    Being Vegetarian myself your attempts at outdoor vegetarian cooking are most welcome and most inspiring. I now need to persuade my wife that we fore-sake our usual cold packed lunch and embrace cooking alfresco when we next do some Chiltern hikes.
    Your wine at sunset endings are always the icing on the cake. This one was a belter. Thank you Tweedy. 👏👏👍😀🍷🌞

      Thanks Andrew! There are of course downsides to this kind of al fresco cooking - even on a daytime hike I seem to end up with a surprisingly full backpack! ...but I do enjoy it, I like the challenge of seeing what I can do with very basic cooking equipment, and as a nice side effect it forces me to stay in one place for a longer period of time and really appreciate my surroundings!

      @@tweedyoutdoors A full backpack taken up all those escarpments is indeed not to be underestimated. But the reward of a hearty meal, and a glass of wine is a worthy reward. 👍😀

    As is so often the case for RUclipsrs, triumph rises from adversity! What a lovely video with beautiful countryside and engaging commentary.
    I know it gets busy there, but the woodland of Ashridge is lovely. It looked nice in its winter coat, with a few early signs of Spring.
    How dare that lady suggest YouTubing is about vanity. As if we do this for the attention. I see it as a public service, since the telly is so pointless now!

    • @tweedyoutdoors
      @tweedyoutdoors  8 месяцев назад +4

      Thank you Mr WC21! I did my best, despite the (rail induced) difficulties of getting out of London. I don't think I included the (rather boring) bit of footage where I gave a full account of how I wasted most of yesterday morning. After my first two plans for the day were scuppered by rail closures I got the tube down to Waterloo, briefly got on a train to Winchester, found it to be uncomfortably packed, and got off again. So I ended up getting the tube back up to Euston and heading to Tring / Ivinghoe Beacon instead. It was a lovely day out in the end though so perhaps this is just how it was meant to be!
      I agree the woodland of Ashridge is lovely, and I think my curmudgeonly protestations about seeing other people could have been avoided if I had taken more minor paths rather than that main track which leads from the Bridgewater monument to Ivinghoe Beacon.
      Yes I did find that accusation of vanity a bit of an affront! I do sometimes wonder about the number of people who have likely watched videos on RUclips which include footage of somebody holding a camera pointed at themselves in a public place, but would then vocally question it if they saw it happen in real life - how do they think those videos were made...?

      Or you could treat yourself to one of those Soto folding ones. Pricey but convenient and sturdy. I made a table out of discarded estate agents sign board by cutting part way so as to make a hinged leg then used a bit of wire coat hanger to brace it. It works quite well in small sizes which suits me but not sure if it would work that well if any larger.

    Lovely video capturing the twilight so well. Our back yard backs straight on to forty square miles of forest. I would love to go deep into it and cook something in the open air but with 600lb black bears a plenty, cougars and the occasional hungry wolf pack, the menu may be subject to sudden change.

    Are you aware that you filmed an area which was used in Episode 4, Entitled Sorry Baby. I run along that path from Bridgewater Monument and The Beacon very often, its lovely and forms part of the Ashridge Boundary, which I am sure you are aware. The gate on the left as you look over to Pitstone and Paul's Nob, was featured heavily in a chase in this episode. The main protagonist chased a terrified guy (forgot his name) up to and over that gate where Eve's car was waiting to pick him up. Anyway, random trivia for you. Steps Hill which you passed was used in Star Wars but I dont know which episode and I am less inclined to seek this.

    Wonderful video, thank you! First video I'm seeing of you there. I've come to this channel via your pubs channel and have been enjoying.
    I'm sorry if this is a silly question, but is your stemmed glass glass, or a plastic version that is easier for travelling with?
    And could those woods be possible for wild camping in?
    I'm getting the urge to get out and about a bit, thanks to content such as yours. For fear of bombarding you with questions, I also wondered if you had recommendations to begin the journey of acquiring lovely tweed suits such as you wear? In case I've not seen if you've answered this before.

    • @tweedyoutdoors
      @tweedyoutdoors  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks Graham! I'm really glad to hear you've arrived here from the pubs channel as I get the sense these more eccentric videos might not appeal to most of the pubs crowd!
      Alas the wine glass is actually a type of plastic (I think this particular kind is called tritan). At home I only ever use proper glass glasses, but I've had a few breakages when trying to use glass glasses outdoors, some of which ended up being quite a palaver to deal with, and eventually I had to concede defeat and switch to plastic. I would love to find a better solution as I'd much rather be drinking out of proper glass!
      Most of my tweed suits are from a company called Walker Slater - they have shops in London and Edinburgh, and also sell online, although obviously it's a bit more challenging to get the right fit with online shopping. They have a great selection of cloths, and I think their prices are comparatively good.
      One of the things I like about them is that they sell all the pieces individually - so, for example, if your waist size for the trousers is a bit at odds with the corresponding typical chest size for the jacket, that's fine. If you want a three piece suit you can get that, but it you only want a two piece that's fine too. Or indeed if you only want a jacket that's also fine by them. The trousers of one suit I bought from them wore out after about seven years of heavy wearing and I was able to buy a replacement pair in the same cloth - nobody would know they weren't the originals.

      @@tweedyoutdoors Hi Tweedy!
      I appreciate the considered and informative reply. I know what you mean about the dangers of glass outdoors. Many years ago I purchased a sort of 'picnic backpack' with a section containing cutlery with plastic plates and glasses, along with proper linen napkins. There is also a padded, insulated section for food and drink etc.
      I've not used it much, but it's been handy when I have and the use of plastic for the glasses made sense.
      Thank you for the information about the suits. I've had a look at their website and it certainly looks like a great place to buy them. I'm not far from London so I look forward to visiting one of their shops to avoid any issues with fit, as you say can be an issue when ordering online!
      Keep up the great work with your channels, I'm looking forward to following your inspiration and getting out and about a bit more! To enjoy the outdoors and some lovely beer.

    Thanks for another video, the stew looked delicious. What GoPro do you use to film and did you use it to take the great night shots. I have just upgraded from an ancient GoPro 3 to the 10, not the latest but it will do for me. 👍

      Thanks Ysgolgerlan! I know the ingredients of that stew probably wouldn't have been everyone's cup of tea but I promise the end result was actually really tasty!
      I'm using a GoPro 10 too. It often pleasantly surprises me with low light filming - as long as there's some remnant of a sunset or something, and if I remember to keep it still! The stabilisation is really good in daylight, but it deteriorates pretty quickly in low light so I have to keep reminding myself to do more static shots when the light starts to fail.

      I thought the Indian music gave the sunset timelapse bit an air of exotic mysticism!
      I'm hopeless at choosing music, which is part of the reason my videos hardly ever have any in - whatever I end up choosing it seems at least somebody doesn't like it! I only use music for bits of the footage like time lapses and photos where there's no natural audio at all, because I think it would be odd to just have complete silence for a while... but perhaps I ought to just record some stock audio footage of bird song or something to fill in those gaps?
