Gosh I got full body chills all the way through Immaterial. Sophie helped me in so many ways I miss her. Her production is groundbreaking you won't regret getting into her discography.
Arca is one of the most essential artists we have making music today. Her vision is revolutionary and Mequetrefe is just a glimpse into that vision. Her music ranges from more distorted pop/club sounds to downright dystopic and even violent music. It for sure takes some getting used to if you're not typically versed in more heavy and experimental electronic sounds but once you give yourself over to it you will fall in love!
I’d love to see your reaction to the Kick series Arca did!! 5 albums, Mequetrefe was from the first one. They’re all so different but explore some really interesting topics and sonics
This was a really fun video! Your reactions are really similar to mine when I first heard hyperpop, it's so overstimulating and overwhelming to someone who isn't used to it. But the more I listened to hyperpop artists the more i fell in love with it. It's very experimental and fresh! Def not everyone's up of tea, but I'm so glad you gave it a try and seemed to enjoy yourself while listening.
Love this as a series idea! Excited to see what other genre’s you explore. I’d love to hear you do metal/metal core and listen to the band Sleep Token as they are incredibly interesting and kind of mix multiple genres.
Awesome video, you should definitely do another hyperpop video. Some song suggestions: Dorian Electra - Adam and Steve SOPHIE - Faceshopping CMTEN - NEVER MET! Pussy Riot - Toxic Underscores - Spoiled little brat
Been listening to hyperpop since the early PC music days before it was even called hyperpop. Very happy to see how much love it’s gotten over the years and how it’s evolved over the last 8-9 years. In my eyes it mirrors punk in a lot of ways by how fringe it is despite showing a lot of love for IDM, dance music, and 90’s/00’s highly manufactured bubblegum pop in a very loving yet self aware way. You’ll notice the more recent artists are in-fact influenced by earlier hyperpop music as a whole rather than bubblegum bop which is where you’ll hear shifts in the genres sound, taking cues from other genres like ringtone rap, trap, hardstyle, pop punk, and metal.
Listen to SOPHIE's PRODUCT (compilation album of her early singles, the building blocks of the hyperpop world), then Pop 2, the Hyperpop blueprint, then OIL OF EVERY PEARL'S UN-INSIDES, Sophie's first and only full-length album
Laura Les said in genius even she doesn't know what a money machine is. Dylan is an S tier producer. Hyperpop is pushing pop to the absolute limit, but very jokey too. Lot of them are lgbtq+, and frax works with gupi a lot who is one of Tony hawks kids!
This may be hard to comprehend but Kick iii by Arca is 10 times as crazy as the song you listened to. You should hear all of her Kick albums they’re so good!
The first time I heard SOPHIE’s singles ‘Lemonade’ and ‘Hard’ I was instantly mind-blown and knew that she was the future (her early singles and work with PC music during the first half of last decade I think were the true catalyst of the rise of hyperpop)...RIP ❤️
Arca’s Mequetrefe talks about gender expression, femininity, and generally about liberation, as the line “she doesn’t take taxi , Uber or Lift, she wants to be seen”, meaning the people shouldn’t care if people see them weird as long as they are being themselves. Mequetrefe can mean a small boy or an insignificant person, so the line “mami wants mequetrefe, she deserves it” keeps going on with the liberation theme, moving towards the more sexual way. There is a lot to see in the song and every time you hear it you understand it more ❤️

