I love what Brett says about picking a church because of the worship. Sure, it's great to have a good worship team with great music, but always come for the teaching. Let a good worship be icing on the cake. I also find that I like teachers more than preachers, although each has their place. I love all the "side facts" Brett tells us about, that helps open up the truths of God's Word.

Worship is a, if not the, way to come into the presence of G-d the Father. A worship team that does bring a congregation into that place, guided by the Holy Spirit, should then step aside and be quiet until an appropriate time, or at the end of a service to wrap it it. ALL glory goes to the Lord.
Anything else, like the team becoming the focus and itself being worshipped, is not. And many seeker church 'worship teams' are one beat outside of being pop concerts with a veneer of Christianity over it - it becomes all about them, and, as we have recently seen, that is the thin edge of that particular wedge!
My opinion, for what it's worth...

Great sermon Brett! Regarding the Catholic church, lately I have heard many people debating which is the true Church: The Protestant Church or the Roman Catholic Church? I think there is a great fallacy with this question, and here's why.
I think part of the problem is many people confuse Christianity with the Protestant movement. Christianity started in the first century, it was talked about in Acts 11:26, when the followers of Christ at Antioch were referred to as Christians.
Christianity is simply those who follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, they have confessed and repented of their sins and are washed in the blood of Jesus. He is their Savior; they follow, love, trust, and obey Him. It is a continuation of the faith of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the Old Testament. The people we describe today as Christians would have been described as seeking or following the Lord before the time of Christ.
When you read through the Old Testament it's clear that it was always God's plan to redeem man from sin by sending His Son as the one, perfect sacrifice for all sin. True Christians worship the Lord God Who created the heavens and the earth: Yahweh, the Great I Am. Christianity has nothing to do with the Catholic church neither is it encapsulated in the Protestant movement. The Christian church is the body of believers that make up the body of Christ. Jesus Christ is the Head of the Christian church. The Christian Church grew throughout the first and second centuries and continues to grow today despite the persecution of the Catholic church. The churches that the Epistles were sent to, the church of Corinth that Paul wrote to, and the other churches that Paul wrote to: these churches did not simply cease to exist when the Roman Catholic church came on the scene. These churches and the ones that spring forth from them and others like them did not simply cease to exist or all become Catholic. During the time of Constantine, because of Constantine's push for "Christianity" to become the official religion (To be clear, you can't force people to have a real relationship with Jesus Christ, they either do or they don't. You can and should share the Gospel with them, however.) eventually what would become the Roman Catholic Church came into being.
The Roman Catholic Church, to sum it up without taking too much time, basically began when many of the pagans practitioners combined Christianity with the religions they were already practicing to align with Constantine's push for Christianity, and from that unholy union spring forth the Roman Catholic church, which is not true Christianity, but rather a mixture of pagan practices and teachings and Christian practices and teachings, and a twisting of scripture and the true Gospel. True Christianity continued to thrive separate from the Roman Catholic Church. Meanwhile the Catholic Church, through vice, deceit, manipulation, and the sale of indulgences among other things, grew wealthy and powerful. Of course, it persecuted the true church, the Christian Church, which is the body of Christ. If anyone studies history and especially church history, this is clear. Foxe's Book of Martyrs (and many others) detail this. Now the Vatican and the Catholic Church is constantly trying to whitewash, cover up, and alter their history in an attempt to make it look like their history is the history of the Christian Church, but it's simply not true. The history of the Christian Church is very different than the history of the Catholic Church, and the history of the Protestant Church is different than the history of the Christian Church as well.
The Protestant Reformation sprang up because Martin Luther and the people that became the Protestants were disgusted with the behavior of the Roman Catholic Church and they wanted to break away from the Catholic Church because of how evil and corrupt it was (and has always been). Now many Protestants that are truly saved and that are truly Christians are part of the Body of Christ and are part of the true Christian Church. That doesn't mean that every Protestant church or every person who claims to be Protestant is part of the true church. This is a extremely important distinction. Now that's not to say that it's not possible that some Catholic people have a real relationship which Jesus Christ and are truly saved, only God knows. But the Catholic hierarchy in the Vatican, the Pope and others, whether they know it or not, are deceiving people and have led many people into Hell by giving them a false assurance of Salvation. Salvation does not come by being baptized as a baby and not committing mortal sins. The only way a person is saved is by repenting of their sins, believing on Jesus Christ and trusting Him as their Lord and Savior and being washed in the blood of the Lamb and filled with the Holy Spirit. A baby can't repent of it's sins, so baptism does nothing for an infant. Baptism is something you do after you are saved to symbolize dying to your sin nature and spiritual regeneration unto Christ.
The Protestant Reformation was an important historical event which allowed many people to be free of the chains of the Roman Catholic Church and to eventually find a true relationship with Jesus Christ. However, the true debate is not Catholic versus Protestant, the true debate should br the Roman Catholic Church with it's seat in the Vatican and it's head the Pope, versus the Christian Church with and Jesus Christ as it's head, and He will rule and reign from Jerusalem. Many Christian churches claim to be Protestant, and some don't; but any true Christian church will have as its head Jesus Christ, and derive its authority and doctrine from the Word of God. So often the waters get muddied by frivolous debates when people don't understand the true issues, because many people don't understand the true history of the Christian Church and the real issues that need to be discussed. All this comes from a place of love and not judgment. Many people are not taught this and many churches don't even talk about this because the pastors don't know. Too many churches just talk about topical sermons and don't go through the Bible verse by verse and chapter by chapter. There are a lot of churches out there where the leadership is not doing right by the by their flock.
When you read through the New Testament, think about how many times Paul had to correct churches on their behavior. The same is true today. There are many churches that are not perfect because there are no perfect people; but churches that stand on the Word of God and acknowledge Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are going in the right direction and it is so important to read through the Bible daily and be in prayer and to really know the Bible and to know the true Church history and true Christian history so that you're not led astray by a false religion, whether it's the Mormon Church, the Jehovah's Witnesses, or the Roman Catholic Church: these are all false religions because of how they deal with Jesus Christ.
The most important thing is to have a real relationship with God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, and to pray, and to read God's Word, the Christian Bible, every day.
    ❤️❤️

