Ike had the nerve to attend to tina turners mother's funeral is ridiculous and Tina's mother knew that ike was abusive to her and he used to send Tina's mother some money every month when tina was married to ike all those years ago which is ridiculous as well. And tina did the right thing not to seen in the same place with ike she had a right to keep her distance away from him and as for her mother it sounded like she was evil person to be with. So tina did what she felt was for the best

Now that I'm older, I understand my mother more. I have 3 brothers, 2 older and one younger who passed away 2 years after our Mom did. Even though I was her only daughter, she didn't treat me like a daughter. I tried to have a relationship with her and was there for her when no one else was. 2 weeks before she died, I went to visit her with my new granddaughter, and she acted like I wasn't there. After she died, my brother told me she didn't want me there, nor did she want to see me. Part of the problem was she was an alcoholic and I left to live with my aunt, who would adopt me later. When I I moved 2000 miles away from my mom, is when I started to see things differently.
Now I realized that it's okay if I couldn't have that relationship and that I had to come to terms that I probably never would, and I didn't. I didn't have a father growing up, so it was hard growing up feeling unwanted by both. I would never do that to my girls and grandkids. I tell them I love them every single day so they know I love them. It's a rule in my house, even if you're upset with someone, before you leave the house tell everyone in the house you love them. You just never know. We also have to remember that our parents had issues as well, issues they couldn't overcome, unfortunately.

I can relate. My mom has made mention to me how she wished she got an abortion and how she didn’t like my brother because of how his dad treated her. My mother was a single parent. This behavior trickles down to psychological issues of longing for love on the wrong places and feeling as if you’re not deserving of being loved given your parents did not want you. I never under why some women are allowed the opportunity to pro-create as all women are not meant to be mothers. I still deal with issues today and realized my mother was just unhappy and miserable.

There's much more to the story between Tina and her mom. We've only heard Tina's story. Not her mother's. Not even her sister's version of events. What if Tina was not a well-behaved kid? What if Tina's mom was a victim of domestic abuse? What if Tina's mom didn't "abandon" her but instead left her in the loving hands of her grandmother while she fled for safety? I mean we give Tina grace and love for doing that, right? All I am saying is that i pass judgment on no one, especially when their story has never been told, by them.

This is so damaging to actual people who's parents have intentionally been rejecting to their children.
Everything you've described above has happened to people and yet they choose to love their children... Abuse victims who have gone through way worse mostly don't go on to hurt others...
The element of choice, regardless of how depraved or not our actions are, is something available to everyone.
Stop excusing abuse and call it what it was, regardless of the relationship.

    • @DT-we2ye

@@BrownSugarNCurls No, she left Tina when Tina was about 11 or 12 or 13? And was back in Tina's life around the middle of high school. Tina's, may she rest in peace, was a flawed human like the rest of her. She was not a pure victim. Her story is not just about a black girl/woman who was hurt and abandoned by everyone black in her life, and treated well and saved by every white person in her life. I know that makes mainstream America feel good, but it is not accurate.
