Damn, I made this video over 4 years ago... If you enjoy then I certainly encourage you to check out my more recent offerings over here: ruclips.net/user/ryanhollinger
Ryan Hollinger I like your theory, watched from beginning to end . At first (in 2014) I hated this game . But in 2017 I regret hating it and not playing it in the first place . Actually the Farcry game was manipulating us the gamers itself coz at first I was a pussy to engage in fight with them pirates , but eventually I got crazy and a lot crazier discovering my true potential lol . (There is already a comment which says tge same thing ) . God, I love your theory so much . I guess you have a psych degree .
Ryan Hollinger Idk if you ever got to play the silent hills demo (PT), but if you did, and haven't made a video about it, you totally should. This analysis was doper than dabs.
I just realised why killing your friends and staying on an island is even a choice: It's either Jason realises that he's perpetuating a cycle and breaks the loop, or he doesn't because he's gone too far. Vaas warned us. We either listen to him, or ignore his warnings and suffer the same fate.
It might be that the cycle ends either way It doesn't matter if Jason gets cut open by Citra or leaves the island and dies of old age haunted by images of men he killed he never told anyone the definition of insanity
The ending of the game could be the completion of the circle, when Jason officially looses his mind. When you get free play at the end of the game, you are no longer working towards an objective. You are truly insane, killing and destroying with no purpose.
@@mitchrusso8938 there are two endings 1 you save your friends and leave with them and 2 you kill them and Citra kills you as shown in the video. But you can still play after you finish the story it's just that it's not canon to the main story.
Jason never leaves the island in either ending, he either kills his friends and brother with the Rakyat and gets ritualistically stabbed by Citra, or he saves his friends and remains on the island. You can hear Jason speaking right as the credits start about how he’s killed too many to go back to civilisation, and so he stays on the island, becoming the island’s new Vaas.
I feel as though Vaas never really tried to kill Jason either. If you look at it, every time he confronts Jason, Vaas seems to make only a half-hearted attempt. The first time ends with him telling Jason to run into the forest, and then sending the pirates after him. An attempt on his life, yes, but with a fighting chance. The second time, with the fire. Could've shot Jason in the head. Could've covered him in gas, too. But again, gives him a fighting chance. But in this second confrontation, he takes the lighter out of Jason's pocket and then puts in back, meaning that _Vaas knows the lighter is in Jason's pocket when he shoots him there at the end of the third encounter._ Maybe on a subconscious level, Vaas wanted Jason to survive, and wanted him to break the cycle. Also, BLITZKRIEEEEEEEEEEEGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!
JTVgaming*You're. And he knew Jason well enough to know he would escape from that. And of course, he did. Also, that cinderblock did _not_ weigh a ton.
@Negan Such ideas are the reason we can't have nice things Why would you *destroy* people's cherished things without a single solitery atom of overtone? Nothing personal and i don't wanna be mean, but it's like going to Bugatti's and saying "you should put a spoiler and a bigger turbo to make it go faster" when they literally attained the firmament of automotive engineering, you gotta be in your 14's or something
in my almost three decades of life, this is one of the best games I've ever played. It had its flaws, but I was deeply interested in watching Jason go from a weak frat boy type, to an absolute killer.
Grey Mountain and go completely mad aftetwards choosing to ... or regret it and.. still my favourite game of all time. One of the gems I always go back and replay
Grey Mountain one of the reason I'm so attached to this game is that it's the first game I ever played on the forst PC I built, the first (as strange as it might sound) FPS, the first title I bought on steam. It was 5 bucks. The enjoyment I got out of it.. it was truly amazing. The story was simple and yet perfect since it lets you do whatever you want and you can pick it up again any moment since it's simple. And don't get me started on the hours I lost on the damn poker mini game. If I can give you a tip play it on normal of you like being rambo like or play it on really hard if you want to play stealth. Also go for all the relics after you unlock the flying suit, it all becomes a lot more fun and only a few are tedious to get.
nicola36631 I installed Ziggy's mod for it so I don't really have a HUD, enemy markers, indication markers, stuff like that. it also unlocks all the upgrades and weapon attachments at the beginning so I can progress however I like and not be locked behind barriers.
I almost feel like Vaas really did not like the Culture he came from. He did not want to be the warrior to bear his children with his own sister. But he loves his family. He talks of killing his own sister to end the fucked up culture. But he also says "what are we without family". Very complex and conflicted person.
@@someiraniandudez5886 yeah definitely, there's a lot of things about him that don't blend with what we know of him, there's definitely more to him and his story than we're shown
Watching this in the end of 2019 gives me some serious nostalgia. This was one of the first PS3 games I owned, and reminds me of some of the most fun I had. Also, I forgot how good that game really was, from story to just the in-game animation.
I remember finishing my second play through with the Citra ending and thinking, how pissed is she gonna be if she doesn't even get pregnant now she has killed him.
Actually no that is false incest has a higher chance of defects yes but it isn't a guarantee plus really bad mutations in incest can take generations too be found look at Egypt the 20th queen had an elongated neck but not that bad and that was after multiple generations.
The way I see it: Hoyt epitomes a capitalistic society, whereas Citra epitomes a primitive culture. Both are trying to use Jason as a puppet - only with different strings: In a capitalistic society loyalty is bought with money, in a primitive culture it is attained by taking advantage of the puppet's desire to be powerful and respected. Vaas and Jason mirror each other : Jason is a product of a capitalistic society so he knows how Hoyt is trying to play him, and doesn't therefore fall into his snares, but is blind to how Citra is using him. Vaas goes the same journey, just the other way around. PS. The definition of insanity is refering to the way people are being played in a primitive culture.
that's a poor way of interpreting. Every wannabe artist I see tries to say that whatever art medium they see, is in fact a metaphor for society. Just shut up. You're not deep
ShadowThruNight eh, it's not quite "how he found out" but what he became. What he was pushed into considering the circumstances. He survived. However it was at a cost. (honestly it's kind of a worn out trope, but I still really liked it :) )
