A white dry brush with white painted nails and white teeth would have been fun and poster version would have been amazing
On one hand i think the sculpt on this is figure is really nice but the paint is what makes it so hard for me to actually buy. They didnt even want to paint his toes. If im going to get a 1954 godzilla its going to be some of the older figures. I just want bandai to paint 1954 more. Sadd timeline we live in

BLACK & WHITE IS NO EXCUSE!!! The Gamera 65 figure from the old Gamera Memorial Box ain’t a sold Grey, and as for something more recent, Varan ain’t a solid Grey. I know Bandai said it was Varan 68 not 58 but let’s be real it’s the 58 version.
Even that new Gamera 65 had colors on it.
But Gamera wasn’t grey in the movie, so idk what was going on at Bandai HQ.
It actually was supposed to be 1958 Varan. The tag has the 1958 Varan on it, and not the 1968 one.

I got my dad this for father's day earlier this year. He poses him all the time next to his Robby the robot figure lol. He asked me the other day "how come you cant move or position his tail" A good question to add more poseability. It would have been cool if they added a bendy wire in the tail or something. I wanted to get the black & white mezco one but 140 bucks kind of pricey. Great review btw.
I remember when Bandai America was the one that didn't like painting it's stuff.
And now some of them have more paint than the Movie Monster Series lol

It'd make for a fun project to repaint it brown (which was apparently the actual color of the Shodai suit.)

I feel like they should've made this release brown which is what the suit color was or supposedly. Least there it would've been different and interesting. They could've equally also given us a Bagan level wildcard and release the American poster color Godzilla since Toho acknowledge that version of the film recently. Also funny thing was before Godzilla Day, The Japanese Godzilla youtube channel has a community post promoting G-Day and they used the older TKS Godzilla 1954 figure than this one lol.

I miss the NECA figures. They were cheaper than MonsterArts and other premium figures but were head and shoulders above anything else in the sub $50 price range.

I literally got this figure a few months ago, I love Shodaigoji. Sadly, it's not the 70th anniversary version, granted, but it's still good.

I'm gonna grab it prescicley because it's cheap, I don't have one yet and I can lump it in with some other stuff for shipping, so at least theres that.

The 2024 released are cheaper than the 2019 released in my country, also this guy only costs 14$ here with free shipping (there is some discount too, 10% or smth)
There's actually a third bandai Godzilla 1954 I think it was released in 2009
Even the 2001 and 2005 MMS version of this figure looked like it had more effort put into them
They actually did something cool, different, worth it with the original releases. Why this became the usual with this mold.. I’ll never understand.
That explains why it was only ¥1800
Sad. Ugh. Elsewhere, I presume you've seen the comparable vinyl G figures from Bandai America that have appeared in Target stores. Not the jointed G 2004/Kiryu in boxes, but (at least) three 5-inch (4-inch?) ones in super flimsy cardboard packages: G '54 like this one, G '54 with sparkly dark gray plastic, and Mechagodzilla '74. Did I mention the sparkly?
tbh the only reason why i might pick up this figure is because the Tag thats it.
Pretty good review, I agree I don't really see the point in rereleasing this figure when the 2019 one is still available, especially as they changed nothing.
As nice as the NECA figure looks, I do have to disagree on it being better, because at the end of the day...its still a NECA, with all the quirks and quality control fuckery that entails.
As underwhelming as Bandai's is, it does have the benefit of 'what you see is what you get.' One wouldn't have to worry about limps being stuck or breaking off due to stiffness for one. I know its not entirely a fair comparison as both figures are trying to accomplish different things (you'll never see a Bandai figure with all the articulation of the NECA line, but you won't see a NECA figure with a sculpt as nice as what Bandai can do.)
Its just a re-release but less paint bandai is so lazy nowadays

I swear, every time Bandai reissues this figure, there’s a tiny amount of detail that gets lost but only builds up over time…
You could really see it with the comparison.
They’ll eventually have to make a new mold…… maybe….. if only Bandai bullshit wasn’t a thing.
On a very out of left field side note, Bullmark.
People don’t get fed up with Bullmark despite putting out nothing but reissues & repaints. Reason being, they’re different colors.
If only Bandai did as cool of repaints that Bullmark does.

Bandai's Rules,
1# Use the same New Mold just with different paint and Low Details
2# Don't use Old Perfect Molds and make a new one with only two articulation points and reduce the figure size
3# Sell figures of inferior quality to previous versions at high prices
