    1) Force= 5N
    Displacement=150 cm = 1.5 m
    Work= Force x Displacement
    =7.5 J/ Nm
    2) Work done is 0 when the angle between the for and the displacement is 90 degrees.
    3) Work is a scalar quantity because it doesn't have distance but only magnitude.
    Thanks for the tutorial really helped! :)

      If I'm not mistaken,
      you can't change KG to N. Since the given is 5 kg, you will convert it to N, where N=((kg)(m)/(s^2). And F=mg. Where you will use the gravity in this situation.
      W=Fd
      F=mg
      F=(5kg)(-9.81m/s^2)
      F=49.05N
      Substitute,
      W=(-49.05N)(1.5m)
      W=-73.575Nm or -73.575J

      @@brenzkimseysabado1675 I do not believe the work done by the boy is a negative value since the boy lifted the book in the direction of the displacement. The work done by gravity would be negative since it is opposite of displacement. Have to be careful to know who, or what is doing the work. Yes, gravity is doing work in this problem yet that is not what was asked.

    Great video! I would like to add something to this lesson though...at around 7:33 you teach something that everyone says when they teach this unit, that since the arm that's holding the bag has to resist gravity, then *all* the force HAS to be going straight up, so there can't be any work acting on the bag. My issue with that is we know the bag gets pulled to the side by the arm that's carrying it. Since there's a change in the motion of the bag, there has to be some force directing that bag sideways, meaning the angle isn't perfectly 90 degrees (maybe it's 89 degrees) and thus there is a small amount of work happening to kickstart the sideways motion.
    Ultimately, this isn't really going to change much about the calculations on the system, but as a student I always found the answer of "you don't do work after lifting the object" satisfying, since we're moving the object forwards. The work done wouldn't even be very large, since (if the object was going at a constant speed, meaning no acceleration or net force) it would be the momentum of the object keeping it moving forwards, not the work your arm does, but this clarification would probably satisfy students more, and tie in several different units for discussion in class.

    • @ManochaAcademy
      @ManochaAcademy  6 лет назад +20

      That's a great question! Yes the work done is zero due to zero displacement. But the body is doing work against the force of friction of ground. Which gets dissipated as heat energy. Plus work is being done at a muscular level. Here again some of the energy is dissipated as heat. So if we take into account these work dones and energy changes, that's where our body's energy is going. So we feel tired. Hope that helps :)
