I hope others that have a coveted NM oryx tag watch this video for exactly what NOT to do. The other animals were too close, especially the one directly behind the target animal. While it appears the bullet didn't pass through, for all intents and purposes that was a perfect recipe for two wounded oryx. Also, shot placement is horrible. While it doesn't appear so because the animal dropped in its tracks, note it's still breathing when he walks up. Oryx spines dive toward their throat from years of evolution where lions hop on the back and bite for the spine. He threaded the needle and actually hit the spine. 99 times out of 100, this leads to many miles of tracking without recovering the animal. Do better.
that’s what every ass hat who takes a bad shot would say. How could he be in such a different angle when he’s just following you? Not like he’s anywhere but beside you.
congrats on the oryx and it was such a incredible place to hunt them. a true fair chase hunt for sure. please send me info on your elk hunts when you get a chance .👍
That wasn't just stupid it was absolute ignorance to shoot that Oryx with another one on the other side. A few of my rifles have so much power they can kill one animal then the bullets do a pass through and would kill another animal. My 300 Wby mag and especially shooting the copper expanding bullets would kill multipole animals from bullets pass through. The custom long range Brevex Mauser I own in 8mm-378 Wby mag has so much power I wouldn't at all be surprised if 3 animals are lined up and bullet pass through on all 3 from using the Barns X bullets I still have in 200 and 220 grain.
@@dalebenson6859 the angle of the cameraman and where i was were different. having hunted over 300 species worldwide, got a little bit of experience. always make sure to have a clear target when multiple animals around.

My first thought was that this guide is probably so annoyed to be prepared with camo, and his hunter shows up in solid black. Also mentioned how hot it was. What a fool. Then he shot while there was another animal directly behind. They all laugh and pretend that it was executed perfectly. Just awful lol. And the music…
lot to unpack here. had my kryptek camo and gear but my bag did not make it and had only two days to hunt!! hunted with the clothes i flew in with and yes it was hot!! the shot angle that the camera captured is different than my angle with gun. i have hunted more than most and would not take a shot without a clear background. the bull was clear from my angle and it was a clean one shot kill on a very tough animal. this was one of the first videos we did and hope the music choices have improved. it was a amazing free range hunt !!
Nice oryx, but horrible not waiting for the animal to clear behind him before shooting. Where did you learn to hunt?!
I don’t think he ever learned!

I agree, horrible shot placement, he got exceptionally lucky.
He is a what not to do guy.🤣
Don't like the fact that another Bull standing directly behind that one!! Not a very ethical hunter in my book!!

Oryx in New Mexico, you learn something new everyday! I have been fortunate enough to hunt the impressive antelope in Namibia!
A fantastic place to hunt it. Oryx in the desert of New Mexico is a great conservation story.
Beautiful old bull!
Thanks mike!!! A very unique set of horns. Great hunt in some amazing country.
Yes sir!!! Great place.
