- In this week's macro photography tutorial I show how easy it is to create striking, professional-looking product images using macro skills from the comfort of home. I show how getting up close allows you to find amazing images in the small details on everyday household products, from boots and vacuum cleaners to mini heaters and headphones.
I also demonstrate how using a small, handheld LED light and softbox can transform the look of your macro photos by letting you carve out shadows and shape.
The LED light I show is the Smallrig RC60B: amzn.to/49qIGeC (affiliate link)
The mini, collapsible softbox for the RC60B: amzn.to/49z73Hh (affiliate link)
If you're looking for easy macro ideas and inspiration, turning your macro lens onto products around your house is a great way to polish up your skills and maybe even launch your product photography career!

I couldn't help noticing your guitar in the background. That would also make for some interesting shots don't you think?
I was thinking the same.
Thank you Andrew. You’re a great inspiration. I’ll definitely give this a go. I have just bought a small Nikon flash (SB-400) and wondered if there are any soft boxes that it would fit into. Any ideas please? Many thanks. Keep up the good work.
Andrew, I’m looking at having a go at this type of photography, a question if I may, do you have any recommendations for a cheaper light, just so I can see if I enjoy this style of photography. Thanks and happy Easter, Nick
Another great video, thanks. I am stuck at home waiting for back surgery so macro is what all I am doing at the moment and loving it.
Thanks Bryn, sorry to hear about your back but I hope you're managing to stay creative at home!
And i love macro photography too, but can do you make content about macro photography is different from underwater or pool water, so wish to see you swimming and make some photography in pool water😁
great video, pity the handheld light is so expensive, if you have any tips on more affordable handheld light would be great, thanks
Andrew, which continious light would you recommend to buy for product photography?
Thank you Andrew for showing us how to walk around the home and take our ordinary house hold objects and practice the art of macro photography.
I am blown away at how you can make the most mundane things look so beautiful ✨
Thanks, you're very kind!
@@AndrewLanxonPhotographycan do you make a content macro photography differrent place like in pool water, i wish to see you swimming and photography in poop water😁
Is the RC 60B your recommendation for the best continuous light source for macro, or are there other options that you would suggest I look at? I have the AD200pro and MagSphere, which I love, but I learned that I can't use the focus bracketing feature on the R5 with the flash simultaneously. Long story short, I'm looking for the best continuous lighting source for macro photos of flowers etc. Thanks!
Thanks for watching. I think it's a great light if you need a bit more power from your LED. The battery life is quite short, but you can run it off a USB C plug at home or attach a power bank if you're outside. The Zhiyun Fiveray M40 LED (linked in description) is a great smaller LED panel which is much easier to slide into your kit bag.
Thanks for the feedback! I'm going to try the RC 60B for the home studio I think. I have the new Aputure MC Pros and the MC Pro Tube, but I'm just not getting the power or the directional light that I'm looking for to create moody shadows.
I think the biggest takeaway from this video - Dyson make earphones? Really? ;-) Great video as usual, love your stuff 🙂
Thanks for this nice, clear and inspiring video Andrew! 👍
Is it possible you do something simular with beer? Bottles and glasses filled with beer?
I think it is quite complicated because of all the reflections in the glass…
So maybe you can help us how to deal with that when not having a studio so this products will be photographed in a normal house…
Thanks in advance 🙏
I recently tried this. it's great fun 🙂
Andrew, i am brand new to photography and I am struggling with lighting for macro/product shots on reflective surfaces. Is there a way to pay to reach out and get a detailed way I should progress and items needed
Simply AWESOME Stuff Mr.Andrew Lanxon!😎
Great stuff again Andrew and I love the new lighting ideas and occasional different gear you use.
Thanks Warren, much appreciated!
Nice shots but really wanted to blow that hair away on the Dyson shot!!
If only there were some kind of blowing device to blow dust away 😄
Can you do a video for the editing process, e.g. blending and photo stacking
Great stuff as always Andrew! Can you please link or let us know the mini Octabox that you used?
Thank! The link to both the light and softbox are in the video description. Enjoy!
@@AndrewLanxonPhotographySo sorry I missed it. Thanks so much again!
You didn't, I forgot to put it in, so thank YOU for reminding me! 👏

Excellent content 👍🏻
Thank you 🙌
excellent !
You make it look so easy!
I love the various ideas you come up with for macro. Motivated me to grab some items in my home. What brand as the soft box. It looks different from the square one linked in your list of items.
Thanks for watching! The softbox is a specific Smallrig one designed to work with this light and is linked in the description below the light.
