The Greek name for Palestine is Palaistínē. The term was first used by the Greek historian Herodotus in the 5th century BCE to describe the coastal strip between Phoenicia and Egypt, which is now known as the Land of Israel.
The Philistenes were there in 700 BCE so yeah, he probably was referring to these former Philistene cities that were also Greek. Doesn't make it an Arab state.

One correction to the story, no one except the Romans approved the name "Palestine" for this area since then, no one actually called it by that name. All the conquering nations would give the region their own name. [Canaan, Land of Israel, Judea, Coele-Syria, Kingdom of Israel, Kingdom of Jerusalem, Retenu,...]. Including the Ottomans who gave this area the name of "Mutasarrifate of Jerusalem" until 1917. It was the British who divided the area and decided to call it Palestine again like the Romans, to differentiate the area from a larger area. (There were references to this name, but no one really used it until 1917)
I have great respect for you Simcha, because long ago, my mother worked with you in CAEJ (Canadian Association for Ethiopian Jews)... but then the IDF stationed me near Bir Yaqub, Nablus. One correction to the story, no one except the Romans approved the name "Palestine" for this area since then, no one actually called it by that name. All the conquering nations would give the region their own name. [Canaan, Land of Israel, Judea, Coele-Syria, Kingdom of Israel, Kingdom of Jerusalem, Retenu,...]. Including the Ottomans who gave this area the name of "Mutasarrifate of Jerusalem" until 1917. It was the British who divided the area and decided to call it Palestine again like the Romans, to differentiate the area from a larger area. (There were references to this name, but no one really used it until 1917)
