I love how richly layered this scene is. It's even accurate from a 19th century combat perspective. Harriet picks up the rifle immediately instead of bothering with her pistol, because there might be more slavers around + Gideon is close enough that he might draw a knife and come rushing at her before she can reload...or try and gallop away like the jolly chevalier he imagines himself to be.

Harriet Tubman.
The whole movie I thought it was strange how he somewhat liked her... Like I don't know if he has feelings for her or what but it seems like he didn't want her to die nor her harmed it was weird to me how he acted towards her
The actor who played Gideon admitted in several interviews that his character loved Harriet and he internally struggled with that because of his upbringing.
@@ShiningFriendship87 OK that makes sense because I was thinking that but didn't know for sure If he loved her or just wanted to keep her as a slave
It's called I own you & possess you and you have no right to life outside my world where I dicatate the shots. He was a sociopath. Understand? Even people who "love you" can be insane like he was. He had feelings for her which made it even more dangerous.
I think he loved her the same way The Bird loved Louis in Unbroken.
Bitterly obsessed with what he couldn't break into loving him.
Yes, he had a mix of hate, Love and obsession for her, when he tried to touch her and then slapped was creepy af
Harriet Tubman was a great person but it seems like most people commenting think this was real. It's a real as Django Unchained.

This was real.
"Real power means having every justification to kill a man, but being able to refrain from doing so."
-Oskar Schindler
She was a very strong and admirable woman
She was a national treasure who was never given the respect or financial reward she deserved for her great service to our nation.
Does anyone else get the vibe that Gideon low key has feelings for Harriet?
As a matter of fact the actor playing as Gideon has claimed that he was indeed attracted to Harriet since childhood. (Source was from an interview)
Well, it’s definitely white supremacy coupled with possessive attachment. The white supremacist sentiment prevents him from admitting to a possessive attachment of another nature. He loved her the way that an abusive man wouldn’t wish to release a woman whom he is mistreating who deeply wishes to escape , but he couldn’t admit to even that due to the racism.
She just predicted the American Civil War.

You could tell Gideon felt everything that Harriet was saying to him and that deep down he truly didn't want to be that way (there was a time when he did treat her better and even admitted he cared for her) and Harriet knew it that's why she didn't kill him, she could still see in his eyes that sad sickly little boy being raised in ignorance and felt pity for him.

I think he was in love of Harriet
@@EAV0131i been said this 😭
I love how well the horse was trained, hopefully humanely💜
Guys it wasn't sexual about the way he felt about Harriet it was always about power and control.
Control was one aspect cause it was slavery after all. But the guy had strong feelings for Harriet as the actor who played him says
It was mainly obsession for possession because of the fact he was told he owned her like a pig. He just wanted to make it clear that she was his. This is why he wanted her alive and unharmed because he wanted to punish her himself and prove she could not be free.
i love when she shot the thing the horse was so chill abt it

I wasn't all that moved by her performance until this scene. "God don't mean people to own people, Gideon" was such a strong line and one that completely moved me. Especially after you can still hear the echo of the gunshot in the air. She definitely grew into the role as the movie progressed.
