Maybe she's someone who values quality time in a friendship and didn't feel like she was getting that anymore or maybe that was just the last straw since she probably stressed how important that show was for her and Vinyl just forgot again. It's so sad how prevalent bullying was in schools when it came to MLP. This song was one of the first few that exposed me to the fandom. I was in middle school when this dropped and to this day it remains a classic for me.
Ya know hearing this again it makes me realize that Octavia was overreacting. Sure she has an important career but so does Vinyl. I think she should’ve understood that she can’t be there always because stuff comes up and we can be forgetful at times. She’s mad all over her missing another concert? I would be disappointed too but if they have something important to do then I’ll understand. Especially if they offered to take me to my favorite restaurant as an apology. I totally see your point, but I believe that the important here is background context. Yes, missing a friend's concert/presentation more than once, when you're a very busy person yourself, is totally understandable, and they can totally do other things together. It sucks, but it's not the end of the world and it's expected in that case. But Octavia has presumably had more than a few of these. If this happened one too many times (especially in a row which seems to be the implication), I think it's understandable to start being a little peeved. Things like a concert can be a pretty big deal to someone and it's clear this in particular was a critical moment to Octavia, and those things are where you most prove to a friend that you care whether you realize it or not. It's different for everyone, but it's important to spot these things because they can make a person feel very unloved when you consistently fail at them. There is always a moment where in a friendship you do have to bite the bullet to be there for them, and maybe that sometimes means having to adjust something or sacrificing some time you're working on other things to spend just a moment with them. If it was a long concert I wouldn't have blamed Vinyl for being there for just a moment/song and leaving but the important thing is showing you can make that effort still for something that a person needs in that moment, it can't always be postponed. Vinyl can probably get away with asking for some time to do something else before getting to work, unless it's something absolutely time-sensitive. Some things aren't as earth-shattering as we like to think. It does definitely sound like Octavia's decision was rash, an overreaction she'd probably come to regret later, but it sounds perfectly understandable to react poorly to what feels like someone always having something more important than you to do, even if the other person doesn't feel it that way. (Maybe in the reverse situation, "attendance" kind of things really don't matter to Vinyl and that's why she doesn't see it as a big deal, in which case, it's a miscommunication issue, but that's a bit besides the point). That's just my two cents anyway.

@@scribblecloud Because I like analyzing things! Oh, yeah. That's a nice detail actually. Octavia felt like Vinyl was just blowing her off for sure, but it's (in theory) an irrational reaction. She said it was fine and then got upset when Vinyl actually acted like it was. Painfully realistic. Still, that ties back into what I said, about the communication issues, namely because honesty is hard. We're taught early on to hide our true feelings in order to maintain the "peace" even when it hurts our relationships in the long run. It's frustrating, but of course if she says it's fine, Vinyl technically has no reason not to just...Move on. Octavia should've just steeled herself and actually said it was hurting her, and then they could've actually worked something out, and it would've been on Vinyl too to make sure she actually took this into consideration. Only then can you actually place blame on someone for not listening to you, but otherwise it's your fault for not speaking up in the first place. Sure, it's rarely that easy to get used to doing this, but it is an ideal that we should strive for.

They chose you, out of thousands or millions of other people. To them, you are 'better'. Sure, there are mistakes that we make that can hurt our friends badly. We make them because we are human. We are born to mess up and fail. So, when you make another mistake and hurt your friends, go to them and tell them how bad you feel, and ask for their forgiveness. If your friendship is strong, if you and your friend care about each other, I'd bet that your friend will understand and forgive you. Once they do that, then take that bad feeling, that guilt in your heart, and throw it as far as you can, because you don't need to carry it around anymore.

I showed this to my class in elementary when it came out, got bullied so hard and spent the rest of the day crying in the bathroom, I have no regrets though I would rewatch this religiously, and still re-visit ✊😔
It's so sad how prevalent bullying was in schools when it came to MLP. This song was one of the first few that exposed me to the fandom. I was in middle school when this dropped and to this day it remains a classic for me.
Ya know hearing this again it makes me realize that Octavia was overreacting. Sure she has an important career but so does Vinyl. I think she should’ve understood that she can’t be there always because stuff comes up and we can be forgetful at times. She’s mad all over her missing another concert? I would be disappointed too but if they have something important to do then I’ll understand. Especially if they offered to take me to my favorite restaurant as an apology. You don’t just end a friendship over a concert. I just think Octavia was in the wrong and should have been more understanding.
I totally see your point, but I believe that the important here is background context. Yes, missing a friend's concert/presentation more than once, when you're a very busy person yourself, is totally understandable, and they can totally do other things together. It sucks, but it's not the end of the world and it's expected in that case. But Octavia has presumably had more than a few of these. If this happened one too many times (especially in a row which seems to be the implication), I think it's understandable to start being a little peeved. Things like a concert can be a pretty big deal to someone and it's clear this in particular was a critical moment to Octavia, and those things are where you most prove to a friend that you care whether you realize it or not. It's different for everyone, but it's important to spot these things because they can make a person feel very unloved when you consistently fail at them.
There is always a moment where in a friendship you do have to bite the bullet to be there for them, and maybe that sometimes means having to adjust something or sacrificing some time you're working on other things to spend just a moment with them. If it was a long concert I wouldn't have blamed Vinyl for being there for just a moment/song and leaving but the important thing is showing you can make that effort still for something that a person needs in that moment, it can't always be postponed. Vinyl can probably get away with asking for some time to do something else before getting to work, unless it's something absolutely time-sensitive. Some things aren't as earth-shattering as we like to think. It does definitely sound like Octavia's decision was rash, an overreaction she'd probably come to regret later, but it sounds perfectly understandable to react poorly to what feels like someone always having something more important than you to do, even if the other person doesn't feel it that way. (Maybe in the reverse situation, "attendance" kind of things really don't matter to Vinyl and that's why she doesn't see it as a big deal, in which case, it's a miscommunication issue, but that's a bit besides the point). That's just my two cents anyway.

@@scribblecloud Because I like analyzing things! Oh, yeah. That's a nice detail actually. Octavia felt like Vinyl was just blowing her off for sure, but it's (in theory) an irrational reaction. She said it was fine and then got upset when Vinyl actually acted like it was. Painfully realistic. Still, that ties back into what I said, about the communication issues, namely because honesty is hard. We're taught early on to hide our true feelings in order to maintain the "peace" even when it hurts our relationships in the long run. It's frustrating, but of course if she says it's fine, Vinyl technically has no reason not to just...Move on. Octavia should've just steeled herself and actually said it was hurting her, and then they could've actually worked something out, and it would've been on Vinyl too to make sure she actually took this into consideration. Only then can you actually place blame on someone for not listening to you, but otherwise it's your fault for not speaking up in the first place. Sure, it's rarely that easy to get used to doing this, but it is an ideal that we should strive for.

It’s more that she saved a place for vinyl, meaning she planned to come but bailed and didn’t tell octi until last minute. As someone whose love language is acts of service and recently left a relationship where the other person never did ANYTHING for me, broken promises and plans add up.

If your friendship is strong, if you and your friend care about each other, I'd bet that your friend will understand and forgive you. Once they do that, then take that bad feeling, that guilt in your heart, and throw it as far as you can, because you don't need to carry it around anymore.
