dafuq? How would workers who are the literal owners of their business be disincentivized to work compared to being employees?
Amones-Ray The problem with socialism is that big businesses don’t always make money. In fact, large businesses like Bugatti, Amazon, and Facebook have all lost money over a one year period year within the past 5 years. That is because regardless of whether the company makes or loses money the employees must be paid, and people cost a lot of money to hire. So..... Sometimes companies worth trillions can’t even pay for their own workforce on top of the price of building maintenance, refurbishments, shipping fees, insurance, taxes on land/buildings and wealth tax among other things. That is why they need loans sometimes, because selling their assets to pay for their expenses would only cause devaluation of the company, which is no good. Then, if the company can’t pay back their debt they file for chapter 11 bankruptcy and so on. That is why companies often try avoiding taxes; they do it so that they can successfully maintain YOUR paycheck, which is good for you. If a company was socialist and it lost money everyone would suffer, whereas in a capitalist society banks act as a buffer to protect the middle class; and even if bank loans existed in a purely socialist society, it would be up to the person running the company to fix the problem (at least in a socialist democracy that is). However, here is where you would hit another problem, if that person failed and the company went bankrupt your a** wouldn’t be protected and you wouldn’t be able to MAKE MONEY, which you need to buy food and SURVIVE. But what makes it even worse it that the person running the company doesn’t need to have experience, they could just be very misleading or skilled at misguiding people so that they could be in charge of a company; and people will lie for power in a system that doesn’t mandate legitimacy. So trust me, socialism is a bad idea.
@@typicalstudent8854 the thing that the video got wrong is that socialism isn't when "workers own the company", it is the abolishment of the commodity form (according to marx, a thing that is created for exchange for another commodity, mainly money). That means socialism (or communism) is the primarily the abolishment of the present state of things.
A coop-run capitalist system isn't very long lasting and speeds up the tendency of profit to fall, making the market crash. All markets eventually crash, social democracies just do it faster. I am too lazy right now to explain an actual socialist (or communist) system, but here's a summary (*note, i am using lenins definition of socialism and communism as marx did not differentiate the two):
If the country that went through a revolution is feudalist - then it can't become socialist. Socialism requires capitalism to develop the industries (means of production) so it can continue to develop from it to eventually become communist.
What do you do then? You establish a dictatorship of the proleteriat (DoTP). The DoTP still produces commodities, and the main point of it is to develop the MoP to the point where it can smoothly transition to socialism. (An example of a DoTP would be the USSR in its earlier years until it became state capitalist, or the Paris commune in 1871)
Eventually the country (or the world, preferably the world of course as the global market seeks to destroy socialism and any development of it)
Socialism seeks to develop the forces of production even further, until eventually communism will be possible. This process could take over centuries.
Communism- the final frontier, the state was abolished, the class system taken down, and full automation has taken place. What's beyond this is impossible to know. It could maybe not even reach this point ever because of human conflict, or capitalists trying to stop a successful revolution.
It is fairly late and I am tired, so this might be badly written. If you want some book recommendations on the subject or maybe a video or two I can send them.
Who would risk a bunch of money and time to start a business that ends up being owned equally by every person that gets hired on for the entire existence of the business. Also they would hire as few people as possible because every time a person is hired the wages drop considerably for every employee. Socialism has destroyed nations and killed tens of millions of people for generations and now we have brainwashed college kids tricked into thinking socialism is good. It is mind boggling what kind of mental gymnastics goes on in a classroom to convince kids that socialism is good. Our schools need to be overhauled and every single extreme leftist teacher needs to be told to stop brainwashing the kids or they will be fired.
@@slayinbass2396 The problem with State education is, the emphasis isn't on getting kids trained for employment, because teachers will still get paid, via taxes, no matter how unqualified the kids are when they leave that school. So the teachers are free to indoctrinate the kids with their own opinions instead of teaching them useful and valuable things.
@@yorkshiremgtow1773 I agree. The public school system is fucked up.
