When I started playing tennis, my friend gave me a tape called "Complete Tennis". It contains all the great lessons including this one. In fact, Kramer was the anchor who introduces each episode and its featured instructor. Now i still enjoy watching these lessons, not least because there is always something new to learn.
best grip explanation ever. too diffcult to hit western forehand with small racket. nowadays just the opposite, continental and eastern grips are forsaken.
I hit a western forehand, which I began with a small wooden racket (Rossignol Strato). I was self-taught, probably from watching a lot of Borg. I switched to a bigger frame (Rossignol FC200) in my late teens. It was just the natural grip for me. I always thought McEnroe looked weird, trying to flip his wrist over, when he wanted topspin.
looks like Los Serranos in Chino Hills; it is a golf course that he was the owner of; the Italian Cypress and hills in the background are spot on for it...
@@jollyjoe9281 WOW, I'm amazed with your answer. I have just checked the pictures from this area, and it looks You are right. It is very beautiful place, which I would love to visit. Thank You for your effort and answer.
@@dawidswin9202 well he owned the place and his family still does; at this time there are no tennis courts but at that time there could have been... it has two courses both very nice public tracks... it could be Palm Springs as well the mountain backdrop and Italian Cypress are similar to that area as well... I have to watch it more closely but from what I saw the camera only focuses on him and not much of the background...
You don't have any problem with the backhand if you use a western grip. You can hit with the same side of the racket and not change your grip at all. I personally use a semi western for both my forehand and my backhand. No grip change.

The beautiful Wilson Jack Kramer racket. Every once in a while I take it out for a nostalgic spin.
Kramer had Vic Braden as the main coach read his books tennis for the future
Great explanation.
very cool video!
The great Champion🇺🇸🏆
Wow. People used the western grip in the wooden racquet era?
The thumb behind the backhand is probably the worst piece of advice next to ‘scratch the back at the service.

+studfindingball ironic isnt it
studfindingball. Continental is still widely used for service, overhead, volley and slice backhand.
Eastern forehand here! Interesting stuff.

This video maybe made in the 70s right???
probably
I'm a little more concerned about the shape of the bushes behind him. I am an all-continental player, by the way.
Jack’s got plenty of belly in his pants here. Loved my old Jack Kramer racket. “Back in the old days they used a Western grip.”
