As you know, Work = force × displacement Here, boy has to lift a mass of 5 kg upwards with a force which is equal to its weight (mg ) F = mg = 5 Kg × 10 m/s^2 = 50 N But, he displaces it to height of 150 cm = 1.5 m Hence , W = 50 N × 1.5 m = 75 Joule work done: work is said to be done when a force F acts on an object and object moves through a distance or there is displacement in the direction of the force. i.e work done =F×S work done can be zero when any of these things happen:- 1.) when the force applied is zero. 2.) when displacement is zero. 3.) if cos is 90° then work done is zero . w=FScos work is a scalar quantity, it has only magnitude not direction.
1) Force= 5N Displacement=150 cm = 1.5 m Work= Force x Displacement =7.5 J/ Nm 2) Work done is 0 when the angle between the for and the displacement is 90 degrees. 3) Work is a scalar quantity because it doesn't have distance but only magnitude. Thanks for the tutorial really helped! :)
If I'm not mistaken, you can't change KG to N. Since the given is 5 kg, you will convert it to N, where N=((kg)(m)/(s^2). And F=mg. Where you will use the gravity in this situation. W=Fd F=mg F=(5kg)(-9.81m/s^2) F=49.05N Substitute, W=(-49.05N)(1.5m) W=-73.575Nm or -73.575J
@@brenzkimseysabado1675 I do not believe the work done by the boy is a negative value since the boy lifted the book in the direction of the displacement.
