      @William Burns Ooh! Me too!! Now we have multiple attestations!! My "vision" was an auditory hallucination only as I was blinded by the LORD'S awesome-itude. As such, I couldn't quite tell whether he was saying *she* was a mongoloid who molested children or if she molested mongoloid children. So you pick one, I'll pick the other and then we can say multiple attestation from vastly different religions converge on this one truth. That Perla Mohilewer is a molester. The differing details only prove the core TRUTH. Amen.

    I'm a big fan of Richard Carrier, but it's pretty disingenuous of him to say that Greek and Roman citizenship was purely secular. In the Greek city-states, a citizen had to participate in their city's state cult or be convicted of "atheism" or impiety", the same charges that got Socrates executed. Similarly, in the Roman Empire, all Roman citizens and subjects were required to offer sacrifice to the Roman Imperial Cult; this was one of the causes of the Jewish-Roman Wars, since Jews did not want to participate in their cult of the emperor.

    • @nycbearff
      @nycbearff 2 года назад +1

      The requirements of the city may have included religious practices, but the concept itself is secular. Citizenship is not something promoted by any religion, it was promoted as an organizational philosophy.

    your correct in your observation of the doctrine of "assembly" first being established in the Bill of Rights, however, it was introduced to the convention for consideration by Virginia, wherein it was stated that "that the people have a right peaceably to assemble together to consult for the common good"........ that's where it came from..... Virginia....

    The men who founded this country were well educated on the ancient Greek and Roman literature. They used that knowledge when they gave great thought about how to set up our constitution. Wish they had been a bit more clear in some of the language though as the theocrats have taken advantage of some of the more vague things and forced interpretations that run counter to the original intent.

      "the time of Jesus" means a certain period, it makes no claim for the historicity of Jesus. Like "The time of "Pride and Prejudice"" means a certain period of British history, but does not make a claim that "Pride and Prejudice" was a true story.

I dont agree with everything Carrier says but I still find so many of the details he points out to indicate it is just another myth that has been historicized as worshipped as truth just like all other religions. Based on the reading I have done, there is only a slight possability that jesus was based on several teachers and holey men from their past and not a single man. The fact that the birth date, death day and the resurection days are just guesses shows that no one really saw these things happen as the Jewish people were obsessed with days and numbers yet they never recorded any of these details. Seems intentionally vague and this along with the fact that they waited a generation to start writing anything down, showes that it is myth and not an actual event.

When ever someone finds a new way to look at the data and rehashes all the older studies using the latest evidence, there are always many who still stick to the consensus (big word that means what most people accept as right). When you consider that over 90% of all biblical scholars are christians working at religious institutions, most of which require said biblical scholars to sign their "Statement of Faith" just to be employed by them, then they are biased and will try to ignore anything that does not fit their pay check required beliefs. Once theories contrary to the consensus have been arround and confirmed for years some of the scholars will admit it has merrit but the ones that value their jobs hold onto the now proven wrong old beliefs and religion marches on misinforming believers like you. @AV BulletCatcher CARRIER TELLS US HE IS A HISTORIAN YEA? HERE IS JUST A FEW REASON WHY HE ISN'T. FIRST THE N.T. I.E. THE NEW TESTAMENT CLAIMS THAT THE PERSON JESUS WAS LIVING IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE FIRST CENTURY. CARRIER CLAIMS JESUS WAS A MYTH MADE UP MUCH LATER. CORRECT? SO WHAT DOES THE N.T. SAY ABOUT JESUS? HE WAS A ORTHODOX RABBI RELATED TO JOHN THE BAPTIST, JAMES THE LESS, AND WAS EXECUTED BY THE ROMANS ON THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE HIGH PRIEST OF THE TEMPLE FOR TREASON. THAT JESUS' FOLLOWERS STARTED A RELIGION THAT LATER (ABOUT 60 AD) WAS CALLED CHRISTIANITY..OK SO FAR? SO THERE ARE SEVERAL WAYS TO CONFIRM THAT JESUS WAS A REAL PERSON AND WHEN JESUS LIVED. A REAL HISTORIAN WOULD HAVE STUDIED THE NEW TESTAMENT AND WHAT HAPPENED IN THE FIRST CENTURY AND HONESTLY REPORTED. HOWEVER CARRIER IGNORES THESE ELEMENTS BECAUSE THEY POINT AWAY FROM HIS AGENDA BASED FALSE CLAIMS. CARRIER CLAIMS THE NAME JESUS, A GREEK NAME WAS USED BECAUSE HE WAS A MYTH CREATED BY HELENISTIC JEWS IN THE SECOND CENTURY OR LATER. HE ALSO CLAIMS THEIR ARE NO RECORDS OF JESUS IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE FIRST CENTURY BECAUSE HE NEVER LIVED. FURTHER MORE HE CLAIMS THE GOSPELS ARE ALL MADE UP IN THE SECOND CENTURY BECAUSE WE HAVE NONE IN THE TIME OF JESUS THUS THEY WERE ALL CREATED MUCH LATER. THAT THE LETTERS OF PAUL WERE ALL WRITTEN BY OTHERS THUS WERE FAKE . HOWEVER THESE ARE ALL FALSE RED HERRINGS. FIRST IF JESUS WAS AN ORTHODOX JEWISH RABBI AS THE N.T. CLAIMS HIS NAME/TITLE WOULD BE YESHUA BEN JOSEPH. NOT JESUS. THEREFORE IF ANYONE DID FIND A REFERENCE TO HIM THEY MIGHT NOT RECOGNIZE IT. IF HE WAS A JEWISH RABBI AND EXECUTED BY THE ROMANS HE WOULD NOT BE MENTIONED BY HISTORIANS UNLESS HE BECAME VERY FAMOUS DUE TO A LARGE FOLLOWING WHO WAS A THREAT TO ROME.. THIS DID OF COURSE HAPPEN BUT NOT IN HIS LIFETIME. THERE ARE NO JEWISH RABBIS MENTIONED BY THE ROMANS ANYWHERE SO WHY SHOULD YESHUA/JESUS BE ANY DIFFERENT? CRIMINALS ARE NEVER MENTIONED EITHER SO WE SHOULD NOT EXPECT TO FIND JESUS NAME ANYWHERE. BUT MOST OBVIOUS IS THAT ALL RECORDS OF JEWS AND THE FOLLOWERS OF YESHUA/JESUS IN JERUSALEM WERE DESTROYED DURING THE INVASION OF THE ROMAN ARMY IN 60-70S AD. THEREFORE WHEN CARRIER ALLEGED THAT WE HAVE PROOF JESUS WAS NOT ALIVE DUE TO LACK OF RECORDS HE IS HOPING HIS AUDIENCE IS IGNORANT OF HISTORY....HE IS NOT A HONEST SCHOLAR THE REASON THE GOSPELS WERE WRITTEN LATTER IS BECAUSE MOST OF ALL THE RECORDS WERE DESTROYED THUS IT EXPLAINS WHY THEY ARE MOSTLY FROM ORAL SOURCES AND A FEW WRITTEN PARTS PUT TOGETHER AFTER THE PERSECUTIONS WERE OVER. HENCE THEY HAVE ERRORS. THEY WERE PUT TOGETHER WHEN THE CHRISTIANS SEPARATED THEMSELVES FROM ORTHODOX JEWISH GROUPS. AS TO NOT GET FURTHER ATTACKED BY ROME. HENCE THE GOSPELS USE TERMINOLOGY WHICH IS CLEARLY GENTILE INCLUDING USING THE GREEK NAME JESUS. BUT HOW DO WE KNOW JESUS WAS A JEWISH RABBI OF THE FIRST CENTURY? SEE PART TWO

