About Vince and his relationship to his son Shane... at one point it seemed that Shane was destined to continue the family work that started with Jess McMahon and Vince McMahon senior in 1950s, Vince Jr took over the product in 1982. But for some reason Shane is not the one who is in charge. It's Vince's son in law Paul "Triple H" Levesque. And that's a shame. Shane had so many great ideas that were implemented eventually in WWE programming... like an idea of internet show (NXT as a developmental brand started as a internet show and was that until 2020 when NXT was brought up to be on USA Network). He also wanted to have an alternative brand to what RAW and SmackDown was (WWE ECW and NXT at some points were exactly what Shane wanted as an alternative). Shane was the one who took CRAZY bumps (like those awful suplexes that Kurt Angle was delivering on Shane at King of the Ring 2001 PPV. The plan was to use a gimmicked panels with sugar glass... but for some reasons those panels were not gimmicked and it took multiple attempts to break them, Shane landed on concrete awkwardly multiple times (including some moments when he landed on his head after suplexes that didn't break the panel) and was a bloody mess. Vince actually was thinking about stopping the match after a few botched suplexes and awarding Kurt a victory, but the match ended as planned in the ring. Or the jump Shane made at WrestleMania 32 in the Hell in a Cell match against The Undertaker (thank God the table was gimmicked with safety cushions that made the fall way safer in the end). Shane is the the most talented McMahon (even more talented that his father), but it seems that nobody likes him... and that's a shame. Shane is the one McMahon that is not full of crap like Stephanie or Vince, or Linda for being in Trump's cabinet... The one reason why Shane is not loved is that he left WWE to work on another businesses like Ideanomics that he founded in 2004 or You on Demand. He realized that Triple H was getting more and more involved with backstage work at that time so he knew that he was not seen as a successor of business and he realized that he needs to leave the company.

Actually that "I quit" match between Vince and Stephanie was the way to write Stephanie off TV as she was about to officially marry Paul "Triple H" Levesque. They were already a married couple in storyline but in reality it took them almost four years after they became a married couple in storyline to became a married couple in real life. What a way to write someone off... Vince knew no limits when it came to do some crazy stuff.

Usually villains in wrestling end up being pretty nice guys IRL. Edge, the Rock, Triple H, Stephanie, and even Randy Orton later in his career come to mind. But Vince might be one of the few wrestling villains who's actually worse in real life lol. I'm surprised that one segment didn't make. He walks up to John Cena, who at this moment was still doing his rapper gimmick, and Vince starts talking "jive" to him. Then he goes "Keep it up, my n****", walks away from John Cena, walks past Booker T and his wife (both black WWE superstars), and stares Booker T in the face as he's walking away lol.

I love the product to a extent, and while Vince elevated Wwe by being the luckiest wrestling booker in recent memory.
The consensus amongst people who know him is that he's a literal piece of sh!t. His heinous actions has justifiably earned him the ire of the rational fan base of wrestling.
His hostile takeover to sell WWE to highest bidder who will accept the clause that Vince is the head director till death or imprisonment.
Sadly Vince McMahon is actually worse in real life!

Vince has to be one of the wackiest people ever. An extremely rich man and the owner of the WWE, and yet had no issue going out and getting humiliated, beaten up, and bloodied just to make memorable television.

And yes, Vince was a madman, but his madness is the reason why WWE is a global phenomenon right now. He destroyed a regional system of small promotions working for a bigger alliance (National Wrestling Alliance) and made wrestling popular on TV once again. After a boom period in 50s wrestling wasn't that popular on TV until late 90s, thanks to WWE and WCW having a "war" on Mondays with their flagship TV shows RAW and Nitro going head-to-head on USA Network and TNT respectively (RAW moved to TNN (later known as Spike TV, now known as Paramount Network) in 2000 and stayed on this channel until 2005 then came back to USA Network and still airs to this very day. WCW is no more thanks to them being a bit too crazy with their decisions. WWF managed to walk the rope just the right way to not fall to their horrific death... (but one wrestler died due to the rope not holding him tight when he was 70 feet above the ring, I'm talking about Owen Hart, who died at WWF Over the Edge PPV on May 23, 1999). WCW was bought by Vince McMahon and became a part of huge library that WWE has with many other promotions that WWE owns rights to.
I recommend watching "The iconic feud between Trish Stratus and Mickie James" One of the best told stories in WWE.

Yes, the segment with Vince blowing himself up happened on June 11, 2007, but the ceremony was scheduled for June 25, 2007 episode of RAW but the whole show was cancelled because of what happened with Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy and his son Daniel. At first the thought was that it was a freak accident that all three were dead... but under further investigation it was ruled as a double murder-suicide as Chris killed his son and wife and then took his own life before June 24, 2007 PPV WWE Vengeance: Night of Champion took place where Benoit was scheduled to face CM Punk for the vacant ECW World Heavyweight Championship. But Benoit no showed the event (that was unheard of for Benoit, he always was on the show). The timing of Vince faking his death was so unfortunate... Actually four days after Vince "blew himself up" WWE Legend Sherry Martel passed away after she overdosed on multiple drugs including Oxycodone, on the same day as Benoit was found dead his former tag team partner Biff Wellington was also found dead... June of 2007 was a dark month for professional wrestling.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like you're about ready to actually start watching some actual matches. I admit I'm a bit biased as I'm a long-time Undertaker fan, but I think a good starting point would be Undertaker vs. Mankind in a Hell in a Cell match. It's considered by many to be an all-time classic match. There's even a video on WWE's channel where the two of them go back and rewatch it together while giving commentary on things they were thinking and feeling at the time. Professional wrestling is often outrageous and WWE's "sports entertainment" is the most over the top historically. It has the athleticism and the sports part but It's also a comedy and a drama, it's like reality TV and a talk show, there's romance and vengeance, happiness and sadness and anger and everything in between. Wrestling in general is a very underrated TV product, it has everything.
