  • What's Next For The Philadelphia Flyers? 2024 Off-Season Plan
How will The Philadelphia Flyers attempt at moving forward and making their team more competitive in 2024-25? How can they bounce back and move back into a playoffs spot after not making the 2024 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. I examine the past season, team roster and determine their best plan to improve the team. We address NHL Trade Rumours regarding Philadelphia Flyers trade rumours and how they should proceed on that. We analyze their 2024 NHL Prospects and deals they may try to make at the draft. They are in good shape with draft picks in the 2024 NHL Draft. We discuss the 2024 NHL Draft prospects they could select as well. There have been plenty of NHL Trade rumours 2024 regarding this team and I am sure there will be some changes. We address the Philadelphia Flyers rumours and whether they stand a good chance at making some off-season moves. We discuss other NHL free agents 2024 that they could explore signing as well. We will see if any of the Philadelphia Flyers trade talk will come to be or what direction this team will head in. In a market like Philadelphia Flyers there will always be plenty of NHL trade talk when things aren't going well.

Let me know your expectations on the Flyers this off-season

For the first time in a long time, I'm pretty optimistic about the Flyers. Danny Briere is so far an excellent GM, and the old boys club has apparently been shown the door. I think the Flyers should priorities should be:
    - Get Michkov over. The rumor mill is turning, but I'm not getting excited until things become official.
    - Focus on young player developments. The young core is solid, and there's a ton of draft capital. So far, so good.
    - Let some of these bad contracts expire. Atkinson only has a year left. Buying out Ellis and Risto would be nice, but we'll see what happens.
    - Keep trading. They haven't made a bad trade in the Briere era.

If Torts won’t play Frost, then you’ve got a Torts issue. Because that means you can’t draft Catton or Eiserman because both are even greater defensive liabilities than Frost/Brink. You could draft Yakemchuk, but he is also bad defensively but might benefit from their D coaches. You could draft Helenius but his max projection is a 60 pt 2nd liner. So Briere is eventually going to have to decide between Torts systems, or having skill players who might not be ideal Torts system guys. So either you draft players to fit this mythical system (which has worked in past for Torts…. But with other organizations), or skill players that the Flyers desperately need given our horrific offense.

Was quite the year for the Flyers. Despite losing their star goalie, were in playoff hunt right until the end. Surprised everyone, full credit to Torts. Think they should hang on to Travis K, and hopefully Sean C can fully bounce back. They need better goaltending, a Ryan Ellis type on D, and a new PP coach.

Yeah it hurts not only from a goalie perspective, but he was also probably their number one trade asset to get a high level prospect or two.

Great Video, as usual, Mike. I think that they have to look to reconcile John Tortorella as A Head Coach. If they're going to stick with him, they're going to have to get rid of players that don't mix well with him, such as Ryan Johannson & Cam Atkinson. They can't go down the same road as The 1994 New York Rangers, after Mike Keenan left & have players of the caliber that don't produce under A New Coach. While I'm in no way saying that they've got to get rid of him, I think that they've got to get some players that can play for him. I am not sure how that's going to mix with the up & coming players. While it might work, it also might fail, if these players can't adapt to Torts' system. Therefore, this has to be dealt with first (especially one of the things talked about Torts in A Front Office Position). Let me know what you think

Many thanks for the great Flyers off-season overview. Imo, Briere will be looking to add another 1st rd pick for this yr or next, and also searching for a young C they see as top 6 material. So, Frost, Farabee, Laughton, and maybe Konecny are the bait. They'll draft with a C or LD in mind. Maybe Eiserman if he's there. Thanks again!

Couts agent change is about the 1 he left was a family friend. The father of the agency was only reason he changed.

Of the UFA's/RFA's Zamula and Brink will be back; I doubt anyone else will. I could see Atkinson being moved and perhaps one of Hathaway or Deslauriers (both were negative on-ice players...); I think the Flyers would want to keep Hathaway for his spiciness, but I just don't know if they'll find any takers for Deslauriers, or even if he can be moved due to his M-NTC... I could see the Flyers moving on from Farabee, but I think that's a contract you have to be careful of moving with Farabee being so young and talented; unless he wants to move on... I think it's 50:50 Frost stays... he's definitely not a 1C, but could still become an average 2C, which would fill a role on the Flyers and if it comes to it, would be a pretty good 3C at an affordable price. I think Coots stays and continues as 1C and hopefully with a full-offseason of training under his belt he recovers his old Selke trophy competing form again... Although he's a quintessential Flyer at this point, I think it's time the Flyers move on from Laughton, the Flyers current 3C. Laughton, is a good, affordable bottom-six guy who can play center or wing and play up in a pinch, he's useful on the PK (4th ranked) and has a very reasonable cap-hit. He would be a great fit with a contender and with 3 years remaining at 3M/yr, and with him approaching 30 and the Flyers having a lot of bottom-six forward prospects, especially with Ryan Poehling deserving a promotion from 4C... I think Laughton's highest value is now. Plus he just doesn't fit this team's competitive window.
I think Flyer's positions of need are 1) Top center prospect, 2) Top-4 defenseman prospect, 3) Talented top-9 scorer. Guys, I would like the Flyers to go after even if it means trading 1sts or 2nds include a top-center prospects like Barrett Hayton, Alex Turcotte, Shane Wright, or Marco Rossi. On defense, I would like one of Philip Broberg, Victor Soderstrom, or Erik Brannstrom; for added scoring; Arthur Kaliyev, Oliver Wahlstrom, Dylan Holloway or Thomas Akil. To replace Laughton, a guy like Lias Andersson or Isac Lunderstrom would be interesting. Several of these guys could use a change of scenery, have requested a trade or have lost their roles due to inopportune injuries and might be had at an affordable price relative to their potential. It's also very possible we see homegrown prospects fill-in the ranks cheaply; guys like Emil Andrae, Ronnie Attard, Louis Belpedio, or Helge Grans on the backend playing protected minutes on the 3rd pairing; Bobby Brink promoted to full-timer, Tanner Laczynski is definitely a 4C (if he can stay healthy) and Olle Lycksell in the bottom-six...

That and trading Walker and losing Seeler to injury at the same time. They were excellent pairing with one another. Also, believe it or not, losing Risto hurt them too. They were actually 17-9-6 with him in the lineup. Their D was a mess when they fell apart towards the end of the season.
