This song makes me feel like an old weary warrior, heading into my last battle. Like I’m so stoic and I’ve seen it all and I’m ready to die but there’s still a tiny spark inside of me, a spark of resilience. Like I can still allow myself to mock my enemy because I’m a fucking legend. Man, I need to get a life. A magnificent song though!
To me, this song is about standing up to peer pressure and conformity. The lines "ghost horses" imply that it's not a physical battle, but one taking place inside the person's thoughts. They resisting the negativity, tyranny, and propanganda the world around them promotes, even if they're alone in this fight. They know they're actions can inspire others to resist.
This song does something to me. I cant describe in words the emotions i feel when i listen to it. It's such a beautiful song. (Thanks to Peaky Blinders for introducing me to it!)
No, no, no, these lyrics are all wrong, it's; come ahhh, come ahhh, yoah roman empire, come ah if you think you cah take us oah, you and you a your conies yah sa you gorgeh your ah yahfneucndj... and it continues drunkenly from there

You and your cronies You forget so easily We ride tonight We ride tonight Ghost horses Ghost horses We ride tonight We ride tonight Ghost horses Ghost horses Ghost horses
Less Captain Obvious and more Captain Misses The Point. :P Thom is a politically active guy. This is about government. "You and your cronies" echoes of government cronyism. "Holy Roman Empire" paints a picture of a bloated, crumbling empire. "Come on if you think you can take us on" and "You forget so easily" reflects the idea/potential of revolution.
This song makes me think about the world, and how fucked up it is. Gets me wondering what the purpose of humanity is on earth. why are we here? to die? So many questions and so little real answers.
Radiohead have that effect on me too. I wondered what the purpose of humanity is on earth and I have decided it's to look after the planet and all the other species on it (considering we are fucking up the environment and facing mass extinction). Yes we are mortal and die but some are lucky enough to have children and the cycle of life continues. The truth is out there.and I wish you luck in finding some answers.

In the UK when I grew up we had playground chants similar to this - “Come and have a go if you think you’re hard enough - we’ll take you all on - well take on the Holy Roman Empire - etc”. So I guess it’s a song about fighting, human violence and it’s roots in the school playground. I’m not sure what ghost horses refers to, perhaps these carry us into wars?
@@MrMusicbyMartin human violence does not have roots in the playground son, it is the very old, very wealthy super rich who are fully invested in guns, bmbs, tanks and need to manufacture wars to shift their awful ungodly product, humanity is naturally peaceful, lazy, chill and relaxed and has to be forced into killing strangers, by lies, propaganda, conscription and payment
