  • In this video I share with you the process of some Cedar-Apple Rust Galls. I found these strange brown balls on this scraggly Juniper and really ran into a lot of challenge figuring out what they were. I actually posted a picture on a gardening site to ask for any insight...no one knew! Turns out these are called Galls and they are created by something called Cedar-Apple Rust which is a fungus.
In this video I share with you my journey of watching these galls develop and eventually open up into something pretty amazing. I have learned a lot through the process of having these around. The articles that I have learned from are linked here below so that you too can get the facts.

This was great. Thanks for the experiment and all the research. I have juniper bonsai I’m trying to figure out if they have the same thing. 👍

Oh goodness they might have it. I’ve learn not only junipers are hosts. They are definitely the most common but there are others. Sometimes it’s in the form of a rust and sometimes it does other odd things too. Right now I have an Asian pear tree which I’m pretty sure has a Gaul with the pear. It has the same tentacles in the fruit…not orange though. I also have some things hit with rust which I know is how this sometimes impacts other plants. I have a grape vine with a bad case of rust. Ehhh it’s not fun. It is amazing and incredible…but now I’m looking forward to the other side of it.
After the video I discovered several junipers with Gauls. Not all had as many Gauls as the video juniper but it is widespread here on my property.
