    They took away the BR because it messed with the sandbox of weapons. They wanted the focus to be more so on the management of weapons. This is why the Auto-Mag has next to no shield damage while the Silence SMG is better with shield damage.
    They added the ability to use the BR in Firefight in the MCC version and it seriously breaks the game, takes away a lot of the challenge.
    Engineers die in one hit from an overcharged Plasma shot, any difficulty.
    The reason ODST can use the turrets is because their armor is semi power armor, they do provide some strength boost to the user.

Given the small team and limited budget, it's honestly incredible what they managed to do with the time they had. If they had gone the distance, maybe even scrapped Reach entirely, and dedicated a real team to the game, ODST would've gone down as one of the best open-world story-driven shooters of all time, especially considering the concept for how the story played out was so ahead of its time. Mombasa street quickly became a pattern, and it was pretty easy to just carry around a carbine and a beam rifle the whole entire time (plenty of ammo to go around). I never understood the praise for ODST making you feel weak when you get rinsed much fast in CE, 2 and even reach. Firefight actually does a much better job at making you feel overwhelmed than the campaign ever did at any moment
      The rest of the campaign was laughably easy even on legendary. Tayari plaza and uplift reserve were over quickly. I beat nmpd hq legendary on my first try without even dying (not to mention it was short as hell too). Oni headquarters was basically two firefight sections and you were done.

    It’s also super hard, especially on legendary, which I low key loved about it. I then went from Legendary ODST to playing Legendary Halo 3, which made it surprisingly easy for me to beat Halo 3. I gotta say the PC port looks fantastic and I definitely agree with you on the stellar atmosphere (when it’s there).

    5:34 This has always been my point of contention with the game as well, even though I do like ODST, because I was sold on magazines and videos telling me about a MUCH different gameplay experience than what was delivered. Fighting a Brute on your own as human was supposed to be near-suicide and would only be attempted with a team and heavy equipment. Avoiding fights via stealth was supposed to be a huge part of surviving in the city.

    Odst is definitely my favorite halo game I liked everthing about it and see why people see it as a missed opportunity. I liked the story though I can see why people dislike it even though I felt it did a good job with the characters enough for me to look into expanded lore the atmosphere still had the opressing vibe throughout the entire game even in the end when new mombasa gets glassed. And the gameplay felt a lot different than halo 3 in my opinion of course.

    Thinking about it now, perhaps more stealth oriented gameplay for New Mombasa night missions would’ve been better. A city crawling with covenant and rookie cant just take them head on. I was really hoping the silenced smg and pistol would mean enemies dont notice shots immediately but i guess that was more an aesthetic thing

      Its really not the noise but the enemy reaction similar to a melee in the back no enemy sees it or is close enough to hear the enemy dying and your fine I've killed enemy's with silenced weapons without alerting others. Just like in real life a silencer muffles the noise and nearly or does erase the muzzle flash but it still makes noise so fire to close to other enemies or miss the one hit kill and your cover will be blown!

    I think the games badass when you play on harder difficulty, and you have situations where you have to place the trust in that last rocket in an AI’s hands and hope for the best. It really expanded my vision on how to use the halo gun sandbox when the odds were really pushed against me. I also at one time thought like you did, where a tactical shooter would’ve made a great debut here, but if you watch how moders in ARMA ect made that already, it turns out to be slow and drawn out, probably too big for this games budget and scope. But frankly the witty characters and bad assery made me always rank this one as the most fun to play on legendary.

    • @Jarekthegamingdragon
      @Jarekthegamingdragon 3 года назад

      Tactical shooters aren't the same genre as milsim. Tactical shooters generally aren't boring or drawn out. Look at games like SWAT 4 or rainbow six vegas.

    I wanted a more grounded experience too - the fact that rookie can instakill a giant leather-skinned space gorilla sporting Armor and energy shields with a single punch to the back is kind of stupid. That being said I still love the hell out of this game. Halo’s at its best in semi-open levels, and there’s a fair bit of that here.

    ODST is a game I love and adore. I can see where you come from with the criticism but honestly it doesn't change how I feel about the game. For years it's been my favorite Halo campaign and has always been a special experience for me. My problem with the game is that it needs a rebalance. Mainly a slight buff to guns, add the BR to the campaign, don't have the ability to pick up turrets, make stealth more of a viable option, and reduce health. Other than that the game is stellar.

    I feel the story is a lot easier to get behind if you view it as something like Casablanca set in the Halo universe. Not a war movie per se, but a noir romance set against the backdrop of war. Idk, just my take that no one asked for.

    • @alexfriedman7207
      @alexfriedman7207 3 года назад +1

      You nailed it right on the head! ODST takes a lot of inspiration for old noir films like you mentioned. I think that does create the divide. if you love the genre of film, you will most likely like ODST’s story, if not then you get what Jarek is saying. I am not saying that ODST’s story is perfect, but it is certainly my favorite specifically because of its style

    I feel like you played on Normal or Easy, because the clips you're showing make it look like you didn't try it on Heroic or Legendary. Yes they are more difficult, but it adds more to the game, you have to really plan out how you're going to attack your enemies or what weapons you need.
    Normal and Easy is the equivalent to "journalist" mode. Plus I didn't even hear you talk about the side story about Sadie through the audio logs, so I assume you didn't even bother with that side of the game too. You also get more cache's that you can unlock by finding those audio logs, to help you move through the city easier, some have Mongooses or rocket launchers or sniper rifles.

    • @Jarekthegamingdragon
      @Jarekthegamingdragon 3 года назад +3

      "I feel like you played on Normal or Easy, because the clips you're showing make it look like you didn't try it on Heroic or Legendary. "
      No, I did play it on heroic. So you're just complimenting me for being good at Halo I guess. I've played Halo my entire life, still play it competitively.
      I'm well aware of the audio logs and caches. I didn't mention them for the same reason I didn't mention firefiight, I wasn't interested in talking about them. They exist, I'm indifferent in them. Firefight I always found rather boring. I need a goal and structure so I always preferred to play Killing Floor instead if I wanted a wave based game. If I was playing Halo, I just went to MP.
