  • The conflict stories of Mark 2 escalate to a new level of tension as Jesus corrects the mistaken understanding of the Pharisees. While the Sabbath had become an oppressive imposition in the Jewish world, Jesus sets forth the great truth that the Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. In that short pronouncement, the entire understanding of the Sabbath obligations changed, and established the principle that would eventually give rise to the notion of a Christian Sabbath, a day of renewal and service in the kingdom of Christ.

    You do err exceedingly great.
    The sabbath obligations have never changed. Jesus is Lord of the sabbath.
    He knew how to keep it holy.
    The priests thought to add their own traditions to the word of God.

    It was for the Jews in in old covenant. Now we rest in him. Paul called them the weak and beggarly elements. We are not made perfect by the flesh, but , by faith. The shadow are here judging us in what day we should keep. 😁 with me everyday is rest with him.

    Referring to the last part of the video, about how to interpret the Sabbath. There are many difficulties in understanding the language of the oldest manuscripts we have, so neither side in the debate should perhaps claim anything for certain. However, I think a sign of false teachings is when the person has to make more assumptions, more explaining and point to single verses of a larger context - when presenting his arguments.

    Thankfully the book of Hebrews clarifies the issue of the Sabbath but unfortunately that, and the keeping of feast have become an issue of confusion for born again believers. The Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, Feast of Weeks, Feast of Trumpets, Day of Atonement, Feast of Booths and the Rest of God (Sabbath) are Divinely fulfilled in Christ and those who abide in Christ partake because they are in the Vine. Its sad that some born again believers today believe that they have to (commanded to) return to the types and shadows of the old covenant.

      These are the feasts of YHWH, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, to offer an offering made by fire unto YHWH, a burnt offering, and a meat offering, a sacrifice, and drink offerings, every thing upon his day:
      BESIDE the sabbaths of YHWH, and BESIDE your gifts, and beside all your vows, and BESIDE all your freewill offerings, which ye give unto YHWH
      {Leviticus 23:37-38}
      And thou shalt keep the feast of *weeks* unto YHWH thy God with a tribute of a freewill offering of thine hand, which thou shalt give unto YHWH thy God, according as YHWH thy God hath blessed thee:
      {Deuteronomy 16:16}
      The seventh day sabbaths were for the counting of the weeks. They are not feast days of themselves.
      The sabbath day is the 4th commandment, which are not shadows, but a transcript of the Divine character of God.
      And [Jesus] came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and *taught* them on the sabbath days.
      {Luke 4:21}
      And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; *and rested* the sabbath day
      👉according to the commandment.
      {Luke 23:56}
      And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.
      {Mark 16:1}
      But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.
      {Acts 13:14}
      And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought *that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath*
      {Acts 13:42}
      And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.
      {Acts 13:44}
      And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.
      {Acts 16:13}
      And Paul, *as his manner was* went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
      {Acts 17:2}
      And he [Paul] reasoned in the synagogue *every* sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.
      {Acts 18:4}
      Remember the sabbath day, (why?) to keep it holy.
      {Exodus 20:8}

    The Pharisees were still trying making their own about keeping sabbath. Like some think it wrong to mow your lawn on sunday.
    One guy said his lawn mower wouldn't run on Sunday but did on monday. Isn't that a over doing it? 😁

    Hi, Bruce. . I think the pharisees did in fact have a correct understanding of the Law when they asked Jesus about doing what was not lawful on the Sabbath. According to Exodus 16 there was no food collection or preparation to be done on the Sabbath and according to Exodus 34:21 there was to be no harvesting on the Sabbath.
    Jesus' response also suggests that he did indeed break the Sabbath because he cited the example of when the law was broken by David. Jesus also broke other laws in the torah such as the touching of the dead girl. Jesus did break a number of Mosaic laws and yet he remained without guilt because the entire law pointed to him and was consummated in Him.
    When the law of the elders was in view such as with the washing of hands Jesus recognized that the law of the elders was at play.

      You just called Jesus a liar and a sinner.
      Be zealous therefore and repent.
      No preperation was made, therefore they where lawfully able to eat the corn.

    Gentiles we’re keeping the sabbath before Christ. Recall that the Gentiles in the book of acts asked Paul to come preach and teach again on ‘the sabbath’

      Yes of course! These were 'God-fearers' who by definition respected the Jewish religion and its traditions. Thanks for the insight.

      Here is wisdom (from God)
      Let him that has understanding COUNT THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST: for it is the number of man; and his number is six hundred threescore and six.
      {Revelation 13:18}
      And he said unto them, "Full well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your own TRADITION."
      “Making the word of God of none effect through your TRADITION, which you have delivered: and many such like things you do.”
      {Mark 7:9&13}
      But he answered and said unto them, "Why do you also transgress the commandment of God by your TRADITION?”
      {Matthew 15:3}
      Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the TRADITION of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
      {Colossians 2:8}
      Typology:
      ☆Tradition; Greek παράδοσις/paradosis = 666
      by counting the letter values of the Greek transliteration;
      P(80), A(1), R(100), A(1), D(4), O(70), S(200), I(10), S(200).
      "Vicarius Filii Dei" is the beast mocking (Blaspheming) God, but it does not lead one to the knowledge of the mark of the beast as does the 'tradition' of men.
      Sunday worship is of the traditions and commandments of men.
      (The phrase "Vicarius Filii Dei" was not even present in our vocabulary until 753 A.D.)
      Typology of Babylon:
      Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.
      {Daniel 6:5}
      And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God.
      And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his IMAGE, (Church and State, Spiritual and Temporal Powers.) and over his MARK, (Sunday Law) and over the NUMBER (666) of his NAME (Tradition), stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.
      {Revelation 15:1-2}
      --Obviously you can not have victory over the beast, unless you are here on earth to live through it.
      "This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
      But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men."
      {Matthew 15:8-9}
      They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
      {Titus 1:16}
      'Catholic Record' September 1 1923
      "Sunday is our MARK of authority....The church is above the bible, and this transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact."
      ^
      This is the beast thinking to change times and laws of God.

    Beloved, I love your commentaries on the understanding of history in biblical time. However, I Do Not agree with your view of Sabbath; If any would keep the Sabbath why would you not keep it on the day it was given, set aside and blessed? There is No abrogation of the Ten Commandments! Man has changed the fourth commandment ie Roman Catholicism. The Son as well as His disciples, apostles and later Paul etc. kept the seventh day Sabbath. Paul asked that the gift be prepared and ready the first day, as Everyone would have been keeping the Sabbath the day before. When Paul states "Let no man judge you; Col.2:16, is obviously referring to the Hebrew Passover, as that is the only festival as a Holy day with two Sabbath (days.) What right does man have to change what was declared, and written by the Creator with His own finger? Why, also would the Lords Day become the first day, when there is amply evidence the seventh day is the sacred day set apart and blessed by the Creator. We as a whole, are told "Keep My Commandments" Jew and Gentile believers. No I am not a Seventh Day Adventist, nor Seventh Day Baptist. Thank you Beloved Brother