Loved your reactions! And hearing SOPHIE still gets me teary-eyed. God. Uhm, definitely also check out underscores... they're really up and coming and are amazingly creative in their production. Specific songs: Spoiled little brat, Second hand embarassment
Omg not to be overbearing but you have certainly opened a door with all these artists, Kero Kero Bonito is SO good!! Their feature on ringtone is not quite defining of their sound as it is constantly changing, but i’d say a good place to start with them is Time ‘n Place if you’d like!
This is so good i love all of these!! fraxiom is one of my favourite artists, and they’re part of a duo called food house that I love, my personal favourite song from those two is mos thoser. also Clarence Clarity is incredible, anything by him or anything he produced for Rina Sawayama is insane.
Yeah I LOVE Rina and Clarence I'm obsessed with her album and I listened to a podcast featuring the two of them and hearing about their process is so inspiring!!
@@Luscent listen to clarence’s solo stuff! He pushes pop’s boundaries to a similar extent as hyperpop but in a completely different way; hyperpop usually takes from very sweet and synth heavy dance/club music of the late 90’s/00’s and takes the extremes from that style and pushes it to its brink, Clarence pulls from that same era but from more pop/R&B music and shoots it into an avant-garde and futuristic stratosphere, it’s actually super artsy and lyrically very deep too!
we love to see it! there are a lot of interesting artists. so to keep it simple i'll suggest only one and that would be the artist underscores. the song is yours to pick but i would go for either "spoiled little brat" or "loansharks (ft. gabby start)". i believe their work takes a different approach to the "genre" contrary to what you already listened to.
If you want the definitive hyper pop albums then definitely star with PC Music I, Pop 2 and Oil of every pearl's un-insides. Still in the genre but different, Sawayama and Pang are some of my favorites

If you would check out arca more, i would reccomend her self titled album, it has a more emotional story line (even though it is in spanish i think there are english translations online as a bilingual speaker the meaning is really eye opening and emotional :0)
Do more hyperpop! There are so many song suggestions in the comments so I won't suggest any more, but there is enough material for a followup video. The ones you listened to already are great picks, and it was great watching you enjoy yourself. Nice video!
One thing to mention is that Laura Les doesn't like her voice and has been digitally altering it when she sings for quite a while, which makes a pretty big part of that 100 gecs sound. Dylan Brady of 100 gecs is the producer on 'I
Oh interesting! Yeah it sounds like there are a few really cool producers pushing the genre it'll be amazing to hear new producers come up and be inspired by them
You know way back around 2011 there was an artist that really sounded like this sort of, as in aggressive and “glitchy”. The song specifically that comes to mind is “Make Me Real” from She. It just doesn’t really have the bubblegum pop feel.
Your comment of not knowing where to listen seems to be the biggest problem most people have with hyperpop but I never had it, idk why but my brain separates the noise automatically even in non hyperpop songs, so when I'm listening to it I don't need to be so focused, I can just listen 'cause all the computer noises and music are being listened to while I'm still focused on the lyrics, I actually love hyperpop for the same reason, it's so crowded that this thing happens and I can't think of the words to explain it in any more detail I just love it.
if you ever do a part 2, you *have* to listen to electra rex by arca, faceshopping by SOPHIE, Wet by COBRAH, pharmacy by gupi and fraxiom, Hey QT by QT, Banana Clip by Namasenda and SLIME by shygirl! great video

Cool!
If you would check out arca more, i would reccomend her self titled album, it has a more emotional story line (even though it is in spanish i think there are english translations online as a bilingual speaker the meaning is really eye opening and emotional :0)
That sounds cool!! I'd have to follow it with a translation but that could be really interesting!
you should really just go through all of sophies discography, it’s not the longest but their is definitely some quality there!!
Do more hyperpop! There are so many song suggestions in the comments so I won't suggest any more, but there is enough material for a followup video. The ones you listened to already are great picks, and it was great watching you enjoy yourself. Nice video!
Charli is the queen of this genre
alice longyu gao is an amazing artist, you should check out some of their other stuff!
oh and also the 1000 gecs album by 100 gecs and other charlie xcx albums are really good
another win for the LGBTs let's gooo
dorian has quite a lot of great metal inspired songs (live by the sword, replay w gaga) i think you’d like gec 2 u and my agenda (song) too!
Cool! Thanks for recommending!
Oh interesting!
Your comment of not knowing where to listen seems to be the biggest problem most people have with hyperpop but I never had it, idk why but my brain separates the noise automatically even in non hyperpop songs, so when I'm listening to it I don't need to be so focused, I can just listen 'cause all the computer noises and music are being listened to while I'm still focused on the lyrics, I actually love hyperpop for the same reason, it's so crowded that this thing happens and I can't think of the words to explain it in any more detail I just love it.
hyperpop is the future
check out cecile believe please!!! her album "plucking a cherry from the void" is SO good and very much hyperpop

100% agree with this, slayyyter's song Stupid Boy ft. Big Freedia is amazing, while she isn't hyperpop, she's bounce, you also need to know Big Freedia too, She's an ICON
