    10 tips for anyone starting out (and somethings I wanted to correct that I saw in the video which he may have already covered but I wanted to type this out before I forget).
    1. Build =/= Height.
    2. You can inspect a person to bring up a file to see what they look like (the person MATN shined the flashlight at might not of had blue eyes, it was likely their glasses that made it look blue).
    3. If you dont mind being loud, you can sprint into a door and time a click to force it open. It may take several tries though.
    4. Sometimes you can find keys beneath door mats.
    5. Important places to check are bedside tables and any drawers in them and closet spaces which may contain a box with information about their workplace or places they visit.
    6. While the above locations are important to check, if you have the time LOOK THROUGH EVERYTHING! do not leave a drawer unopened.
    7. Cameras suck at seeing in the dark, turn off the lights and you may not even need to touch the breaker box.
    8. If a something that is written on the wall at a crime scene is blocked, check a newspaper and it will likely tell you what was on the wall (also can reveal things you may have missed).
    9. Not all murders are personal, some murders may have zero connection to their victim and are doing it because they are a criminal lunatic.
    10. If all you have is a phone number on a target, you can call the number and then check the call logs which are usually located in either a basement or shed. the call log will show a general address which can narrow down your search.
    Bonus: don't know if this has any purpose in game or not but if you spam knock on a door it will get progressively louder until it sounds like your about to break it down. just thought it was funny.
    Edit - Additional tips after watching more of the video:
    11. Apartments can be decorated if you access your inventory, there should be a button that allows you to purchase furniture.
    12. Ask people who work or live near the crime scene, chances are they saw a suspicious person and can give you an additional descriptor or direction they were headed.
    13. Check the front door for finger prints, if they match ones found at a crime scene it could very well mean that the murder is a neighbor or roommate/partner of the victim.
    14. Clicking on a highlightable phonenumber or passcode whilst looking at a phone or safe automatically inputs said phone number or passcode so you dont need to manually type it.
    15. Most citizens will have an address book which contains the names and addresses of people the citizen are in contact with the most often (Number of addresses can vary wildly).
    16. Workplaces contain employee files, all of which show the employees fingerprints.
    17. Not every place will try to kill you if you are caught tresspassing, some will give you a chance to leave if you dont do anything illegal in front of them.

      You can check security footage too, but it only goes back 24 hours in game.

    • @maelie314
      @maelie314 Год назад +22

      Also, fingerprints don't last forever, either, they fade over time (not exactly sure of the time frame). It's quite possible to fail to solve a case and have the evidence disappear. Then you have to wait for the murderer to strike again before you can catch them!

    • @maelie314
      @maelie314 Год назад +18

      Also, if you pick something up, you can inspect it for fingerprints from your inventory. Often easier than trying use the scanner on small objects like business cards and discarded papers.

    • @irecordwithaphone1856

      @Many A True Nerd Very odd story. I saw a random NPC running across the streets and I decided to follow them. I actually was in between doing job listings. They headed to their apartment complex, still running like they were nervous or something, locked their door behind them. Like 15 seconds later, I hear gunshots inside. I lockpick the door and see that they've just shot their partner to death. I kid you not, I randomly found the murderer. I was able to solve this case faster than probably anything else in the game by sheer coincidence. The NPC was running home to shoot their partner living with them, pretty dark after I realized that
      So I ran in, handcuffed them and then later the murder case proper appeared if I remember correctly. Yes this game is a bit nuts with how deep the world simulation goes. So I didn't know they were a murderer, I just managed to find the killer live going to the murder spot because I was bored and they seemed suspicious running everywhere, it sounds absurd but that's how it happened
      I was also playing in a large city so I feel like the odds of seeing something like this must have been pretty low, but the game still includes it

    I was waiting outside a pawn shop, constantly checking if it was open to try and sell a diamond in my inventory. I saw someone running, in a hurry to get somewhere, and having nothing better to do I gave chase. They entered the building next door and went down into the basement, where they entered what looked like a shop. When I tried to follow in after them, I was apparently trespassing and the clerk shouted at me to get out. I was confused for a bit since I'd never seen a shop in a basement before - but then visions of the word 'Weapons Dealer' flashed before my eyes. The hunt was on, they ran out of the shop and I continued my spirited chase, my diamond would have to be sold another day.
    They headed up to an apartment building, which I assumed was their home. We sprinted up many, many, many flights of stairs together until we reached a hallway filled with lofty, upper-middle class apartments. They went up to a door and started opening it, so I started crouch over and over again behind them, looking over their shoulder to see what they were doing, checking my watch. "Let me in, I want to steal your shit," I whispered, still under the assumption this was their home. Finally they opened the door and sprinted inside, shutting the door in my face. I grumbled and slammed it back open, realizing something was amiss as they hadn't locked the door behind them. I saw them run into a bedroom - and then I heard a loud bang as they whipped out a gun. I heard the sounds of a scuffle and then watched as the homeowner ran into view, holding their arms behind their head and shouting in fear. Another loud shot and the corpse flopped down to the ground in the way that corpses do. I watched through the open door as I saw the murderer scrawl out their little pentagram. Then they headed out, past me, still blatantly standing in the open door. The police scanner buzzed and the familiar words 'A murder has been reported' popped up, presumably because *I* was the one who found the body. I had already slapped their photo down into my notebook, as I do with everyone I'm planning to rob blind. And, even more fortunate, they were polite enough to tell me their full name for 50cr on their way out!
    All I had to do was go down to the pub and look it up in the city directory for their home address. When they got home I was waiting there with handcuffs and a smug grin. It was the quickest case I've ever solved.
    Still had to link their fingerprints to the fucking crime scene though.

    If the devs see this I think it’d be pretty cool if the player could tell someone that the person they’re asking about was dead, and/or that they’re an investigator, maybe even use that to make it harder/easier for them to gain entry. Just cuz it felt a bit off that Jon could tell the woman her partner was killed.
    Idk if Job was having a -1 moment but if the murder weapon could be a bit more flexible that’d be cool, since I would count a vail of poison to be a murder weapon tbh.

      Come on, he had probable cause! The suspect's fingerprint was on a calling card left at the crime scene, and the murder was work-related judging from the messages left at the scene and the suspect was a coworker of the victim.
