@LostOnes bro do you have a job? You give me a teen female vibe here. Getting a job today is a huge deal first of all. Following dreams requires money. And I never said sister should not follow her dreams. If the elder sibling is responsible for younger sibling, that means the parents are out of picture. If parents are alive and they want son to wait until daughter is married, that only explains their concern cuz they have seen the world more than us. I have seen in any house with unmarried sister, she becomes a servant UNLESS SHE IS STUDYING OR WORKING somewhere. If youre sitting home then its moral responsibility to contribute in house work. But eventually the brother's wife will bear kids, and the kids will become the sister's responsibility or the wife will take responsibility for kids but will make the sister do all house work. This happens in every village and majority of Indians live in villages.
Every practice becomes backward practice only if it's forced on someone.
I have seen my maternal aunts torture my grandma mentally and emotionally. At the same time I have seen my paternal grandma mentally torture my parents. Everything is not a fruity delusional fairytale. These "backward practices" arose for a reason. I can see a positive start to so many "backward practices " which evolved into something bad over decades and are now frowned upon. Yes we should change with time, but time hasn't changed yet for the whole of India so we need to move with time.
And how Is a wife wanting husband to stop talking to his sister a "women are burden" concept? Who is burden in this situation? Wife or sister?

Let me tell you a mind blowing fact. DOWRY was introduced in Indian society by BRITISHERS, before that there was no concept of dowry (only there was tradition of stree dhan in form of jwellery and ornaments, that a mother gives to her daughter and only women have control on that). No historian mentioned about dowry system in Indian culture. It's britishers who used to take dowry, then introduced that in their colonial world and then indians practiced it as it is mandatory.

    • @sargampareek2774
      @sargampareek2774 2 года назад +5

But even for British people dowry was supposed to be for the bride only and not for her in-laws. In Asian and European culture, dowry was just protection money in case wife is ditched by the husband and the in-laws and husband had NO right over that money.

    • @dOVERanalyst

    1. There is a simple reason behind the age difference, Akshay Kumar is 54 years old in real life, he cannot look like a 30-35 year old man anymore, even though that's exactly what he is in this film. He is easily at least 27 years older than all the actresses playing his sister in the film, but that won't be the age gap in the film.
    2. Marriage takes place as per the age in Indian families. In this film of course, he is a father figure to all the girls because they don't have anyone in the house, so he considers it his responsibility to get them married first, but that is not usually the case. There is no hard and fast rule about sisters getting married first.

Lol I remember when it was my sister's 17th birthday (she's 2 yr younger than me) , when she was blowing the candles, I unknowingly sprayed the spray over her (I am like this from my childhood, I like chaos) and the fire blow up and caught her hair 😂😂😂😂😂, then everyone suddenly started panicking and I grabbed the cake and smashed it over her head to stop the fire, the fire stopped and yes I was schooled, but me , my sister and her friends laughed hysterically for 15 minutes straight because one of my sister's friend's mother was wearing a wig and it came off during the chaos and she didn't even realised it, when she realised about it then she started laughing with us, ohh man, it was the funniest and the scariest day of my life,
There's one more incident, when my sister was in 12th grade, there was a person of age around 23-24, he used to tease the children (whether it is a girl or a boy) so one day he unfortunately bullied my sister's friend by breaking her water bottle which I bought to her (as she lost her water bottle the next day she bought it so she was scared and told me about it then I got her the same new water bottle so her parents didn't notice it) and he passed some harrassing comments and tried to touch her but she's brave enough to kick him in his balls and run away, she came home and told me about this case straight away, then me and my friends reached the place, grabbed him in our car and beat the sh*t out of him by completely breaking his hands and legs (his limbs were fractured to core) and then handed him over to the police, after the incident, no one in the area dared to think or speak bad about a single girl/women

    Btw refrence points (7:40)
Indian culture portraits or makes brothers the second most important person after parents in a girls life , untill they are married . Meaning brothers and parents bith are equally responsible for the marriage of her . If let's say there's untimely death of parents , naturally brother has to take over . Till all of the sisters gets married in a house , brother(s) can't get married . It doesn't matter the fact that the brother is eldest , middle or youngest. Its an old tradition or something doesn't needs to be changed , it's a tradition which makes brothers responsible . It's signifying that a brother other than taking care of parents or his wife also has his sister to take care of . That's why "Rakhi" is worn by every brother on auspicious day of rakshya Bandhan by their sisters in hopes that he's the one who will protect her all the times , hence the name of the movie . (Also in some instances it can considered as an blessing shield given by one loved one to their partners in faith that God will protect them . )

In Indian subcontinent the culture always been that the elder brother takes the responsibility (along side with his father) of getting her sisters married in a good family. It is like helping the parents for finding a good family, good husband, looking after the arrangements for the wedding... As the weddings used to be months long in olden times. So the elder brother was the leading person who used take care from start of the events till the vidayi (departure)
Nowadays as we have faster means of transportation so the baratias (people who come for wedding) don't stay at bride's place. Earlier there were bullock carts, horses, walking as means of transportation so the baratias used to stay at the bride's place; usually the bride and groom were from farther village so going back and forth for different events for the baratias would be difficult.
So the responsibility of taking care of the baratias fall on the parents and the elder brother as he is the elder brother.
Nowadays the work is less because one can book wedding planners; book banquet halls, wedding resort, palace; and the baratias don't stay as long as it was. Work is less but the stress is the same, I guess.

Yes, that's what happens in Indian family. Girls get marry first 90% of the time even if there is an elder son in the family

Girls are normally married off at the age of 22-24, when she passes that age , it becomes very difficult to marry them off. Yhe boys normal age of marriage is between 27-30 but the thing with boys is that even of they moss that atleast upto age of 35 they still can expect a good match, if they are well settled.
Hence Girls are married off early even though they might be younger than their brother lest they miss that marraigeable age.

I didn't realise many parts in India has tradition of marrying daughters before sons. In my area, older sibling mostly gets married first. But I have noticed that in Indian society If a sister lives in the same house after her brothers wedding for too long, she basically becomes a servant especially if shes unemployed

This movie is all about Indian culture of marriage, basically arranged marriage and all the good and bad about it, the dowry and the wedding expenditure, the culture that the brother marries after her sisters marry but only when the age gap between them is very little, if the brother is a lot older than the sister a brother can marry before them.

Its so stupid how people in India want girls in a family to get married first and how getting a girl married is viewed as a responsibility. Getting married shouldn’t be the ultimate goal for everyone. You should only get married if your independent.