Quuke I never played on ps3 I was like too young to understand so I just ran around and killed shit but I played through recently and finished it and it was the best game I’ve ever played
You must be a psychology major or some sort. This was truly amazing. In 20 minutes, Far Cry 3 became the second most complicated story after The Matrix for me.
RealityBreakLV if you thought the matrix was complicated, I don't know what to tell you, other than try reading a book sometime. The matrix was childish, silly, and full of plot holes.
jhk655 I said that it was the most complicated story I had seen. And yes, it was complicated - the problem was, that the last 2 movies could not show what authors meant storywise - it was there, only most people did not see it, therefore though there wasn't anything special about it...
This is exactly why Jason is a great protagonist, I hate all of the people who think he's just some idiotic white kid who picks up a gun and becomes badass, he grows and matures. He must become something more to save his friends, unfortunately losing his sanity throughout, and playing as a man who starts to love killing, who starts losing himself, that's interesting.
His charachter development in the game is 10/10, but he is a kid who picks up a gun and becomes a bad ass too LOL, but isn´t those the best stories anyway?
7:47 notice how the guy in the background does the same thing (kicking the other guy away) over and over again expecting things to change. Pure genius!
@@xKraziKai i felt like a hitman at far cry 5,and at least!!!! In far cry 5 you can customize weapons, and not nut in game to have better level weapon to kill your enemies, that have higher level
On the mission where you kill vaas, he stabs you in the same place that you stab him but you don't die, which I think is implying that Jason is vaas, and in the dialog before you stab him he says " let me be reborn" which I think means that once vaas is dead Jason will take his place.
@@fightingforce8498 no, he was just gone mad, except Vaas fight. Maybe it was gus, or that knife was a needle with drug. Or maybe air in Vaas home was full of drugs from the start, because Vaas itself a druggie, lol
Can’t believe your video is an Easter egg in the vaas insanity dlc in far cry 6. For those who haven’t seen it yet, look around doctor earnhardts house in the dlc. You’ll see a magazine with this videos thumbnail and title as the cover!
@@hystericallover5989 I agree, however, we've seen those stories already. FC3 had a specific storyline, of the protagonist slowly turning into a monster, depending on how you felt and made that one decision at the end of the game. Spec Ops The Line on the other hand was the first time a game made me feel like shit for doing something. Not sure if you've played it, but it ends in a huge mindfuck and you are left to question everything you've done. RDR2 is a classic western story, the reason it works so well is because it's a very long story and it's a prequel. We know the stakes from the first game, now we get to see how did we get here, and honestly, I love that. However, that story would have never worked if the characters weren't done so GREAT! FC3 and Spec Ops had some pretty standard characters, personality wise, and still managed to get you interested in it. Maybe my standards have risen over the years, because of amazing shows and stories i've seen since then, but Witcher also has an amazing storyline for sure. However, these storylines are more grounded, easily relatable, which is why RDR2 was such a treat to play through. You can insert yourself into their positions and when you really think about it, could and would you have done anything differently? Same goes for Spec Ops, Far Cry 3 was more of a "do it or die" sort of a story. In any case, i'd love to use Rockstar's other game, GTA V. That story has been told a thousand times. And don't get me wrong, there are no original stories, only original ways to tell them. In that department, Witcher definitely wins, I think you'd agree. All in all, for me, it all begins with a good ass story. I'm very excited for Cyberpunk 2077, really, really interested in how versatile the game is storywise, as you can pick your background and supposedly will have decision to make throughout the game.
Idk if someone else already said this, but you forget the many quotes from "Alice in Wonderland". They're about insanity, and furthermore come from a book about growing up and finding his (her) identity. This goes perfectly with the rest of your theory :)
I think the definition of insanity is also a good way of talking about the far cry series, everytime we play the game we expect to kick ass and win and everytime when we beat the game you hardly get any real sense of victory you just feel like a fucking villain or anti hero at besy
+radioactiveplums yeah very different. 1 is based more around superpowers instead of gun play. 2 is a realism sim 3 is about going mad. 4 is I don't know really. Primal is about domestication(I don't fucking know anymore)
From a gameplay perspective (which is a pretty big part of a video game IMO) yes I agree. It's still just, climb towers, unlock icons on the map, collect collectibles and upgrade materials... Boring
I think I found out about something. Notice in the scene where Vaas wants to burn Jason and Liza alive. He says that Jason's lighter is shitty and puts it back in his pocket. Later Vaas shoots Jason in the same place where the lighter is which ends up saving him. Maybe Vaas didn't want to kill Jason. He knew Jason was going to become just like him. So instead he uses this to drive him even more insane. Repeating the line with the definition of insanity to toy with him and make him more insase, because once again he fails to kill him. Just like with the burning building, repeating the definition of insanity, trying to kill Jason and expecting things to be diffefent. It could have had an impact on Jason's sanity even more and eventually him becoming Vaas.
@meefjwfhss I Ok basically, Perhaps Vaas throughout the entire game was intentionally letting jason off easy with the attempted kills because he somehow knew what path Jason's mind was going to. Making Jason more insane with the constant repetition. The island has exposed Jason's psyche and because of that, Vaas saw himself in Jason. Thus making Vaas lead on Jason. He was also trying to subtly warn Jason about Citra. Now, there was something about Citra that put should've thrown you the fuck off throughout the game almost immediately, most definitely something involving that jungle warrior psuedo-magic mentality shit that she had going on (or whatever) bothered and disturbed the shit out of Vaas, i never thought of Citra as an ally because she just always put me off, the two distinct endings proved my previous thoughts of her having ill intentions to be factual but basically....Citra had a lifestyle that Vaas evidently wanted absolutely nooooo parts of lol, i'm not exactly sure as to why but i think it was implied throughout the game that it involved incest/carnal relations involving Vaas & Citra and making a "warrior" out of him, which is also one of the BIGGEST reasons as to why Vaas is literally fucking mentally unstable, it has somethinggggg to do with his sister which is why he steers clear the hell away from her. In the majority of his dialogues if you pay close attention... he somehow always brings up the concept of family and the importance of family or blah blah blah, but CLEARLY family definitely plays a huge part and has impacted Vaas mentally, embedding the concept into his mind. But i digress, Jason becomes vaas at the end, and citra kills Jason because he becomes Vaas, he becomes a "warrior". Some real fuck shit...lmaoo
