Yeah. That's a bit of a plot hole there. At the time of filming, Vader and Anakin were separate people and Darth Vader did in fact kill Anakin Skywalker. It's also why Obi-Wan refers to him as Darth during their dual on the Death Star. Darth was his name, not a title. Just was watching the clone wars today and the episode where Anakin, obi wan, and Ashoka go to rescue a Jedi master from the citidel and Tarkin and Anakin both showed respect towards each other so it’s a nice backstory
Tarkin had respect for Anakin more so than other Jedi before he was Vador and it was mutual. It only made sense to carry on that respect after he learned he was Vador because of his service to the empire. Tarkin was part of Palpatines close knit circle, he would’ve been one of very few to know who Vador was almost immediately.

Well, we saw how Tarkin and Anakin already respected each other during the clone wars. Tarkin even praising Anakin for the way how he handles things and saying he wished more Jedi would be like him.
That's not completely accurate Darth Vader had no choice because Palpataine, made Tarkin over him after so many of Vader's failures to somehow teach Vader, a lesson and it pissed Vader off sometimes the way Palpataine treated him that's why Vader was always looking, for ways out from underneath Palpataine's thumb not to be redeemed but to rule but that never worked out for him.
I remember someone said Darth Vader wouldn't be so powerful and respected amongst generals of the Empire without Tarkin. And without Vader, Tarkin wouldn't get what he wanted which is the Death Star.
Yes, the reasoning is definitely there but there is an even better reason: Anakin has worked with Tarkin a lot during the clone wars and he knows the guy is competent, furthermore Palpatine prohibiting him to do anything to Tarkin proves that Tarkin was very much still an asset Its only natural Vader at least respected Tarkin as a competent and capable officer with senior authority in the military, after all he has forgiven and respected much less competent lower-ranking officers than Tarkin Key note here: Palpatine always values usefulness Vader always values competence and efficiency Tarkin was all of it
I would have to agree with that. Especially the key notes. Vader hates lack of efficiency and competency. The amount of officers he's killed over lack of competency is pretty high.
