Here are the steps to dismantle the door trim and side panels in the BMW E46:

Remove the door handle: If you have power mirrors and windows, first disconnect the electrical connector. Then remove the screw or clip holding the door handle and remove it.
Remove the window and mirror panels: Use a plastic lever tool to carefully detach the panels from the doors. Disconnect electrical connectors if necessary.
Remove the molding along the edge of the window: You can usually do this by hand by removing it from the holes in the door.
Remove the molding at the bottom of the door: This often has clips or screws that need to be removed. Use the appropriate tool to remove them.
Open the door pockets: On some models, these may be secured with clips or screws. Remove them to access the screws or clips that hold the upholstery in place.
Remove the door trim: Carefully remove the door trim, starting at the bottom and working upwards. Check for any hidden clips or screws that may be holding the upholstery in place.
Remove the door panel: If you are going to remove the door panel, you will need to first remove the trim and then expose the door structure. The screws holding the side panel can be hidden behind the upholstery or inside the door structure.

Install a new door panel: If you are replacing a new door panel, install it the opposite way to how you removed it.