Did you also notice that when Vaas tried to burn Jason and Liza, he gives a speech about loved ones blindsiding you and mentions that he has to make a choice. Who is it going to be, me or them? Jason in the end has to make a choice at the end of the game choosing between his friends and family or staying on the island with Citra. @@Codduct
I could be reading too much into it but I always thought an interesting part of Far Cry was the colour of the character's clothing. Mainly 4 Characters. Jason wears a Blue shirt Grant wears a Red shirt Vaas wears a Red vest Riley wears a Blue shirt From the start of the game there is immediate confrontation between Vaas and Grant. The opening scene of this game sets up so much for what's to come. Jason is helpless, Grant is doing all the work and calming Jason down as they escape. It shows he's a character that's in control, he knows what he wants to do. It's what drives home the sense of abandonment when Vaas kills Grant. As Jason saves more and more of his friends and helps the Rakyat he becomes more of a willing hero. Essentially he's doing everything that he assumes Grant would have done in the same situation. It's clear however that he's becoming closer to Vaas, or at the very least closer to a warrior and native of the island. Vaas and Grant are both capable killers that can handle themselves. Jason starts off as innocent and scared, before growing into a killer. Then when seeing Riley he has a moment of clarity, of releasing that everything isn't as bad he thought, that his brother is still alive and can be saved. It calms him down essentially. The Red vs Blue argument can be taken a step further by looking at fire and water in the same regard. Water is good and calming, fire is rage and destruction. Jason finds the medicine for Daisy in a cave underneath water. Jason and Liza almost die in a burning building, when they are safe the cut scene takes place on a small outcrop with the ocean far off in the background. In the final confrontation with Vaas the last few Vaas hallucinations that attack you are on fire. In the following scene Citra gives you a herbal drink while close to the ocean. Every dream/ drug sequence that contains water is peaceful while the one dream sequence with fire contains a demonic boss fight. And the very final scene Either Jason stays with Citra and they have sex with fiery stone totems in the background, while leaving the island shows the boat in the ocean. A lot of this could easily be coincidence so I could be completely wrong but I think at the very least making Jason and Vaas juxtapose each other with opposite coloured shirts is worth noting.
this game was a masterpiece that filled my brain with tons of questions and unforgetable memories. This is not just a game this is something else that i will remember till the day i die
@@Raulz No no no no no the Rakyat...well according to Cytra were there for hundreds of years. You can even say this from Willis's journal log of the temple, and yes it was Willis the entire time giving Jason info in the journal.
@Jeb Bush there's this theory that we all come from Africa and we spread throughout the globe from there; that would make every civilization's true origin African. Mine was just a reference to that theory.
the definition of insanity.. saving your friends and rejecting Citra.. that's the only way to break the cycle.the cycle that consumed hoyt, vaas and dennis if not.. you're just doing the same thing that all the others did before you you just kept doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results.. that shit.....well that kind of shit..... is just insane
+Ryan Flood As Vaas did not want Jason to die and told Jason the definition of insanity so many times, maybe he wanted Jason to kill Citra and Hoyt to end the... insanity. The cycle is the same thing over and over happening the same, therefore it is insanity and Vaas expected Jason to not let this insanity go on.
and do you know why it's insane? well... the definition of insanity.. saving your friends and rejecting Citra.. that's the only way to break the cycle.the cycle that consumed hoyt, vaas and dennis if not.. you're just doing the same thing that all the others did before you you just kept doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results.. that shit.....well that kind of shit..... is just insane... and do you know why it's insane? well... Apparently there was supposed to be a segment where one of the times Jason is fighting Vaas, he 'kills' Vaas but it actually ends up being his one friend with the glasses and beanie, and it was cut. That's why you never hear anything about that guy or what happened to him, other than Vaas saying at the beginning "Did you want me to slice you open like I did your friend?" which may have been added after.
this is is like the seventh time I've watched this video and I still find it amazing how you managed to get all this info together and make sense of it and in a way which makes people want to either replay or play the game I showed my friend this video he's first thing he said was holy shit I want this game and then how many subs does he have fucking is that it for this video alone he deserves atleast 500k
+manja warior Yeah, in small steps! This channel is about theory and in-depth looks into games and movies, so if interesting essays are your thing give my other videos a shot.
I revisit this video every year to be reminded of how great a game Far Cry 3 actually was. Also, that background score, man, I can't even begin to describe how well it's been made to suit this game's take on Vaa/Jason's character transformation.
I want Far Cry 6 to be Jasons nephew or something going back to the island to find out what happened to Jason. And Jason ends up becoming an even more sadistic version of Vaas
This is an absolutely stunning deconstruction and interpretation of an already fascinating video game character, I really have to give you credit here. The way you presented both your argument and your personal opinions kept me hooked and interested right through to the end, and you've really encouraged me to re-play Far Cry 3 in an attempt to see some of your ideas for myself (or hypothesize new ones). Initially, I felt like FC3 was a fairly interesting shooter: Brilliant in theory, but lacking in execution. With the help of this really insightful look into the psychology of the characters themselves, I think you've persuaded me to overlook the (in my opinion) inconsistent tone of the game. So thank you for making this. It's really given me food for thought.
