  • In this 6-minute video, we'll walk through the unboxing and initial setup of a Cobra NP-4 skiving machine from Tandy Leather. We go from unboxing the machine to actually cutting the first pieces of leather. In future videos, we'll discuss maintenance and adjustments on this skiving machine, and I'll demonstrate why it's such a valuable tool in leather bag making.

    Without your video we wouldn’t have figured out how to assemble. No instructions came with it. And ps my husband and I barely lifted the head together! Course we are 70+. But again, many thank yous for the video!!

    Thanks for your video. Excellent skiving machine, essential tool for leather work. This was set at the factory. After the first sharpening of the bell knife it must be adjusted from the beginning. Be careful with the sharpening of bell knife because the manual doesn't say all the way.

      @@ClaridgeLeather How do you tackle that scratch line on the opposite side of the skive? Seen at 5:29 - 5:31 It looks like it's the foot pressing down onto the leather and while it's feeding it's way through it gives that scratch..

    A Cobra skiver is definitely the next machine I`ll buy but after buying a Cobra 4 and a Cobra 20 in the last years I have to save up some money. These machines are excellent and the customer service from leathermachineco is great !

    Hi Tanner, I enjoy watching your videos ao much, thanks a lot for taking time to make these tutorials. I bought a second hand similar skiving machine and watched many videos on how to ajust it but I am still having troubles getting nice results.
    Would you be able to do a quick review if your machine and how you change the settings depending on the thickness/type of leather you use on a project? You always give good advice..hope you can find the time for my request!! Thanks in advance!

    Tanner, As with all the other comments on here...Thank You and Good Work your doing. I do have some questions for you, if I may. Do you skive both Chrome and Veg Tanned leather with this machine? If so do you run into a problem with either type of leather?
    Thank You very much for your time and Videos.

    • @ClaridgeLeather
      @ClaridgeLeather  Год назад +1

      Thanks, Gunner- yes, definitely skive both types. Thin, very soft leather is your trickiest (and this isn’t the machine for thick veg tan), but keeping it sharp helps it skive all types of leather really well.

    I am thinking of buying just the bell knife head from China for about USD350 and mounting it to a sewing machine table very similar to the one you have for your Zoje sewing machine. How possible would it be for you to mount your NP-4 to that table? Could you make the belt configuration work?
