a solid. Once it is a gel, it should not be interrupted until a solid.