A really heroic game it is.I don't think that even "Ubisoft" understood the whole game after making it.The conclusion that Far cry 3 gives is very important for life.
@@TheMessi2014 it don't matter if you save your friends, you stil have some of vaas's personality inside you, rememeber vaas was like jason in the beggining, that's why he sort of ''help'' you in your journey, so don't matter what you choose you still have some of him left in jason
The thing you don't realize right off the bat is that Vaas and Dennis were both manipulated by Citra at some point. Vaas was born on the island and grew up knowing their culture. Well maybe he didn't know every detail. Since it becomes apparent that he turned away from his family and home to instead side with Hoyt. Knowing the final step of being a "Warrior" and feeling betrayed by his family. Realizing he was only being raised to be slaughtered he took his only other choice. This and the sick events that Hoyt more than likely placed him in caused him to go mad. Dennis on the other hand is also like Jason because he too was stranded on the island and manipulated by Citra. He unlike Vaas and Jason though did not have the necessary skills and failed being a "Warrior". Instead he was shoved to the side and Jason took his place. More or less. The signs are very subtle in the game but if you can spot them you'll see the proof. Dennis gets drunk and proclaims Citra is with him when he sees Jason achieving goals and the praise that he obviously did not. Later he also tries to kill you depending on the ending because after all that you didn't choose Citra. Unlike Dennis; you weren't completely manipulated. Vaas' clues on the other hand are more confusing but if you actually listen to some of his ranting; you'll start to hear him say something about how family fucks you over and him comparing Jason to himself. Mentioning briefly on Jasons developing tatu. In a lot of ways Vaas is a fallen "hero" turned twisted. He had two choices. Kill Hoyt and whatever else was a driving problem and then be sacrificed via "Warrior sex ritual" taught by tradition. Or side with an evil man who does every evil thing under the sun but hey Vaas can continue living in some twisted fucked up way with all his new skills as a killer. Can't honestly blame him for taking Hoyts side on this. Yet all these reasons and more is what drove him into madness. Constantly staying strong to please Hoyt and stay alive. A part of him maybe even felt guilty for not following tradition. Yet he was torn between life and death. Tradition and Pride. Also when Jason goes to kill Vaas. It's almost like he's warning him without actually saying it. "We're so fucked Jason." "She's gonna make a warrior out of you." The theory IMO is correct due to this and the mirroring ideas. Vaas sees Jason as his redemption and yet he can't admit to any of that because well, he's bat shit crazy and two. He wants to live. Yet living means killing his redemption. As for whether Jason was really stabbed by Vaas or not i'd have to say yes. Yet I also believe he was drugged by Citra to guarantee Jasons victory. He goes into a trip after being stabbed and then after stabbing Vaas both Vaas and Jason collapse. This is because Jason is starting to die due to his stab wound. Yet the tribe saves him because they still need Jason to kill Hoyt. It places you the common person just like Jason; into a situation where you feel what the character is feeling. The first person view in this game is completely justified by this fact. Even though Jason is a character you ARE Jason. What you feel is what he feels. You are being manipulated just like Jason is. This is why the game can get so confusing at times. Sorry this was so long but for a game like this. Yeah.
But how do to explain the fact that in your 2nd hallucination you se Buck turning in to Jason for a moment, dose that mean you are also becoming like Buck? And also, why do you see Riley turning in to Jason And where did vaas get the ancient knife frome??? Lots of people say it is because Citra passed the knife to Vaas, but the problem is that there is no proves for this, the game dose not give you a single clue that Citra gived the knife to Vaas. The game has lots of secrets but it always gives you clues about what is going on, but it dose not give you probes that Citra gived you the knife So, what is going???
somthing interesting: vaas is dutch for vase, if we look at a definition of vase: a vessel, as of glass, porcelain, earthenware, or metal, usually higher than it is wide, used chiefly to hold cut flowers or for decoration. OR a vessel used as an ornament or for holding cut flowers. cut flowers Always come back. this could mean that Vaas' personality has been cut by someone else and now can't leave he's domain. also a vase is very vulnerable and easy to break after it falls down, so what they want to say is "you need to break the vase to free the flowers" or "you need to kill Vaas to free him
I've beat fc3 at least 3 times. Ive always wondered why "You are me and I am you" and "We are so fucked Jason" were so interesting. I've thought ab it recently and jeez I love this theory. FC3 will always be one of my most favorite games ever created.
It's a pity that so many people overlook the great character development in Far Cry 3 and focus on a stupid race angle of a white guy saving tribesmen. This is Jason's personal story of finding his true self from beginning to end, you can't do an arc like that if the protagonist is familiar with the environment. Those whiners got what they wanted with FC4: a protagonist completely devoid of personality or character development, but this time it's OK because he's asian and from Kyrat, even though he left as a toddler and comes in just as oblivious to the indigenous values and struggles as Jason.
I thought the same thing as well. The way I look at it, is that each FC after 1 wanted to convey different but strong narratives. FC2 was almost a video game version of the book called Heart of Darkness of a man that devoided himself humanity. To react and see how far a person is willing to go for the sake of self gains. FC3, to me anyways was about the loss of innocence as well as finding ones own identity as the video suggested. FC4, to me was the perception of what qualifies as duty or tradition. To know the roots of one's world and to know what could they adapt or accept for what it is. All I know is that FC5 will offer an different way of viewing the human condition. And I can't fucking wait.
Tony Curtis I don't know… Ajay doesn't really change much in the story. The whole story he is pretty much ASAP being manipulated by people with agendas. The only thing that really changes is that in the beginning he is reluctant to participate in the fight but gradually gets invested in it. The decisions you make don't even have a very significant and noticeable effect in the end. Whoever you choose to side with you get a raw deal.
@@logdotzippy7671 @Adwin Samp my bad guys, I didn't mean it like that. I meant to say that they should make a book about Far Cry 3 theories and philosophies. Once again, sorry for giving u false hope. Sorry! I wish there was more about Far Cry 3 too...

