Thanks for the video! It was the inspiration for making my own. I was going to use a discarded salad dressing container from a restaurant as it had a 1 gal capacity but ended up finding an igloo water cooler at Walmart for $10. It has a 2 gal capacity and has built in interior ribs. I had most of the parts but decided to incorporate inexpensive flange bearings from my tractor supply at around $3.50 per. That way I don't have to worry about heat buildup. I would be happy to share my design. Thanks again for the inspiration!
Just watched both videos on this tumbler, and I must say you have some great ideas, sir. I'm in the brainstorming process of building one myself, and as some others have commented, I too was overthinking a few things. Appreciate you taking the time to share this with us.
You can buy plastic trim boards at home improvement stores. Not delron plastic but it should work well for bearing material. I used it on my tumbler. I use a spring to apply tension for the drive roller against the wheel. Fasten one end to motor mount and other end to bolt in wood platform. Works well. Can get springs at hardware store.
In place of the Delrin if you can't find it, try a cheap plastic cutting board from Walmart. Probably 1 would build 10 of these tumblers. Even better would be to use roller blade bearings or similar and buy rods to fit those. These are very cheap on Ebay or Amazon.
Walmart cutting board is same as delrin. Couple bucks gets you plenty of slidie stuff for diy projects. Make funnels like yours all the time. You work with your head instead of your wallet, like that.
Hello, How many RPM’s is your motor? I am having trouble trying to decide how big a motor I should get. There are quite a few 12volt DC worm motors on eBay and the RPM’s for them vary from 6 to 150. I was even thinking about a blender motor but that might be too fast even on slow. I have most of the stuff I build my tumbler with in storage and will take hours to find it. Thanks for any advice you could give.
My motor is 1725 RPM, of course it is geared down for the tumbling process. Mor information can be found on the original video, ruclips.net/video/P9idmEURAdI/видео.html Good luck with your build.
+Al Gagne I go to EBay and search for "scroll saw motor" here is an example of one I found there. www.ebay.com/itm/CENTRAL-MACHINERY-SCROLL-SAW-MOTOR-w-SWITCH-Model-696-15-SCROLL-SAW-/201548772403?hash=item2eed3e3433:g:L98AAOSwHxVW6389
Have you had any problems with the pasta sauce container?? Because I just built a tumbler using your design and it works great. I didnt have motor like yours, so my brother gave a 12 volt DC motor. But other than that it is pretty much your design. But the container I got(which it the pasta sauce jar) the shoulder seems to be weak and after just 30 minutes, it is buckling and leaking. Any tips you have would be awesome.
I just measured the thickness of the plastic jugs I use. The Wal-mart applesauce (48 ounce) plastic jug is 0.030 of an inch thick. The Prego jug (67 ounce) is 0.028 of an inch thick. The Ragu jug (67 ounce) is 0.048 of an inch thick. These jugs show very little signs of wear. Measure the thickness of the jug to see if it is to thin. If your jug's thickness is okay is it rubbing against any abrasive surfaces?
NotAnExpert The thickness is the same as yours. I think the problem is that the plastic layers started to separate from each other and that weakened the plastic. But I am going to try a old walmart paint can. I cut off the holders on the sides and using marine grade epoxy gluing in some fins. I think that might work. If you want I will let you know how it goes. And thanks again for the tips and the design.
SamLFisher I have seen the plastic separate many times on plastic Ketchup bottles but none of my jugs that I use have shown any signs of separating. What brand of pasta sauce were you using to polish brass (that sure sounds like an odd question)? Yes let me know how the paint can works.
NotAnExpert It was the Prego sauce just like you got. Maybe I just happened to get a defected one. But I think when the epoxy dries, the paint can might even be better.
SamLFisher I went to a web site for plastic defects and found: "Delamination: When the surface of a finished part separates or appears to be composed of layers. Strata or fish-scale-type appearance where the layers may be separated." I would say you had a defective plastic jug. So if the paint can does not work buy pasta sauce at a different store and check for delamination by pushing your thumb hard into the plastic near the lid before you buy it.
you could possibly get an old downhill ski from a thrift store and cut the bearings out of them. i thing the material would be strong enough and wilould be defianetly slick enough. it could be waxed if needed to be.

Would like to see your design.

Thank you for all your videos they are very helpful. You have not uploaded in a long time. I hope you are doing well.

You can get cutting board at Walmart for peanuts for these bearing pieces
Where did you get the motor for this build? Having a hard time finding a motor that will spin slow enough....

Ebay has them "Delrin Blocks" fairly cheap

where did you get the motors?
I found them on EBay. They are replacement motors for scroll saws.

I was just looking on ebay and found that you can get 8 skateboard bearings for 5 dollars (shipping included) so those might be a possibility also.
Why use such a large motor?
This motor was the smallest that I could find on Ebay that was affordable. I could find a smaller motor on Ebay but it was twice the price.
go to a flea market , or check a swap and shop or yard sale and buy an ice cream maker, cost you $20 or less , works fantastic, problem solved
vinegar is way better then lemi shine.