When you grow up Catholic, then finally get Saved and Born Again and start reading the Bible for the first time, you wonder why people still go to a church whose teaching CONTRADICT the Bible. And if you get in a debate with them about the contradictions, they will get exasperated and blurt out, "We wrote the Bible!" which is FALSE.
      "Funny, you don't look Jewish."
      "What do you mean?"
      "All the writers were Jewish."
      "........."
And when you bring up how they DELETED God's 2nd Commandment (no graven images, no statues, no praying to Mary) as given to Moses by God Himself, twice; and written in stone, they'll deflect that the Commandments are not numbered, to throw you off. But of course, it STILL doesn't change the fact that they EDITED God. You won't find the "graven images" Commandment in a Catholic Bible, not at all.
And then there's Mary worship, where they promoted her to the Queen of Heaven, Mother of God, and co-Advocate with Jesus for sinners. Only Jesus died for your sins, not Mary or anyone else.
God has revealed Himself in 3 manifestations, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost. Mary was the biological mother of Jesus, but she is NOT the mother of God the Holy Spirit or of God the Father.
And then there's the false teaching that Mary was sinless, while God Himself has said, "ALL have sinned." All means all. Jesus was the only sinless being who ever lived because God was His father, while everyone else is born in sin, including Mary. She herself proclaimed, "I rejoice in God my SAVIOR." She knew she needed a Savior. She and Joseph had other children after Jesus, plainly stated in the Bible.
There's not enough room here to list even a fraction of the contradictions between the Catholic Church's teaching and the Scriptures.

Have you read the 613 laws? A lot of them are things like "if you borrow your neighbors item and break it, you need to replace it." Or "if your animal gets out and kills another's animal, you must repay them the price of their animal."

Lev 20:11 If a man lies with his father’s wife, he has uncovered his father’s nakedness; both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them. While Noah was drunk, Ham slept with Noah's wife, Hams mother. The offspring was Canaan. That is why Canaan was cursed. The offspring of incest. Shem and Japheth back up into the tent and covered up their mother after it happened. This explanation makes more sense then Noah dancing around drunk with disco sounds.