Citra and Vaas are half-siblings only and I believe they have a different father. Vaas was born to be the rakyat leader even though his name (Montenegro) tells of spanish origin. As the Rook island is east to New Zeland, but still being Vaas' birthplace, I believe Vaas' father came to the island like Jason and met the same fate in the hands of Vaas' and Citra's mother.
+Tarek Rahou Montenegro was part of Serbia until 2006, yes. Or if you meant the person, Vaas is of spanish origin. He even uses spanish words such as 'hermano' meaning little brother. And correct me if I'm wrong (I might as well be) Serbia is a slavic country and their language isn't related to spanish.
TheEagleOfLightAndNight You're right, but hermano is very common in English as well, he also uses french words in the game, they're just expressions. And yes you got a point, serbian language isn't related to spanish.
Or a hint that he's way more fragile than he seems. Both physically, and emotionally. I mean, all it takes is just a little annoyance, and then, Angry Vaas Noises.
Yes Ik it takes place during the Stone Age. I'm saying all the gameplay is the EXACT same thing. Now Ik they don't use a different engine but cmon man. What I mean is, the bow is the EXACT same thing, when you climb, takedowns, etc. Primal yes is a bit different but that's because they took out cars, guns, English, etc. oh and I forgot, throwing sting bombs in primal or rocks, and bait, is the same thing as grenades in the others. Don't call me a hater because I'm playing primal and beat far cry 4. It's just the gameplay is the same as 3 & 4.
I think the one thing that killed Far Cry 4's progression the most is the fact that most of us were already in ''Rambo Mode'' from having previously played Far Cry 3. Without that prior experience, most of us would just be ''Jason'' again.
After seeing the Far Cry 6 Vaas Insanity DLC, this theory is seen in the DLC in almost every way. It's so crazy and I think this theory is what Ubisoft intended Far Cry 3 to mean.
What's the chance that Ubisoft somehow saw this video and actually decided to make it canon (like how they kinda confirmed that The Jackal from Far Cry 2 is Jack Carver).
@@albanesdesempregado7080I read a comment higher up in the comment section that says that there's a magazine in the dlc with the thumbnail of this video. So maybe they did take some inspiration from this video

