It was the one thing I dreaded when I had my Street Glide Special, bath time. The bugs in summer here get horrendous and that just splatter everywhere and there was nowhere on that SGS that was safe. Bath time was an all day affair.
Oh man the RK is one looker now…thanks for the tech advice on cleaning…really wish you could demonstrate it, but I do understand. Would love to know how you detail the bike and maybe what products you use. Enjoy the weekend and looking forward to more detail on the trip and the plans. 👍
Nice thing about RK over street glide, you can run them naked without screen, and if doing long tour you can fit screen, the Chrome RK,s really stand out without screen, looks fabulous 👌
Make sure to bring your A heat game to Georgia. When it comes to heat, the South DON’T PLAY. We’ll cook ya and you will want to EAT YA. Lol. Your prep plan seems to be panning out so keep up the good work. I want the Road King spotless when you leave Washington. Stay safe and THAT IS ALL👍🏽😎
Oh man, I grew up in the South, I definitely remember..! Lol I'll make sure Roadie is looking nice when I roll out. Hope the weather on the trip doesn’t destroy her, but they usually come back looking pretty rough... That'll take me a couple days to clean! Lol Thanks Cedric!! 👍
Shaun, what an awesome ride. I would love to see you cleaning your bikes but I totally understand you rationale for not showing it. Stay well you guys and animals. Kindest regards from Bonnie Scotland. Joe.
I had a bunch of motorcycles but I'm finally down to one,,,,,the one I kept,"?? Not the Ultra, nor the sportster,,,,,,it's good old Roadie Road King!!!! I'm wondering if you had to choose just one of your collection,,,,,,which one?
It's supposed to be performed with Harley's Digital Technician Software to flush the VCM's ABS pump. For liability reasons, I won't show or explain how I get around it... Sorry about that! Thanks Louis!! 👍
Ol' Roadie sure is lookin' purdy Shawn. Now don't go and get wrapped around an axle when you hit that rain on the trip! 😁 I'm joshin', I know you won't, you'll just give her another bath. Sure is a bummer with the rodent evidence. Will the dogs leave a cat alone? They might discover a new friend if they would. Course, you might have to introduce them as kittens. Well, you two have a pleasant evening. I'll check in tomorrow. God bless, Rob
You run into mice more when you live in the country and also when you have more motorcycles than you know what to do with and they end up sitting a lot.
Shaun I have a 2021 RT LIMITED CAN-AM spider I HAVE A BRP TRAILER HITCH IS THE HITCH Suppose To be solid and You shouldn't be able to move it up-and-down. Am I correct. I bought a 2001 in August. I decided to put a cooler rack and a cooler on the back. And I noticed that the hitch could raise it up-and-down. The dealer installed it. And I noticed that at the Axle bolt Was missing a cutter. pin. Did they not install it properly.
The hitch should be solid on the swing arm, but not be loose on the swing arm..! BRP quit using cotter pins on the main at the 36 mm nut (around 2017), but with the hitch installed the main nut is covered and hitch axle, that goes through the main axle should definitely have a cotter pin installed. The kit comes with 4 cotter pins, one for the install and 3 for the customer to keep as spares. The 18 mm hitch nut should be torqued to 55 Nm (41 lbf-ft ) then tighter to line up cotter pin hole if needed. If you're not comfortable with doing any of this, make sure you take it back to the installing dealer..! Thanks George!!
I noticed you still have stock exhaust, I wondering now if I made a mistake getting the stage 1 from the dealer. My idle went up from 840 to about 950.
Nice video Shawn, Im much like you & sort of ' dry ' clean the bike as I ride it, youve got 2 beautiful bikes in the RK & ol Slim, you mentioned silkolene pro prep, what is the full name of it please as I would like to get some & try it out. All the best both 👍👍
Well thank you very much! It is called Silkolene Pro Prep, but seems to be hard to get here in the States... www.silkolene.com/motorcycle/aerosols/pro-prep/ Thanks Geoff!! 👍
@TheSmoaksVlogs thank you so much for taking the time to help me, I am so anal about looking after anything I have , I think it stems from my childhood & nor having very much. All the very best to you both 👍👍👍
Still in the box leaking oil after 3 years... Lol Good thing they have a lifetime warranty. They are an inch too short for the RK anyway, they were purchased for the 2017 SGS. The stock Showa's have finally broke-in and I don't ever think about suspension on this bike... Thanks!! 👍
@@TheSmoaksVlogs Yeah my 13 inch shock from legends leaked too and I am on my second warranty replacements from them. Send the leak ones back I think they got a program you can have them extended with new parts with minimal fees. Have a safe trip!!
I’ve always admired your Roadie Road King. She’s one beautiful lady.
A clean bike always looks great. Those back roads and the clouds specially in this video where amazing. Thanks for sharing !
Thanks for watching!! 👍
Cold, wet and windy here in the UK. Gotta be the worse July on record. Anyway, nice to see old RRK out and lookin all spangly clean. Thanks guys.
Thanks Mark!! 👍
Looks real good :)
Very well done motorcycle wash and great ride. The RK is one of my favorites. Good stuff Smoak's!
Thanks Gus!! 👍
I’ve learned to hit the thumbs up early rather wait to the end. Have a great couple day off the job!!!
That sure is a beautiful road king. I love mine and I hated to see your old barn find go. That is all a person needs for a comfortable road trip.

It’s 11am and already 90 degrees out. Suppose to get to 111 today. Looks like I won’t be riding any bikes this week.
Please show us the brake fluid change on the Road King.
