  • Here is how you can install a shortwave antenna in a sloper configuration. I used a spring and some parachute cord to use as a counterbalance. The spring is one you can use to keep your front gate closed. It has enough tension to work properly with a variety of lengths of wire and can be adjusted for more or less tension.
This specific antenna and others can be researched at:

Excellent idea using the spring! Out in the country, I usually hung a piece of firewood on the end of my lines below the pulley to allow for winds making the tree sway back and forth , and yet keeping the antenna straight as possible. I had one really long run (1000 feet) down through the woods that took several pulleys and weights to keep the sections straight. But with yours, You can hide a spring much easier than a piece of firewood hanging next to a tree It's a neater job and it does the same thing.

Thanks for the nice comment. Yeah, I think the spring works very well with no issues so far.

Your pulley setup is actually far better and more standard. Other than the firewood, there's no standard for the weight, people just use whatever's available. I don't have a tree so I just tied it straight to the 6ft chainlink fence pole in the backyard

Great looking antenna Andy. Good use of the the tree.

I didn't wnat any chafing of the tree and allow for flexibility of the tree. The tree can even continue to grow and this counterweight spring will just stay in position and allow for growth. This was really my only option since I have no vertical masts tall enough to allow this antenna to receive well. Thanks for dropping by Fred. ALl the best to you and yours in 2019.

I'm trying to get some idea's before I install my di-pole. I'm wrestling with the fact that a crimp on connector on the Balun or Unun is carrying the load of the antenna. I'm wanting to relieve that stress point. I'd like to find a Kellem grip(Chinese Basket) made of plastic that could grip the antenna and remove that stress point. Other considerations is running parachute cord with the antenna. Twisted with the wire. Any idea's??

Using a parachute cord would be the way I would do it. You can use zip ties to hold your wire in place. I can't think of anything that would be much better than that.