Ryan Hollinger still dude I admire your theory but you've forgotten to explain if he takes the good ending my theory is that if you choose the good ending is when finally Jason starts realizing his own insanity is when Vass wons because he basically done what he wanted and it's finally when Jason is starting to recover his mind Vass wons why? He killed Citra and Hoyt ( the greatest evils on the island) Jason starts to recover why he found is brothers there is no1 to manipulate him and in the end he says that there's still a better part of him that's still better than "him" and I guess he still might get back to civilization since he misses his brother bla bla bla
Game Force dude jason's momologue when the boat is driving away and the japanese knife is in the sand. he says he doesnt know if he can ever go back, and that the island has consumed him. hence why you still free roam after the final mission and you save your friends
When I first saw the video I thought it was that bullshit theory which says that Jason=Vaas(but, literaly, that they're the same person). I think this video should not say 'far cry 3 theory',but maybe 'far cry 3 explained'. I went trough the game like 4 times and I have to confess that, some things like Vaas precoce death were still not totally understandable to me,but this video confirmed my thoughts. Excellent video mate.

you cant be more right brother. new far cry games dont have any soul like far cry 3 did, far cry 5 was pure shit compared to it. its like a game for the kids with stupid characters, stupid and childish soundtracks, jokes, everything about it was pure childish and not serious at all. when i played it i didnt feel intensity nor was i interesnted at all what will happen next. far cry 5 is a pure shit with good graphics and nothing more. far cry 3 had worse graphics but it stil looked way better and more alive than that stupid countryside in 5. far cry 4 is a little better than 5 and has a litle atmosphere and soul but not even close to far cry 3. in conclusion far cry 3 is far the best game in the series and for me, on the pair with metro series, best game ever. you should all try metro series if you liked far cry 3
This theory is just amazing, i mean damn this is good analysis. I never knew the game could go so deep its mind blowing with some of the references you made with the names and the surroundings and his constant falling in the game. Great work, very good work and yes you deserve more credit for this.
personally i'd love to play a prequel that goes in depth on how hoyt and his privateer's slowly took over the island, how the rakyt were dealing with it, why vaas left the tribe and how citra and vaas's relationship as siblings eventually broke down, how vaas formed his group of pirates and delved further into insanity, etc. there's so many things that could be explored and the chance to expand on characters and their relationships to each other. an example would be i'd love to see some scenes with vaas interacting with his sister citra, there's a lot of plot potential there; hell i'd even like to see some more vaas and hoyt interactions as we barely got that in far cry 3. there's so many fresh storylines and plot points that could revolve around this to make it an amazing game to play through as well as shed some more light on each characters reasoning's and how they ended up as they are.
But one thing that you didn't cover, when Vaas stabs Jason, Jason pulls out the knife (the decorative one that Vaas somehow had?) and what comes out resembles Golden Ichor, perhaps? According to Greek mythology, Gods bleed golden ichor instead of blood. Maybe this shows that Jason is somehow immune to Vaas actions or that he has completely figured out why Vaas does what he does with Jason? Also, before the final confrontation with Vaas, the game reinforces Vaas' definition of insanity by having the player kill over a dozen charging Vaas' And a little thing, the second after Jason stabs Vaas, Vaas' face relaxes, he almost smiles as if given clarity.
The soundtrack alone makes me emotional. I remember walking home from school so I could get on my ps3 and take out pirate outpost and liberate radio towers. I loved this game.
its funny cause i played it for the first time last week and i was sure there was a "twist" like Vaas or Dennis is actually Jason, like Tyler Durden in Fight Club
Cognition is a HUGE piece of what shapes the story of this game. Especially when liberating outposts & or even Radio Towers . Its all based on how creative the player is when it comes to playing said game. Nice video !
I know this video and game is old but it's probably my favorite single player game ever. I've now watched this video 4 times and love it every single time. I know no one will see this comment since this is old but give it a thumbs up so that maybe Ryan may see it. ok, so did some research and played through the game a few times found out some more info about the topic. At 6:20 , Vaas says "hermano" I searched this up and it means "brother" in Spanish. So perhaps he is referencing that they are the same? I found that myself but this next part I cannot take credit for. So does anyone remember the scene where someone shoots down the helicopter and then Vaas shoots you? I was always confused as of how he survived. So i searched it up and I found some interesting information about it. So it turns out it was a lighter, which makes sense I guess. But, in the scene where he tries to burn you alive - He puts a lighter in your pocket. Now did he do this on purpose to allow Jason to live and become stronger? Like you sound, maybe he wanted Jason to become stronger and defeat him and Hoyt? idk, upvote this so more people can see it, thanks!
Saying hermano its like an american saying bro or dude, its just an expression. In Mexico we also say carnal, wich refers to someone as your brother. I think its natural for humans to say stuff like that even between different languages
I really appreciate the amount of time you took for analysis of some of the smallest elements in the game. This analysis kind of content is what i love the most. Continue doing bro👍
This video made me look at this game a whole new way. A started this game again after a year and I've never considered this. I just love this game even more now.
Ryan. Also when Jason killed Hoyt, there is an upside down cross made by the knives in Hoyt's head. This is probably a reference to St. Peter's cross, being that he claimed to be unworthy to die the same way the savior did. So is it possible that the inverted cross was symbolic being that it should have been Vaas who killed Hoyt?
i didn't had a cross of 2 knifes at the end. My end was 1 knife in his head and 1 from the side of his stomach. But yeah it is also a somewhat bigger cross ;p
I chose to stay because who would ever let those douchebag "friends" of his walk away alive? Between the rich boy, the stoner, the girlfriend, the jock, and the McGuffin, Daisy was the only one really worth saving because she could fix the boat. She was actively helping to try to escape, instead of just being a stereotype sitting around in a cave.
or if he killed jason, it would be like killing himself. And even if he was going insane at the time, letting jason live was the only thing letting him remember who he used to be
Woahh.. awesome video 💥.. best analysis of a game ever seen.. keep it up👍🏻.. I never thought there would be so much to a game... But i was intrigued with the start menu mirror and gun save loading animation at first
Great video! As a schizophrenic and some one who makes youtube videos on schizophrenia I feel that we are always struggling with these issues and see the lines blur more than most!
I had the same theory when Vaas said that he wanted to be reborn. I kinda scratched my head, then figured everything out before I met Sam. But the questions I still have is, do the tattoos actually contain drugs/hallucinogens to trick Jason into thinking that's he's becoming stronger? The tatau may have something funky going on with it.
While i do wish Vaas somehow came back in a hallucination. I actually love how he dies part way through... to me it was a symbol of how Jason was losing his grasp of his former self. By killing the very evil that motivated him and kept him "good", he became a warrior. After that the game felt empty, of course because of a lack of vaas, but also because Jason then felt like a changed man, a killing machine. I didn't give a shit about saving the rest of his friends, because they were only what the old Jason cared about. I do wish Vaas came back later in a hallucination or something, but i think it's his death that made him so thought provoking.
This is the kind of video that makes me want to scream "YES, EXACTLY" every 5 seconds. Good job. And FINALLY someone else who sees the connection between the sexual references in Vaas' dialogue and the trauma caused by his incestuous relationship with his sister!

