    Hey everyone, this is Johnny the co-composer (Alberto is the other co-composer) from Motif. First of all I want to say a big thank you for all the kind words on the music and the game itself - it means a lot to us!
    Also a big shout out to Brandon who did an exceptional job with the pieces. Not only he is a fantastic musician (which we obviously knew before) but also a very sweet, kind person that put up with us and all of our silly requests. We couldn't have been happier with our collaboration!

      I’m curious what we’re hearing at 3:10 -3:16. I can’t tell if it’s some kind of synth or a real flute. If it’s a real flute that’s been melodyned, or a really convincing flute patch with a pitch bend wheel, or timbre transfer ai. I notice it does a hummed distortion effect/growl right at the end. Which suggest a real flute, but something’s funny about it. Like the intonation on the sustains is too snapped to grid in places. I don’t know. Its slightly mysterious to my ears.

    • @Forever02
      @Forever02 2 года назад +5

      I think it’s a real flute. It sounds almost as if the person recording it was nervous but played it rhythmically perfect. If that makes since

      @@adamsouza7140 glad it contributed in creating a mysterious vibe! It is a VST flute playing flutter technique. Interestingly we had no grid in place since the tempo was free

      @adamsouza7140 2 года назад

      @@motifmusicproduction5457 Oh by grid, I mean the sustains were 12tet, kind of in constraint to the exaggerated portamento. I guess it takes two dimensions to make a grid though.

    I'll never forget mid 2000's halo 2 with Steve Vai playing the theme song with the wild guitar composition. It is the reason I play guitar today. Music from video games can be some of the best music composition because it can transport you to a memory that might get relived like the fable sound track... I literally got shivers down my spine

    I've listened to a lot of classical inspired video game OSTs since childhood, have recently gotten into theory and pluck-instrument playing thanks to you and a few others and it feels profoundly satisfying to understand the mechanisms behind why I find X piece to be so great.

    Having a composer ask for the player's input, to create a cohesive work that sounds good for the instrument showcased, is very rare. Usually the composers just write the work and don't want anything to be changed.

    This is way cool, Brandon! I don't know, maybe it's just an old man's projection (the psychological kind) but 'Murky Brew' takes me back to the '60s, with those medievalesque visuals...like back when we were all discovering Tolkien. And when the flute comes in...I mean, shades of Mo Koffman! Rock...or rather, pluck on!

I like early and Classical music and I love many video games. Congratulations on being on a soundtrack! Wow!! Not what I expected either. I figured it would be faux-medieval music. But it's kind of modern, different. Very nice!
    And yes, I LOVE well-done videogame music! It can add so much to the atmosphere of the game. I actually often listen to game music when NOT playing games.
