Western countries are not war-torn countries that have more important things on their plate right now so I'd expect them to focus on that for their countries at the stage they are at. However, this is not a super priority for Syria in my opinion. Raising the economy, infrastructure, security and education, etc is a win for all citizens. As long as all Syrians are included in thoughts surrounding policies and can practice their stuff I think minority talk should be left for when Syria regains stability and this is what Syria is doing currently so yeah.

If I recall correctly, it was due tot he criminality of the Syrian regime towards its own people (the Caesar Act in the US for what was done to imprisoned Syrian civilians). Western countries are not war-torn countries that have more important things on their plate right now so I'd expect them to focus on that for their countries at the stage they are at. However, this is not a super priority for Syria in my opinion. Raising the economy, infrastructure, security and education, etc is a win for all citizens. As long as all Syrians are included in thoughts surrounding policies and can practice their stuff I think minority talk should be left for when Syria regains stability and this is what Syria is doing currently so yeah.

i know some people justify the non hand shaking between german FM with the new syrian headship as a cultural differences. It is not however being perceived that way by liberal westerners. Former chanceller Angela Merkel shook hand with KIng Salman and President Erdogan to name a few. Former Syrian president Assad, shook hand with late Queen Elisabeth. If I recall correctly, it was due tot he criminality of the Syrian regime towards its own people (the Caesar Act in the US for what was done to imprisoned Syrian civilians). SO why are western governments continue to hold the country hostage to their demands now that the criminal Assadist regime is gone? We don't want handouts, we want to be able to trade and interact with the world without the limitations that result from having sanctions in place. Al Shar3 has voiced his views on women's rights several times: they can work, (both his mother and sister work) get higher education, drive cars, are not obliged to cover their head if they don't want to, etc. So I do not understand what more the west wants. He's already made it clear that he has his own personal rules that he will not subvert to please others, but those rules are not extended to cover others and if they are then he will have another revolution on his hands and he knows it. Personally I would prefer it if we had a non-religious person in that leadership position, but iI know for sure that I am not supported in that view by the majority of Syrians. If an election were to be conducted now I am certain that those who are of a religious bent will be the majority among those elected because Syrians are religious, conservative and quite traditional despite certain appearances that may suggest otherwise (on YT you can find videos of Christian clergymen calling on women to exercise modesty in their dress!). Forcing a government on them that looks like Germany's or France's is not possible.