I just realised why killing your friends and staying on an island is even a choice:
It's either Jason realises that he's perpetuating a cycle and breaks the loop, or he doesn't because he's gone too far.
Vaas warned us. We either listen to him, or ignore his warnings and suffer the same fate.
So killing his friends is ending the cycle? Or saving his friends and leaving ends it?
It might be that the cycle ends either way
It doesn't matter if Jason gets cut open by Citra or leaves the island and dies of old age haunted by images of men he killed
he never told anyone the definition
of insanity

@@mitchrusso8938 there are two endings 1 you save your friends and leave with them and 2 you kill them and Citra kills you as shown in the video. But you can still play after you finish the story it's just that it's not canon to the main story.
@@average_enjoyer and Ending 3 where you run into the jungle to finally upgrade your leopard skin handbag?!
Also, BLITZKRIEEEEEEEEEEEGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!

nicola36631 I spent a few years away from this game, I'm replaying it on PC now and enjoying it quite a bit.

I fucking hate the game, I love the story, but damn FUCK THE TOWERS!
I almost feel like Vaas really did not like the Culture he came from. He did not want to be the warrior to bear his children with his own sister. But he loves his family. As if she didn't get knocked up by his POWERFUL WHITE SEED
The way I see it:
Hoyt epitomes a capitalistic society, whereas Citra epitomes a primitive culture.
Wow, this...this is really well thought out.
that's a poor way of interpreting. Every wannabe artist I see tries to say that whatever art medium they see, is in fact a metaphor for society. Just shut up. You're not deep
I do think that Far Cry 3 represents the way how Jason finds out who he really is.
ShadowThruNight eh, it's not quite "how he found out" but what he became. What he was pushed into considering the circumstances. He survived. However it was at a cost. (honestly it's kind of a worn out trope, but I still really liked it :) )

@@AvesZephyros idk man, red dead 2 and wild hunt have good writing
And Hot Line Miami great year for the exploration of violance

Nah , I think it was just a coincidence.
Thats some fucking heavy mind shit

I could be reading too much into it but I always thought an interesting part of Far Cry was the colour of the character's clothing.
Mainly 4 Characters.
Jason wears a Blue shirt
Grant wears a Red shirt
Vaas wears a Red vest
Riley wears a Blue shirt
From the start of the game there is immediate confrontation between Vaas and Grant.
And the very final scene
Either Jason stays with Citra and they have sex with fiery stone totems in the background, while leaving the island shows the boat in the ocean.
A lot of this could easily be coincidence so I could be completely wrong but I think at the very least making Jason and Vaas juxtapose each other with opposite coloured shirts is worth noting.

I chose the friends, because i didn't wanted to be like vaas. I'd like to be a warrior with my own identity, not vaas.
@@TheMessi2014 thats the beauty. Its up to the player to find his own meaning to what he has done and how should Jason go forward.
Yeah.
+Onizuma13
Good job.. You figured it out.
Would you like a cookie or a car battery?
But how do to explain the fact that in your 2nd hallucination you se Buck turning in to Jason for a moment, dose that mean you are also becoming like Buck?
And also, why do you see Riley turning in to Jason
And where did vaas get the ancient knife frome???
Lots of people say it is because Citra passed the knife to Vaas, but the problem is that there is no proves for this, the game dose not give you a single clue that Citra gived the knife to Vaas. The game has lots of secrets but it always gives you clues about what is going on, but it dose not give you probes that Citra gived you the knife
So, what is going???

somthing interesting: vaas is dutch for vase, if we look at a definition of vase: a vessel, as of glass, porcelain, earthenware, or metal, usually higher than it is wide, used chiefly to hold cut flowers or for decoration. OR a vessel used as an ornament or for holding cut flowers. cut flowers Always come back. this could mean that Vaas' personality has been cut by someone else and now can't leave he's domain. also a vase is very vulnerable and easy to break after it falls down, so what they want to say is "you need to break the vase to free the flowers" or "you need to kill Vaas to free him
How high r u?
I loved both of them myself

I don't know… Ajay doesn't really change much in the story.
"Take me into your heart

Citra and Vaas are half-siblings only and I believe they have a different father. Vaas was born to be the rakyat leader even though his name (Montenegro) tells of spanish origin. As the Rook island is east to New Zeland, but still being Vaas' birthplace, I believe Vaas' father came to the island like Jason and met the same fate in the hands of Vaas' and Citra's mother.
Is Rook Island real?
Montenegro is serbian
+Tarek Rahou
Montenegro was part of Serbia until 2006, yes.

