If you have a US or Canadian drivers license, that's all you need. If you are from elsewhere, just ask the car rental company... they'll let you know exactly what is required.

this is most useful. thanks. Do you recommend renting smaller cars due to the narrow roads?
Depends where you're going, some roads are too rough for smaller cars, you could get charged for damage to underneath.
Skoda Superb sedans will fit, our roads arent that small (ik this is an old comment)
I ended up renting a smallish car from sixt. Vw I think. It was awesome