      @jeanetteyork2582 5 лет назад +3

      I agree w/Mr Grimaldi...do you have evidence for your claims?
      I once saw an amusing billboard...it had a great big picture of a bible (which version is anyone's guess)...underneath it were three words: "True. Absolute. Final." It is so hard to suppress a gale of laughter at seeing such a thing. The arrogance and ignorance of that billboard's sponsors must have been enormous.
      I've studied religion for 30+ years as an amateur student...so far not a shred of evidence has come to light to support those words on the billboard. The bible is literature...talk put to paper...not evidence for anything...except that many men (sic*) had great religious imaginations and political ambitions many years ago.
      Christianity like all religions is talk, money, talk, money, more talk, getting even more money which causes more talk ...ad nauseum.
      The bible proves only one thing...some years ago some people wrote a big book which was composed of other books. Many books under consideration for inclusion in the big book were thrown out. How do we know they threw out the "right" ones? How do you know?
      For more info see:
      The Lost Bible by J. R. Porter
      Among the "lost" books are:
      Creation of the Angels
      First Book of Enoch (did you know the angels took Enoch on a tour of the cosmos? Wonder if he had a good space suit? It gets richer. Did you know that Jerusalem is the center of the earth according to this book?)
      Life of Adam and Eve
      The Apocalypse of Abraham
      The Testament of Moses
      The Sibylline Oracles
      Odes of Solomon
      Fourth Book of the Maccabees
      ....&etc.
      So why weren't these and many other books not chosen for the new religion? Interesting question to ask.
      *These works are all by men as the "covenant" was made only between Jewish men and their deity. Women were not a part of Judaism by definition.
      Also the Jews forbade women to learn how to read and write for many generations.
      PS...personally...I feel the whole biblical effort had to be a put up job for another reason.... In the entire thing...in every version of every bible out there, from the JW to Mormon to KJ Version and many more...there's not a bit of humor. Humor is part of life. But when you're writing propaganda, humor is your enemy. If it were real, true, absolute and final...it would have had at least a taste of humor...in my opinion.
      Sorry forgot to add....I've read the JW, Mormon, KJV, CCC and Catholic bibles. You suggested I read "the" bible...which one did you mean? I've read a few.

      @@jeanetteyork2582 I commend you on all your studies and research. The person who made that post is just another believer who has been hand fed "bumper sticker slogans" from the pulpit. The reason the religious are pushing so hard to have their debunked pseudo science taught to children in schools is to make them to accept it so they can re-enforce the delusion the rest of their life. The give respect and authority to any random human who calls themselves a preacher, prophet, holy man, priest or whatever without any test to see if they are psychotic, a killer or even a pedophile. Christopher Hitchens said it best "give someone the title of reverand or father or preacher and there is nothing they cant get away with" . All these believers need to explain why god keeps letting perverts, liars and conmen lead his sheep and why with his supposed knowledge of the future he did not give his followers any better way to find out which ones are the real "men of god" and the charlatins fleecing the flock. Even when they get caught in a sex scandal, molesting children, stealing donations or all the other headlines we see everyday, they still retain many of their followers and rebuild their "congregation". 4000 years and all the evidence for god comes down to " I had an experience" and nothing more. Religion is an indicator of how badly the human mind is put to gether, the funniest thing is believers think that a perfect god used "intelligent design" to build their easily deceived brain