But that would be Far Cry 3 all over again, this is what this video is trying to show.

He killed Citra and Hoyt ( the greatest evils on the island) Jason starts to recover why he found is brothers there is no1 to manipulate him and in the end he says that there's still a better part of him that's still better than "him" and I guess he still might get back to civilization since he misses his brother bla bla bla

When I first saw the video I thought it was that bullshit theory which says that Jason=Vaas(but, literaly, that they're the same person). Vaas drugged Jason and he just halucinated...or did he?
I think it's not a hallucination, it's his insanity. Like when he leaves the trip he sees what he has done, of which we saw absolutely none of. It's beautifully done because it leaves speculation.

personally i'd love to play a prequel that goes in depth on how hoyt and his privateer's slowly took over the island, how the rakyt were dealing with it, why vaas left the tribe and how citra and vaas's relationship as siblings eventually broke down, how vaas formed his group of pirates and delved further into insanity, etc. there's so many things that could be explored and the chance to expand on characters and their relationships to each other. an example would be i'd love to see some scenes with vaas interacting with his sister citra, there's a lot of plot potential there; hell i'd even like to see some more vaas and hoyt interactions as we barely got that in far cry 3. there's so many fresh storylines and plot points that could revolve around this to make it an amazing game to play through as well as shed some more light on each characters reasoning's and how they ended up as they are.
thanks dude you just made this game 10 times more creepy for me and reinforce my want to play the game again
Also, before the final confrontation with Vaas, the game reinforces Vaas' definition of insanity by having the player kill over a dozen charging Vaas'
And a little thing, the second after Jason stabs Vaas, Vaas' face relaxes, he almost smiles as if given clarity.
The soundtrack alone makes me emotional. I remember walking home from school so I could get on my ps3 and take out pirate outpost and liberate radio towers. I loved this game.

Your picture is insanity
I only chose to stay on the island for the Sex scene.
I'm ashamed
I had 5 year olds in the room and my uncles when the first sex scene with citra came on after beating the deamon lmao. was so embarrased
I chose to stay because who would ever let those douchebag "friends" of his walk away alive?
Between the rich boy, the stoner, the girlfriend, the jock, and the McGuffin, Daisy was the only one really worth saving because she could fix the boat. She was actively helping to try to escape, instead of just being a stereotype sitting around in a cave.
if Vaas sees himself in Jason then he knows Jason gonna kill him, that means Vaas didn't tried to kill Jason all the time he just trained Jason.
Nah he really wanted to kill "the white boy"
@@lavish263team5 He would have if he wanted to
@@yela7335 eh did you even understand what he said
or if he killed jason, it would be like killing himself. And even if he was going insane at the time, letting jason live was the only thing letting him remember who he used to be

Two bears high fiving?
MrNoobDude Fallout. :')
Jeffrey Iversen HAHA! Yes! Wasn't even an option tho xD
Ξ n s u. The mod for the option became so popular that they named a Dead Horse tribe member in Honest Hearts Two-Bears-High-Fiving.

Far Cry 4 isnt as deep as 3 :'(. Its up to the Son of Kyrat I guess to bring back that deepness. Hint hint nudge nudge
Antwone Jackson Right on over the Far Cry 4 analysis then: ruclips.net/video/bwwF-hHTGhg/видео.html ... ;)
Ryan Hollinger I watched it man. Now I'm enjoying Far Cry 4 more than before.
Wont happen, Sorry. The fact they gave you a choice to embrace what Jason had become or what he was is a blatent indication that is the end.
This was riveting to watch.
And has made me rethink my interpretation of FC3 as being a player of over 50 play throughs.
Excellently presented.
Vass is one of the greatest characters is gaming history
And I just realized I spelt his name wrong. It's vaas. I think
I like this video. This is a nice fucking video.
lol, i sense a vaas reference here hahaha
Alexander Angelus yeah there is because at the start Vaas said to Jason this is a nice phone this is a nice fucking phone
Alexander Angelus I like this comment, this is a nice fucking comment 😐👍
Alexander Angelus nice refference
Woahh.. awesome video 💥.. best analysis of a game ever seen.. keep it up👍🏻.. I never thought there would be so much to a game... But i was intrigued with the start menu mirror and gun save loading animation at first
I want this remastered for ps4 so bad
Exactly
+Jason Hellemons So what?
It really wouldn't be that different. Just play it on PC.
I hope it becomes backwards compatible on Xbox but the only downside would be that PS4 players wouldn't be able to play it
A remaster would be great.
That beginning theme always gives me good vibes.
Great video! As a schizophrenic and some one who makes youtube videos on schizophrenia I feel that we are always struggling with these issues and see the lines blur more than most!
This theory was remarkable, you shone a new light on Far Cry 3 for me.
I do wish Vaas came back later in a hallucination or something, but i think it's his death that made him so thought provoking.
well...
This is the kind of video that makes me want to scream "YES, EXACTLY" every 5 seconds. Good job.
And FINALLY someone else who sees the connection between the sexual references in Vaas' dialogue and the trauma caused by his incestuous relationship with his sister!
