In the soup kitchens of Nis, tensions are running high. "Words cannot describe how hard it is," despairs a hungry pensioner, "I used to call [Milosevic] a pig, but not any longer, even a pig can think." With the heart of the Yugoslav economy lying in twisted ruins, impoverished civilians are raging at NATO, at Albanians and at the government that led them to war. Speaking here Dragan Covic, Vuk Drascovic and Zoran Djindjic of the restive opposition are pushing for elections or else... "We must increase pressure on the streets, this is the only guarantee for fair elections," threatens Djindjic. But the army is ready should a coherent uprising take hold. "The army must prevent civil war," decrees Yugoslavian Gerneral Nebojsa Povkovic in a lengthy interview. But support for Milosevic is waning in even nationalist camps. Angry Kosovan Serb refugees feel betrayed. "He said nobody would touch a hair on our heads...and now heads are rolling in Kosovo!" they scream. Throughout the nation the people who have lost everything can only look forward to hopelessness in a Yugoslavia, expelled from the international community and bombed into the past.

Serbia's politics are so... discouraging on a human level, every party. I remember in the 'Death of Yugoslavia' documentary, a Spanish aid worker was warned "everybody's crazy". I feel bad for Serbs who want to strive for a more sensible political atmosphere.
Well, the population fails to produce people that have their best in mind due it's bad culture. Simply put, no tradition of critical thinking, no tradition of taking responsibility for it's own bad decisions and victim mentality. Plenty of other failed countries have such issues. Russia for instance.

not only that serbia's ecenomy was under sanctions, it was also literally a military target... all those civilian objects, factories, bridges,... unmeasurable damage. and then it was all rebuilt on credits from the imf after they put their people on the leading positions. mission almost accomplished, yet the power of some myth about kosovo is still too powerful to make the final move.

Milosovic should go down as the worst Serbian leader in history. He wanted a Velika Srbija but he also wanted to stay in power, at all costs. So he waged war by stealth, not committing Serbia (proper) to anything while arming and encouraging Bosnian, Croatian and Kosovo Serbs simultaneously. So if they won, he could take the credit,and if they lost, he could say, well Serbia didn't declare war on anyone. In the end his ineptitude was a disaster for the Serbian people. Half a million Serb's were expelled from Croatia, Bosnia was a brutal stalemate mess, Serbia lost Kosovo and Belgrade was bombed by NATO. He turned his country into hated mess, yet he still tried to clutch to power. So, Slobodan Milosevic was bad for former Yugoslavia, and even worse for Serbia!

serbs were the only people in the ex-yugoslavia to have organized massive anti-regime demonstration against their nationalist government. you can look it up: anti-war protests in 1991, opposition protests during the mid-1990's and finally in the year 2000. in the meantime people in croatia and bosnia were "kissing" tudjman and izetbegovic's shoes despite the fact that they were starving to death. of course you would only know this is you had done any type of research, which you didn't do cause you were to busy spewing hatred and promoting fascism on the internet...

most serbs supported milosevic in the late 80's because none of us expected him to push our country further into crisis. none of us wanted this war, we didn't want the war crimes that were committed against our yugoslavian brothers and sisters either, we just thought he would bring change to our society. in the end he participated into our country's breakup, along with the politicians in other ex-yugoslav states, but claiming that he is the only leader responsible is very dumb.

Technically, Otpor was a CIA operation. More importantly, people have failed to see that the country was in a bad shape because of the sanctions and bombing, not because of any particular politician or party.

Most of those poor, starving and frustrated people used to admire Milosevic and his regime just a few years earlier. They were supporting his wars in Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo. They didn’t object killing civilians in Vukovar and Sarajevo. They didn’t protest against genocide committed by their fellow Serbs in Srebrenica and Prijedor. They were taken a part in many of Milosevic’s war crimes. Once the devil came back home, as a hunger, as a misery and fear, they started pointing finger to their leader. A little to late.

Greece did not participate in the Nato bombings, some 40 judges of the greek supreme court declared those who took part at the bombings guilty for war crimes and sent a lot of supplies to the bombed areas, making the bombings more difficult. Enough said. Greece is only a small country. It couldn't have prevented the bombing.

I trust the man in the begining I myself had a good classmate who was a Kosovar speaking Albanian but he was insisting that his family is originaly from Serbia. He also had Slavic traits like lightbrown hair and was very tall. I know how it feels to be different I have many Albanian traits one of those is my thick darkbrown wavy hair wich I got from one of my grandfathers who had albanian routes. Im an Bosnian but im good with everyone but allways when im out with my Serbian Friends I stand out because the majority of them looks very Slavic wich I dont. But yea love and peace to everyone.

Not that I like Milosevic and not that I ever felt sorry for him being transferred to the Hague detention center to face charges of war crimes committed in Kosovo,Bosnia even Croatia but because those Kosovar-Serb refugees (or at least some of them) lay blame on all Kosovar-Albanians I'm glad I have nothing to do with those Kosovar-Serb refugees so even if I'm actually civil to them I certainly don't want to interact with them and I overall don't want to do special or I overall don't want to do "exceptionally" nice things for them.

@@nadeemathar4226 he was found innocent because the war crimes in the yugoslav wars were mainly carried out by locals in tit 4 tat violence. the whole premise of milosevic being a serb nationalist that wanted to create a greater serbia and genocided non serbs is ironically flawed because the reason such crimes were able to occur is precisely because he didn't want to deploy the full force of the yugoslav army because of his beliefs in a multi ethnic yugoslavia. the western media tried to characterize him as a hitler genociding ppl to create a pure ethnic state which was always incorrect simplistic childish take used to manipulate the public into supporting intervention. he was simply incompetent in controlling the nationalist fervour that swelled during the 90s in yugoslavia, partially instigated by the cia and foreign islamic extremists, a co operation we see frequently in all nato interventions since.

UDBA in yugoslawia was known for it's harsh punishment of seperatists, if you'd swing the albanian flag in kosovo or say something along the line of "rroft shiprija" you make sure you have an escape plan towards albania. Serbia never needed a outside reason to hate croats, albanians and bosnians. Tensions were suppressed by force and it started boiling for any ethnicity in Yugoslawia leading to it's demise.

This is direct result of Milosevic politics. He brought war to Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo. At the end he brought an absolute tragedy to his own people. Serbia is the biggest loser of Yugoslavian war.
When it comes to politics... amost 2 million Albanians are not living in Serbia after Kosovo went away which is a good thing, since Serbia has a demographic problem with it's own population. Serbs in Bosnia have their own country within a country, and Serbian population in province of Vojvodina has increased thanks to Serbian refugees from Croatia. There was a demographic consolidation in areas where Serbia can make any real claims. From a nationalist point of view it's a good thing, from a Yugoslav imperialist point of view it's a bad thing because Kosovo, Montenegro and Bosnia are not part of Serbia.