Holy shit. Before they mentioned the thing about the third way I would have given this video about a 6/10 for truth. I mean it's biased, it's vulgarized and kind of wrong, but in comparison to other attempts I've seen, it wasn't bad. Then they declared that third way was a mix of socialism and capitalism. I literally couldn't contain myself. 0/10 for truth. That statement is so absurd that it overrides any of the other halfway accurate statements that were made earlier in the clip.
What wrong with it?

Hey, BBC, to me it's important to include the arguments of Carl Menger, Ludwig von Mises and Heyek in those videos about socialism, they argued there is no economic calculation under a socialist regime and the value of stuff is determined by subjective concepts.
Idiota!
They should include about how almost every socialist country has turned into some form of a dictatorship like China,Cuba,Nazi Germany
This is hilarious. I had a conversation with a Swedish high school teacher who claimed to be a socialist. He objected to the idea of mandatory accounting/finance in the schools on the grounds that the math would make Capitalism seem logical to the students.
In the 1930s John Maynard Keynes was talking about a 15-hour work week for grandchildren. Did Keynes ever see a television commercial for automobiles designed to become obsolete? Neither the Left nor the Right advocates mandatory accounting or talks about the annual depreciation of automobiles and other durable consumer goods. How much CO2 in atmosphere is the result of unnecessary manufacturing due to planned obsolescence?
These capitalism-socialism debates are so out of date relative to technology. Increase GDP while ignoring Demand Side Depreciation.
When the company doesn't do well, should the workers be saddled with the debt? Just a thought.

Socialism the economic system that wont die, no matter how many times it's tried and the different variants. Whether it's socialism based on labour, nationalism or on race... Yes, these are all forms of socialism that have failed with murders effects, from the gulags of the Soviet Union, concentration camps of Nazi Germany, or the cultural revolution in China. In modern times the collapsed economies of Zimbabwe, Venezuela or those of Eastern Europe. Each time we've been told, "that's not real socialism"... Tell that to the millions who have tried to flee to the West for a better life and the chance of a better opportunity.
Trying to compare bodies is a null point because how many people die under the current capitalist system today? The Iran war, Afghanistan, currently Ukraine etc. all under a capitalist organisation of the economy, and many more deaths have occurred under capitalism than socialism.
A cooperative becomes the state, the state is an organised group. All socialism is performed by the state, socialism doesn’t acknowledge the existence of the individual.
Kinda true, socialisms about democracy and democracy is led by majority rule. Individualist can be apart of a socialist society if they work as entrepreneurs for themselves only.
Socialism would just imply for every person that joins the firm or business they have to become apart of the business in every way as well. (A team/ partnership type relationship,) and if there’s a government involved it works for the majority if there’s a single or minority that favors something the majority gets the favoritism.
Which could be a very good or bad thing .
"Socialism is the philosophy of failure.
The creed of ignorance,
The gospel of envy.
Its inherit virtue is the equal sharing of misery."
Winston Churchill
James P Shut the hell up. None of that is true.
James P Ah but Churchill obviously failed to mention the drawbacks of capitalism. Capitalism is fantastic for exponential growth, assuming we live in a world with infinite resources. Expect we don’t. And that’s when capitalism will slowly become more fascism and eventually authoritarian. We’re slowly seeing the signs of fascism creep through the US and Europe, it won’t be too long before mass civil unrest breaks out. The gap between the working class and the 1% is ever increasing, homelessness is on the rise along with drug addiction and society itself is slowly becoming more and more insane as they become gripped with materialistic desires all funded for by credit cards. Capitalism is destined to fail, it won’t hold out forever.
As if capitalist imperialism is somehow altruistic.
tony mush Based on a poverty line of $1.90. So someone could be living on 2 dollars per day and be considered above the poverty line. If the international poverty line was raised to reflect human need, many millions more would be in poverty.
Capitalism has made the rich richer and the poor richer. Socialism has made the poor poorer and the poor poorer with equal poverty.
This notion from people that socialism is the answer to societies problems is the cancer of western civilisation, its madness.
God bless western civilisation, democracy and capitalism.
this is anti communist liberal propaganda also, social democracy isnt a form of socialism.
