Carving a ladle using hand tools

- A short video of my first attempt at carving a ladle. This is for a guy I worked for in France called Fred who collects spoons and ladles. Also i meant to say, boiled linseed oil is not the best for cooking implements (cos some brands are toxic), but my friend is just using this an ornament.

I'm a spoon carver and I gotta say ash is my least favorite wood to carve. To make it worse it was not green wood which normally is easier to carve. You did a fine job though with what you had. Thumbs up!
Do you think poplar would be good to use for a ladle?
Hi from France ! Thanks for your videos they're really great, i've discovered you recently and it is a pleasure
Love your videos! Just a note that boiled linseed oil can sometimes have toxic contaminants. Raw linseed is safer for stuff that you cook and eat with.
This video reminded me of a USA PBS show called Alone in the Wilderness. If you haven’t already seen it, I think you’d enjoy it. It’s about a man who goes off the beaten path in Alaska and builds his own cabin, utensils, etc. Dated but a classic.
It's beautiful! Noting like handmade. I would proud to own it!
If birch is softer than ash, then ash is extremely hard. In my experience, birch is hard and slightly brittle. I have no experience with ash, since it doesn’t grow here in northern Norway.
soft
Another great video again keep up the good work!👍
hi friend..do have a video when you making your own bucksaw from start to finish..
thanks for this one..i like it
Fascinating.
This is great- you seem like a wprk-with-what-you-got kind of human, so I was wondering if it would be possible to do this same thing with only small hand tools on softer wood?
Do you have any advice?
Yeah, anything is possible :) I would recommend using a wood like Birch. Its a bit softer, but not too soft. I only used Ash cause its all i had and didnt want to cut down another tree. Making the bowl of the ladle is the hard bit if you dont have a spoon knife or scoop chisel, but you could try drilling holes and then chiselling or burning in the bowl with hot coals. Hope that helps :)
That was really enjoyable 😁. Now you need to make a cauldron for Broth. How many man hours to make ?
Hola amigo te saludo desde Republica Argentina... Awsome work! Sorry my English :)
Thanks so much! :D
I thought when reading the title that our awesome host was carving something with the sound of Laddie in it. O.o Lost in translation I guess.
how many ounces does the ladle hold?
👏👏👏👏👏👑
Watch out using boiled linseed oil as it's toxic and so shouldn't be used as a finish on something that's going to see use in cooking. (probably won't actually cause any real harm in that quantity, but better safe than sorry)
I heard that its not great for food utensils, but I think my friend will just use it as an ornament :)
True. Raw linseed oil would have been safe.
Ku Ku kachoo your correct best thing to use is veg cooking oil not any nut oil either due to nut allergies 🐺🐾:-) 👍
@@FandabiDozi nice job try veg cooking oil not any nut oil either due to allergy I sub ya dude greeting from UK England near London👍:-) 🐾🐺❤
Does anyone know the toxicity of tung oil? I was thinking of using that on my bo rather than linseed.
Great job. Is Fandabi Dozi your real name or your RUclips name?
Thanks :) Just my RUclips name. My name is Tom ;)

Hey buddy! Yeah sorry about that! I just got back from travelling and my camera and laptop both broke down. So its taken a while to get back up and running again. How is life with you? :)
Annoying background music makes video unwatchable.
It would be much quicker and easier to use power tools.
Depends. Some of us find the use of power tools to be very rewarding.
Would have been even quicker if he'd bought one made in China but that's not the point.
Yes quite obviously, but it wouldn't really fit the theme of the channel
@@billastell3753 Some of us find that purchasing products made in China to be quite the point.
@@likejohnnyandjune2024 The theme is subjective. I choose to make the theme about making things fast with power tools.
you're a very funny creative person very good job.:-) Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures was buried and rose again on the third day according to the scriptures 1 Corinthians 15 verse 3
